They are just words @ChemGal ... they do not belong to anyone ... you call it stealing ... I call it sharing.
actually, attribution, is practical agape -- with attribution, you show that you care for the writer and do what they want you to do instead of your own selfish wants -- i know you get miffed when gov'ts and orgs tell you what to do and think
its also polite
and helps in your communication -- your readers might want to check out for themselves the bits that you quote
and its also part of the agreement you made when you joined this board -- there are standards here, social norms that we all agree to when we make an account
and it really, i think, is laziness on your part to just cut n paste someone else's work
(i do hope you can take the previous without becoming too defensive for an extended period of time...)
i recall the time an acquaintance of mine was invited by a Chinese SF mag to a talk.,.so he visited, gave the talk, and they asked for a story...he gave them one and they were going to publish it; during the stage where he and they were working out the details (payment, copyright, etc etc), they said they expected it for free and to hold the copyright...good thing he was able to convince them to cancel the publication of his story
too bad you missed me on WC: Original Recipie -- I was riffing on being an Open Source Being and generally allowed anyone to think anything of me.
