He told me the type of maintenance they do - refridgeration, ironically, considering the rare cold snap - but I don't remember what was on the van. I don't think I would try to find him. If he wanted to he could drop a note for me in my landlord's mailbox I suppose but I think I'd best just leave it as a good memory.

If he had wanted to, he could have asked you for your number. He chose not to. Best just to be thankful for the kindness of a stranger, and move along.

There used to be a missed connections or some name like that in the newspaper for these situations. Not sure what still exists for that kind of thing!
I know the student newspaper had some people using the TLFs (three lines free) for that kind of thing. The TLFs were the most popular section.

I had a fall today too Kimmio - ouch! Rolled my ankle when I stepped on a large stone on a sidewalk - went down hard, but fortunately didn't hit my head. No handsome stranger arrived to escort me home tho! Some scrapes & swollen spots this evening - I'm sure I'll be stiff in the morning. Took some arnica, which I find usually helpful with bumps & bruises.

Went ass-over-teakettle on the icy driveway tonight. Rolled the landing so I'm fine, just a little scary.

Be careful out there. Ontario still has a layer of ice over most of it.

Sheesh. Winter is not being kind. Glad you're ok. I cancelled work today. Snow and freezing rain and drivers, most of whom are not used to winter and don't even have snow tires. Buses sliding. Plus my own fall risk. No thanks. It's supposed to rain and get up to +8 here tomorrow so it'll be mostly fine by the weekend.

ouch chansen!! Glad you're okay. It is a bit stunning when it happens. No ice here, just a wayward stone! And now a sore ankle, skinned knee, swollen elbow, sore shoulder ... not to mention the damaged pride!

Sounds like a good call to stay home today Kimmio. Hopefully your employer was understanding.

I rarely fall. Period. If I go down, it's bad out there. Or I've been drinking. Not the case today. Honest.

ah Chansen,
I seldom fall as well. But when I do it's spectacular.

4 of us here on WC2 have all recently tumbles on the ice.

I did fall a couple of weekends ago, but I really was drinking that night, so it doesn't count.

When I picked my daughter up from school today the parents were telling their kids to get off the ice. I was telling my daughter to get on the ice and play with movement and figure it out. It's a skill. When I fell today, both feet went up. I got one foot down in time, but it slipped as well. I got one hand down to break my fall a little (don't put too much weight on the landing hand or you can break something), and initiated a bit of a roll to distribute the impact. Knowing how ice and traction works is really important if you live in Canada, and everyone is sooo worried about their little snowflakes falling. The time to fall and figure it out is when you're a kid. Point to frozen puddles and tell them to slide around and have fun. if you want to fall successfully, you have to learn how.

Yeesh. Vibes to all those nursing bumps, bruises, and so on. We are still relatively ice free here in the balmy Southwest of Ontario so my hide is, so far, intact. Though twisting my ankle on a rock as @Carolla describes used to be a bit of a regular event with me, but my ankles seem to have toughened up with time. I haven't done it in quite a while.

These days, it's my back that seems to be my vulnerable spot. The three hour drive back from Blue Mountain Saturday just about did me in. Our new car will have a 12 way driver seat with adjustable lumbar support so maybe the next big drive (Ottawa in March) will be better. At least Little M can take the wheel now so we have three drivers, cutting down on my actual time driving.

I've narrowly escaped the same fate, having almost gone ass over teakettle in my own driveway 3 times today. After time #3, daughter went out and used a whole bucket of wood ashes on the driveway...

My dog walker friend was not so lucky. He called to cancel his walk tomorrow on two grounds: the on-going danger (we keep on getting little skiffs of snow that make the trouble worse by hardening the ice and disguising it), and the fact that his wife fell today outside and broke her wrist and he'll be caregiver and chief cook and bottlewasher for a little while.

Yeah, they were. I told them I had fallen last night and didn't want to risk it again. Good thing because by this afternoon police were recommending people stay home unless it's an emergency. I may have ended up stranded at work. The other night - Monday - buses shut down early. Not sure where people were supposed to go! It was bad but not 'that' bad compared to most places east of here! Really, I can see Ontarians laughing at our freak out over a couple of real snow days. It's just that the city crews aren't as prepared and people don't know how/ aren't prepared to drive in it here.

Carolla I misread - it wasn't your ankle you hurt but the spots you landed on, most? Still, ouch! I can relate!

We don't have enough big frozen puddles, generally, to learn on. It's rare. I suppose kids here could learn ice safety at an indoor skating rink.

In my experience with black ice I go down too quickly to attempt to catch my fall or think about what to do. I'm down before I even realize what happened. Last night that happened literally in the middle of what is normally - but less so last night - a busy road, where cars tend to speed. I was really fortunate I didn't fall in a road lane or it could've been a lot worse.

My car (and I) slid into the back of a parked car on my street today. Even in southern Alberta - it's slick out there!
