upload_2017-2-11_21-42-50.png This is me doing a Vanna White pose to show how high the snow bank is in front of our house. Snow banks all around our house are just as high...Of course, they got that way thanks to the snowblower. But it's still a LOT of snow.

Thanks all for your open hearts and prayers for my friend & her family. Fortuitously (god moment?) I bumped into her at the hospital on Friday & we were able to have a short time together. Broken hearted for sure.

Nancy - what an amazing photo!! that is a LOT of snow!!! Glad you have a good snowblower. We'er getting some snow here today -just the pretty fluffy postcard type - and I think not likely in huge quantities, which is okay with me!

Had a Presbytery workshop Sat morning with people from EDGE - it was good. My presb obtained some grant funding to support many of our churches to do IMNA (Identity Mission Needs Analysis), and community round tables. We also got property scans for every church in the presbytery, and we will soon receive representative data from Environics - so lots going on for people to wrap their heads around.

One important piece I took away from it, was the descriptors of 'problems' - that the current situation facing churches is highly complex (differs from 'complicated') and that too often we rush to action to simple or technical solutions - which of course 'don't work' as we though they might.

There is lots and lots of snow here in Scarborough so I didn't venture out to church this morning.

In my experience, it is relatively easy to broaden our view and look to our churches' neighbouring communities. I have seen teams go out to interview key people in the surrounding community - MPP's, police, school principals and so on. It's not difficult to identify the needs that exist and to increase our awareness of what is around us.

The hard part is to figure out what to do with this information when a community of faith is struggling just to remain viable.

We had a bit of freezing rain overnight (or so it seemed when I got up, there was a skin of ice on the deck and deck table) and some heavy flurries/light squalls around noon (just as we went out for lunch). In the end, though, London pretty much got missed by everything. We feel so left out. :(

:D

That kind of left out I wouldn't mind, Mendella! I drove half an hour up the highway to lead a worship service today. The roads were slushy and the world looked very, very white. Once I got home it started to become blowing snow. I think I'll stay put the rest of the day. The good thing was that drivers were not being too aggressive or crazy on the highway. I can't say that is always the case.

It is like a windy spring day where I am today.
I was out to the car without a coat on, the sun is shining. it is brisk, but, no snow in sight.

An on-line local paper has decided to keep a running tally about how much snow we have.
Snow-to-Date (Feb.11th): 336.8cm (11' 0")
Normal snow to Feb.11: 232.4cm (7' 7")

So, Little M submitted a rather unique application last night. He got an early offer of admission from Carleton University in Ottawa for Computer Science. That was followed by an offer to apply for a program they have set up with Canadian tech company Shopify (they provide hosting and a set of tools for businesses to easily create and manage their online storefronts without needing a lot of technical knowledge or support). Basically, he works for Shopify while registered as a student at Carleton with the company paying tuition and a small salary (to cover living expenses). His work at Shopify includes course material though he still takes some courses on campus, too, as I understand it. And, of course, if he works out well, this could turn into his first career job. At the very least, having Shopify, who are becoming Canada's next tech darling now that Blackberry is on the ropes, on his resume can't hurt and he's someone who will benefit greatly from this kind of experiential learning. I can't say we're totally crazy about him being that far away (it's a 6-7 hour drive) but it's an improvement over his early talk about going out West.

Besides Carleton, he's entertaining offers from two other universities plus there's one he applied to that hasn't decided yet. University application time is an exciting, but rather nerve wracking, time for both students and parents.
