She had a hamburger press at one point.

Mine, too. Mrs. M and I had one at one point (probably around here somewhere) but kind of got lazy once we discovered that PC had frozen 100% beef, no filler burgers. We don't eat burgers much now anyway.

We did sometimes go out for a special occasion brunch or lunch to The Knotty Pine restaurant - at the bottom of the big hill in Preston. I bet some of you remember that spot.

Me and my bestie at the time used to tease each other a call one another a "Naughty Pine". It was a local legend. Was it the French Onion Soup?

We never went. Though we had leftovers some time from it

Dad went out for work lunches. Fair bit.
He would bring home leftovers.

Oh yeah. My family ate there from time to time, often after some event like a graduation or similar. Had some good meals there.

I don't recall having what we think of as 'a burger' until coming to Canada. Friends convinced me to buy a UK version called a wimpy (the place that sold them was called the Wimpy Bar!), I was horrified by the price (working poor) and unimpressed by the wimpy.

Mostly I avoided burgers as they didn't thrill me (I don't like most sauces and loathe vinegar). Nowadays hubby makes yummy burgers - and I supply home made buns for them - suits us!

I have not had any interest in McDonald's since I was a teen and it was new and yuck, compared to my family's charcoal grilled burger. And real "chips".

However, good place to meet boys, and drink coke/coffee, so, okay, but that was more geographical, anyway. The early "mass market meal" I remember was Ponderosa, and in fact, I had a brief career there. What actually tenderized those 'steaks' I was not quite sure.

That era saw these things become actually occasionally affordable for single parent families like ours and made a real difference. "Steak" at Ponderosa was a big deal but accessible. BiWay was also a game changer around the same time, and I happily bought in. Same thing. Things like coffee makers came within reach. No wonder that economic "miracle' occurred. Created much of our current mess, didn't it.

I have been known to eat there, but not burgers. For fast food burgers, the new specialty places like Five Guys are better. Among mainstream fast food, Harvey's has the best burgers IMHO. But I rarely eat fast food burgers. As you say, they just don't live up to doing them yourself.

McD's has increased their burger quality. Still not the best of the fast food, but much better options compared to what it used to be like. Their smoothies are way better than Timmies.

OTOH, when you've been driving for hours, it's cold, you've set up a tent in the rain, it's almost dark, and the closest spot is a McD's, then two big macs with a large fries and a large green tea and an extra cup to split and add a portion of rum to, is friggin' heaven.

For burgers my preferences are Wendy's, or A&W. My first choice for fast food, though, would be Subway.

Carl's jr. Is my favourite followed by Harveys. Wendy's has changed too much I feel like they used to be better although still fairly good. They had really good breadsticks years ago. I used to get extras back then the extra calories were ok.

When you are driving a known chain gives at least some predictability. And speed. I love the fact that in the USA the interstate highways tell you what gas stations and hotels and restaurants are coming up. Very helpful for planning

We occasionally as a kid I London would have a family treat at A and W. you ordered from a speaker beside the car and the dinner was delivered I a tray that clipped to your window. Seemed like such fun whe I was a kid

and my parents all their lives were big Swiss chalet fans. In fact when my dad died the funeral Parlour was beside the one they went to. We made a reservation for the 17 of us between viewings. When we entered with my mom, all the wait staff came over and hugged her. It was very touching

Maas Aadhar resembles a viper? Slick as a cold bier on the hows ... and thus questionable ..
