How was church today?

'Church' was just great today in my neck of the woods. Headed out to a local park with my partner, an adult kid and partner and the youngest grandude. Played on the climbing equipment, grandude tried out every slide. Eventually we all enjoyed hotdogs and fresh veggies - followed by some of my home made cookies. Grandude decided he has a new favourite - Chocolate, chocolate. Next we headed to the Animal Corner and admired the chickens, ducks and ducklings, rabbits, goats and the peacocks. The male spread his tail for us leaving grandude lost for words - a very rare happenstance!
It didn't rain on us and we didn't get overly cold. The birds sang, the leaves rustled, the dandelions nodded their sunny faces in our direction. A good time for all - better than sitting in church.

So how do they organize that jae? Is the cafe open to other customers during service time? Do they meet in separate section or room at the cafe?

They operate as a cafe and Christian book shop most of the time Carolla, then hold a worship service on Sunday mornings. During service time, anyone is free to come join in the worship service. There is no separate section, it's all one big room, with an open kitchen at one end.

Under the weather so hung around home today. Thought I would catch the livestream of the service from First Metropolitan in Victoria, but the livestream wasn't there today. They have a link to their youtube channel so went there and worshipped with First Met from their service last week. It was a service celebrating the youth in the congregation and had some splendid music. Alec Xu on the grand piano was especially impressive. Glad of the internet so I could be in church on a day when being physically there wasn't an option. :)

Props to you You just never know on your faithfulness. :) Hope you feel better soon.

Props ... a shaft of light for lifting? Could be that Vlad impaler ... depending on the frothy landing as you are bier 'd up!

Ol' ordi open my heart and mind while you're at it so I can en Vi Sion what's going on in the other closed cases ...

Do you know the variants in Sions? Some sighs relapse in silence as a mechanism for Bodleian curios ... when the darkness comes down and we rest ... rest well but not too much ... prepare for the wake in NG! Often apocalyptic if chi's still there ...

Some men would chew a leg off ... why there are so many 3 legged dogs in Churchill ... those colorless bears ... baren down on us as we disappear inside em ... a leg not to stand upon ... like gone in Ahab HEH in splendour?

Then there is the Sun Dais morning perspective when coming off the wagon ... some say it is a supportive vessel ... for one Shanghaied in a bottle ... transparent affair with the winds excluded? Closed Eire ...

Excellent church service today at my friend's Southern Baptist church. I preached on Romans 8:18-23, "Yet There is Hope." Good music too, and pizza for lunch.

That's interesting - I wonder if you would mind sharing your process for making the choice? But briefly - I don't want to derail the thread.

I fell asleep during the sermon today. No comment on the sermon, just on me. Too funny. Wasn't a long sleep, but definitley nodded off. Minister sat down and mentioned it, teasingly, at coffee time.

Haven't done that before.

Have never dozed off, but have certainly fought to stay awake a few times. Imho, on a Sunday morning it's better to be asleep in church than asleep anywhere else.

First, pray. And continue to pray throughout the process of researching, writing, practicing, delivering, and reflecting afterwards.

If I am an adherent or member of the church - get the pulse of what's going on in church life and choose something appropriate to speak into it.

If I'm a visiting preacher - have coffee with the church leader beforehand and ask them what they'd like me to preach on. Sometimes they will already have a series going and I will, of course, accommodate that.

No church today. Church of old family, I guess. My parents were young immigrants, really not sure of their footings at all, Mom was pregnant with a child she lost just before birth. They had a little flat in B____ while they tried to establish themselves and adjust to a very different culture. In the flat underneath was an older woman, who took Mom under her wing. She, in turn, had a daughter and son-in-law about my parents' ages, and they became very fast friends, This couple, Ann (long deceased) and Ron, were as close to 'godparents' as I ever had. Couldn't have children, they were both natural (and actual) teachers, and they shaped my life. Summers at this little cabin in the woods were 'our' summer holidays, both as a child/young woman with my parents and with my kids after I divorced. It was very cool to be there with my son this weekend, but also sad in a way. He is so very old and frail. He was a very tall, very big man in his youth (a true farmer's son - well in excess of 6' and built like a brick shithouse), which is not such an advantage in his old age. He spoke last night of missing Ann, his mate of over 50 years who died 15 years ago now. I think he's moving towards wanting to rejoin her.

I always used to want to nod off when I attended mass with my husband, and one particular priest was preaching . Oh, how I longed to stretch out on a pew and really, really sleep. He was a very nice guy, and had such a soothing, comforting voice. I really think his voice could be marketed to those who are unable to sleep at night. And sometimes sleep might be necessary before engaging in all the thinking and doing that our faith calls us to do.

My Sunday morning was spent at the walk-in clinic. Had a bad reaction to meds and woke up with a whole lot of red spots everywhere. Ha ha, just call me spot! The doctor at the walk-in clinic prescribed 2 new meds to counteract what the first med did to me. Oh well, maybe next week will be able to have fun and fall asleep during a sermon instead of another Sunday like this. :)
