Even a little child could teach you.
If the Bible shows God's nature, then God is a sadistic jerk. Or at least, "sadistic jerk" is part of his personality profile. In the Stars, the earth, the universe, your heart......all given to testify God's hope....
Actually God works through revelation. The Bible can show our nature as well as God's. Sometimes we have to look at ourselves as well as God in order to seek God's understanding and hope for us.
Waterfall ---your quote ------If an interpretation does not lead to a loving God, I believe the interpretation is wrong.
God's word give you all the answers ---your looking for in why God gave Abraham this command ------and your saying that scripture is wrong in what it says just because you don't see the Love in what God ask Abraham to do ---- so your saying that your interpretation weighs more that God's --Wow ----you see no love in what God did with Abraham so you call God a barbaric God -----
Your quote -----Does this offend your "Christian" sensibilities?
Nothing you can says offends me Waterfall ---I am way passed that ------I am a Christ---ian not a Christian -----God knows your heart Waterfall and heard what you call Him ---Don't know if He is Offended by your calling Him barbaric or not ------
You see I have fully mastered this Scripture -----by much practice ---got a lot of practice on the winder café 1 and 2 ----
Luke 10:19 ----
KJ21
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
But this is what God says in His word ------Matthew 15:11 ESV ---11 (A)it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
James 3:10 ----

Out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way [for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts].
So a Person who calls themselves a Christian should want to praise God not call Him barbaric ------ just my view
My observation is that "God" is as thin-skinned as the person who believes in him, making God, once again, whatever you want "God" to be.Personally, I don't feel God is offended if @Waterfall or anyone else calls him barbaric, or wonders if he is barbaric, in an honest attempt to understand him better.

I do not believe God is barbaric, but I believe that the understandings and interpretations of God have led others to believe that He is. eg. believing that God uses a supposed sacrifice to "test" Abraham. If an interpretation does not lead to a loving God, I believe the interpretation is wrong.
Did I say that?so a little child taught your belief ?
Read this again unsafe and Jae......."I do not believe God is barbaric"
The story of Abraham and Isaac has many, many interpretations....not just the one you and Gotquestions have come up with unsafe. Most point to God testing Abraham.....but there are many others. Why? because it is controversial and demands sense being made out of it.

By "demands more sense be made out of it," what you really mean is, "twist it until all the bad stuff is gone."

You lose credibility every time you do this. You can not just take every story that offends an evolved morality, and hack away at it until it fits. People notice.
Do Christians believe that the OT stories point to the resurrection and hope of Jesus? Then how do you believe the story of Abraham and Isaac relates to the story about God and Jesus using your own interpretation of the Abraham story?

So you don't think that those interpreting God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son relates to God sacrificing His own son?and that is not all correct and half the story , that is not all Christians believe , before the OT pointing to the Savior it first teaches what we are in reflection to the Law, the Name of God & His abilities
