There needs to be a strong alternative to radical Leftists like Wynne.
That way there will be true diversity of opinion rather than hers which will lead to pain and suffering...diversity based on facts and truths rather than on power and intersectionality with an infinite supply of protected groups who are so weak that all of them always need help.
I fear for our country.
This plague has to stop before it and the violence becomes the norm.

No longer being resident of the Province of Ontario most of my immediate attention, politically, is the mess that NL finds itself in yet again.
Moratorium is being thrown around in the Shrimp industry so get it while you can.
I was amused by Tim Whoisthat's uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I suppose Brown managing to do the same will begin to become boring.
I think Horwath jumped the shark two elections ago. Nobody sitting in the Kingmaker seat should have ever been as colossally unprepared for a campaign as she and the NDP were. Falling on her own sword would have been a benefit to the party even though they also have depth chart weaknesses.
The Ontario Liberals should have been sent to the showers to recollect themselves some-time ago. For the betterment of the province. The only reason it didn't happen is because neither the PCs or the NDPs were able to convince enough voters in enough ridings that they actually represented an alternative. Until that changes nothing much at Queen's Park will.

OK, I've officially heard everything. The Premier of Ontario is a "radical leftist"? I think there's some serious definition-stretching going on here.

Wynne? She's definitely on the left wing of her party but "radical leftist"? Hell, even most modern New Democrats don't merit that label. I suppose if you're American or are a very conservative-leaning Canadian and looking at policies like carbon taxes and the sex ed curriculum, it might seem that way, but those are really moderate left or, in the case of the carbon tax, centrist policies by any reasonable political standard.

While saner heads have prevailed (see story below), the issue of safe zones around abortion clinics has been one of the most blatantly political actions by this government. Introduce a bill that you think the opposition might object to a year before an election, then refuse to fast track your own bill when said opposition not only comes out in support of it but offers to fast track it.
The status of women minister (quoted in the article) pretty much admitted it when she said, ""I think that the leader of the opposition actually has been back and forth on this issue himself with his own track record. Maybe he doesn't want some of those voices in committee to be heard." IOW, making the bill go through committee wasn't about getting reaction to the bill as much as trying to trip up the socon wing of the PCs. Committee hearings on a bill are supposed to be about the bill, not the opposition's politics.
I am all for this bill and am glad it is getting fast track. Too bad the Libs decided to try to use it to try to play wedge politics when it should have been about getting the protections it offers in place as quickly and efficiently as possible. Had a PC government played similar games, they would have been screaming.

My problem right now is not which one NOT to vote for but which one TO vote for. The Libs continue to make me cringe, the PCs are iffy at best (but I'll wait until they release a full platform before I completely rule them out), the NDP seem like the safest bet of the big three for me but I'm not fond of them on some fronts (still too beholden to unions) and Horwath's track record isn't great at this point, even Green have been starting to make me cringe a little (there was homeopathic anti-vax rhetoric starting to creep into the federal Greens language last election).

I'm fed up. I hopefully voted for Kathleen Wynne, liking her focus on tech development and because she was both female and gay (big mistake). I have never been more disappointed in anyone I voted for, but I don't understand the profound hatred she seems to generate. I believe she's an easy target for sexist homophobes, which makes it difficult to have a genuine conversation about what she's doing. Some huge blunders imho. First of all, she put the kybosh on tolls for the Gardiner and DVP (main highways into Toronto). This would have been tooooo sensible and pissed off too many people whose votes in the GTA (who believe there's a "war on cars") that she's trying to get. These are people who would never vote for her anyway. Tolls would have been the answer to huge but necessary infrastructure funding. I also think she dropped the ball with her way of dealing with cannabis legislation, monopolization of the industry with the province basically hamstringing any other proposals that might prove more rational, like working with existing businesses and growers to develop a model that consumers really want...most of them I think. She's out of touch with too many ill-informed advisors and too much fear of losing the next election by doing anything remotely progressive. She now reminds me of an out-of-touch high school principal.

No provincial candidates appeal to me....voting is going to be a "hold your nose" exercise. They all suck. NDP have some appeal but I don't really know who they are anymore. Also have to admit they'll make promises and spend too much trying to please everyone. Conservatives would be fine if they were "progressive" but they are now "regressive". Greens might be my choice next time around, but I guess I'll have to look up who their provincial candidate is...sigh.

Let's not forget that the history of tolls in this province is not a good one. The two toll highways we have (407 and 412) are profit generators for private companies with huge admin fees. Yes, some of that goes back to the government and to maintain the highways but, once again, they are being run for profit and that's a big problem for me. A short trip on 407 without a transponder results in more admin fees than mileage fees and even a transponder comes with an annual fee. I have never seen this happen on a US toll highway and I do not hesitate to use toll highways down there. However, I avoid 407 like the plague unless there's a clear justification for doing so or it's a business trip so that I can expense it.
Given that history, is it any wonder people in the GTA are opposed to more tolls? Personally, if it is done purely on a per km basis with no admin or statement fees and all profits are sunk back into the highways, I have no problem with tolls. However, that is not how our current toll highways are being run and if Wynne wants to get support for more toll highways, she is going to have to make sure that new toll highways are run sanely.

I've been following the colleges strike closely. I think she's created a 'no win' situation for herself. Forcing the teachers back to work is simply going to create an educational chaos. (And I have never before seen an educational system that could function with 30% part-timers.)
I suspect the real problem (which she can't handle) is the massive shift of big wealth into tax havens. The result is that there simply is no money. I'm astonished that Canadians are so meek they have not been rioting in this streets of this massive theft (which the federal government has made possible.)
