It is ironic that all these deaths are kin killing kin*
Doubly ironic because all of these countries are left-over technology from the time when the world used to be ruled by what buckminster fuller called 'Great Pirates', who created countries as protection for themselves and a source of employees and resources
Triply ironic because we all are kin...some 70,000 years ago a volcano in Lake Toba, Sumatra**, Indonesia, erupted...which caused global climate change, leading to humanity almost being wiped out. All of us here on earth, according to this scientific theory, are descended from a mere 40 to 10,000 breeding pairs.
(which makes me think, perhaps this, in some form, was included in the bibble in some form? adam and eve myth being flung out of paradise to suffer...)
* if only they could be convinced of their kinship, then the killing would lessen, because being kin is sacred. land is sacred. in some cultures, war is sacred -- you aren't considered a man until you do something i would consider horrific to another tribe. etc. check out Scott Atran's book for more grokking
* *any time i come across that name, i always think aboot the Rat, Giant entry in the original Monster's Manual...it was exotic back then, a rat the size of a dog to worry the party with...a fierce illustration as well
