I am increasingly thinking that the biggest risk right now would be not war but Trump giving in to his admiration for iron-fisted authoritarians and aligning with Xi and Putin, giving us a powerful 3-way "Axis of Evil" as a previous American president termed a much smaller, less dangerous alignment.

I think there's a part of all humans that feels more secure knowing someone is in charge. If you think about it, even the democratic West has a history of lionizing "strong leaders" like Churchill over more democratic, egalitarian ones. And in a crisis like the UK faced at the start WWII, having a "buck stops here" leader has advantages over one who is constantly consulting and seeking consensus. Things can happen quickly in response to sudden changes and events. You can't spend weeks debating and voting on motions when an invasion is underway. But in a relatively peaceful world (note the relatively), there's no need for that kind of approach. Trump is manufacturing crises and then mounting inappropriate responses that are causing crises of their own.

But in these times, people who live on stirring up conflict need to be called out. I am sorry if they do that because of personal problems , but the why doesn’t really matter- fact is, that because of the internet and the sheer amount of misinformation, their negative influence reaches too far to be just letting it stand alone.
If she was just a miserable neighbour who talks to other neighbours to make them miserable , I wouldn’t care.
Declaring the world to be peace and love doesn’t make it so ( in German, we say “Joy, peace and pancakes”- as the wish of people who want to ignore the actual state of a situation).
As we see south of the border, times require people to take a stand. People spreading lies have to be corrected.

Like for me, a big reason why I am the way I am besides it is my character is I find this world insanely complex. I feel if anyone knows what is really going on I am like really? How the hell do you do that? lol
