Your childhood meals

We used to stop at A&W in Truro on our way to Fredericton to visit parents. Our kids liked it almost as much as our black Lab ... who enjoyed a palin burger.

The attendant at the window was always astounded at how quickly the plain burger disappeared ... right before their eyes ... Lab didn't get any Rootbeer for wash ... it just went down!

my parents all their lives were big Swiss chalet fans

Mine, too. We used to eat there in Toronto when we visited Grandad (one of the original ones was near their place). Later, when one opened in KW, we would go there for Mom's birthday (which happened to be New Year's Eve) and Mother's Day, sometimes other occasions.

Who was the cook in your childhood home?

Did you have a favourite meal?

Was it seasonal?

Is there a memory that sticks in your head? A smell?
Hallo Past Pinga!!!
Glad 2 see you returned.
Mua ha ha.

The cook in my childhood home was G'akagak, who appeared in our cupboard on gloaming riding their canvas canoe. They said they were of the 'lights and was a Integrity Comfort Inspector or some such...ahh, the memories...stuffed inuit fingers...jacques shellac hardtack...tea made from Gnop Keh tears...

Ahem

Lots o favourite meals lots of different cooks (sorry 'gak)

In BC interior my dad had huge farm family. I fondly remember dadz momz choccy cake and the feeding frenzy over a huge pot of HOMEMADE mac n tomato n cheeze and her homemade bread.

On the Left Coast Dutch Cake with cinnamon and sugar baked into a crust (my fav parts were corners). Cheeze biscuits (they rarely survived the night). Mashed taters with sour cream and green onions and melted cheddar. Bundt Cake choccy and white. Homemade bread.

A memory: being in Eastern Canada. Very young. Staying behind at camp while parents go and get something. I burn my finger. Something crashes through the woods!!!

A man gives me some coke and ice and takes me to his camp and waits with me. Turns out he was a Catholic Priest!!!

Fond smells: baked bread. Farts in my grandparents home permanently.

Methane O' logist?

My mother always cooked when I was a child. And she is good at it (now she likes cooking for grandchildren). But there were days (mostly Sundays) when my father cooked in the morning. I remember that wonderful smell of pancakes or omelet.
Also, my grandmother baked awesome pies with apples, plums, apricots. Yummy! I often spent my holidays with her.

@NickBie - My grandma used to always make waffles for me when I stayed at their farm - special treat. She would put the waffle iron & supplies on her tea wagon, wheel it to the dining room table & make the waffles right there - so amazing to me as a child!
