They haven’t figured that out on my unit yet- lots of bags of chips and other stuff everyone reaches in...but maybe they work so close together it doesn’t matter, the bugs travel anyway.
Wow - that's almost never seen any more in our place - Infection control folks come around checking ... especially when outbreaks are occuring. Wrapped stuff only. Challenging at Xmas when some patients/families give the staff boxes of cookies etc. Bad enough to have so many ill and vulnerable people to care for but when staff start sharing bugs & going off sick it creates a huge problem for us.

Totally agree.I usually don’t snack on stuff on the unit and often manage to avoid the bugs. But then- I also don ‘t have kids in the school system anymore to bring bugs home.

Infection control does not seem to apply to the nursing area. Everywhere else they are really sharp, especially about washing hands.

Some informed people (informal, or just information as strange intelligence) say there are more bugs in the home but we are conditioned to them! Consider how you family bugs yah ... some resistance occurs ... some even become deaf and blind to wits ...

Yeah, heard that the average kitchen sink has more and more serious germs than the average toilet.

Is that inclusive? A great sol has to struggle with all that is living ... some don't believe in a greater sol than their private self ...

Just home after a week with my folks in Ont. I was there for their record lows. Fortunately I had a pair of fleece pantts and long underwear packed in case I got a ski in.
Spent the first few days driving as my parents have 2 cars and 1 driveway. Car that would not start was behind car that would start. Finally non-working car was winched back, jumpstrated and driven to have battery replaced. Dad went to drive other car but Mom and I reminded him he's not yet cleared to drive. Dad did menory test and while there are some things he can't do memory is suffiecent for driving, it's the fact that he blacked out that makes driving unsafe.
Mom and I (withoccasional help from my niece) packed up and donated 6 bags of excess sheets, towels and tableclothes, 2 boxes of books and 1 box of mugs. Mom and Dad will be moving within a year to an apartment and everything sorted now will make move easier.
I also cooked a lot.
and shovelled walk and cleared off cars.
I did get 1 ski in.
Mom's sister died Wed. and sad to miss the funeral-this Tues. but home called.
My youngest had his 2nd psych hospitalization-the day after I left and had just been released. He's had a drug change so here's hoping for improvement.

exactly Pinga. Feeling how hard it will be for my cousins to sort their mom's very cluttered house.

Medications are making him "sick" but really just tired. I had him get out of bed at 6pm last night to help unload car. That's part of what I do-I expect him to be up and to help.

Had a good Christmas celebration even though my parents weren't able to come. I had suggested facetiming yesterday with a bit of grumbling as the response. They have done it with my nephew before. I think they were thinking the expectation was for us to feel like we were all together, to have equal interaction. Nope! It was all about them watching the grandkids (and not us paying attention to them, hair unwashed, etc) with the occasional comment from one of us. I thought it would last maybe 15 minutes, I think it ended up being close to an hour.
I ended up with the gift 'winner'. The oldest has been really into ATMs, debit machines, credit cards, etc. for months. I got him a toy cash register. I found out after purchasing he has also developed a love of coins - when Mom has been out without him he runs over to her purse to see if he can get coins from her wallet.
I didn't realize how good this cash register actually was, it has a real functioning calculator, it makes noises as it 'scans' items and also has noises when the plastic card that comes with it is swiped - but even better for him it also works with real cards too.

I knew he was getting an expensive gift - a leap pad. I figured that would be the favourite. That doesn't have the same novelty factor I guess, as he has used other tablets before. He likes it, it gets him to sit still which can be a challenge at times. Getting him to go upstairs for bed is never hard as he loves his bottles and that is the only time he gets them. Today though, he didn't want the bottle yet when it was the usual bed time, he wanted to keep playing with the cash register!

I also found out my Grandma was sent home. I was surprised to hear that as the info I was getting made it sound like she was very sick. Glad to hear she's at home, uncertain about her being sent home without oxygen but hopefully some relatives will have enough time to give that situation enough attention.

Don't you just love being the gift 'winner' with kids? I gave pjs, books and a bubblegum making kit to my grandson; other people gave him drones, remote control toys and other expensive stuff. I might not have been the 'winner', but I loved sitting beside him to enjoy reading the books together. And he adores his pajamas...got to wear them to a friend's on New Year's Eve.

I was the winner this year, too! Our 8 year-old nephew likes building and inventing so I hoped that this would be a good combination of those two interests. I don't like to get Lego "sets" which contain instructions for building just one thing. And then... what do they do with it once it's built?

Anyway, this was the big hit of the day. We informally learned about angles and balance and fulcrums while exercising our creativity. And he kept coming back to it!

I have a grandson's birthday coming up, turning 3, is this suitable? How much is it and where did you buy it?

I got it at Mastermind Toys for about $35, I think.
I don't think that it's unsuitable for a 3 year-old but (for me) it wouldn't be worth the cost for that age group. I knew my nephew would like it because he's already shown an interest in building and creativity and problem solving. The pieces are irregular and force you to find different ways to balance and build with them. At three, I sense that a child would get frustrated and give up if the pieces didn't stack as traditional square/cube blocks do.

But, you know your kid; it might be just the right gift for your little grand!

Mastermind Toys - Resources 72pc Gift Box

Much as I'm not into plugging corporations, I must say that Mastermind has always been a treasure trove of useful, educational, interesting gifts for my kids. I used to go there particularly for cool stocking stuffers, and this was when I had to travel to Toronto to get to one (there's now one here).

I love Mastermind - such helpful staff and great assortment of interesting products - way better than big box stores IMO.
