What are you watching these days?

We watched a few episodes of John Oliver's Last Week Tonight. Big guy's hearing has difficulty with John's accent. I think we have to get closed captioning involved in our TV watching life.

I watch very little as with much of physical reality, it is a dark as lord Jims' night of soul ... some say while in there it got heated and sweaty ... sauna-like?

I lean towards intellectual matter ... the alternate dark stuff ... some can see neither side of that dividing line!

I wonder if it will pass ?

I've started watching The Big C on Netflix.
The big C is cancer and it focuses on a married woman and her husband and son and how they cope with her stage 4 melanoma that will eventually take her life. The first season shows her trying to cope in unhealthy ways such as buying a new red mustang after cashing in her 401K, having affairs and taking a very long time to even tell her husband about her cancer, who she has asked to separate and to go live with his mother for awhile as she reassess her life...her son is also kept in the dark about the diagnosis.
Without knowing about what's going on with their wife and mother, it leaves her family stymied without a full explanation.
That being said, it's a very humorous show. (who knew cancer could be humourous but still pack a punch) While it's often over the top with how she reacts to her cancer, it certainly so far, shows how everyone is affected by a diagnosis of cancer.
It's not for everyone, but right now we are both watching it and laughing and being reflective.

"The Assembly" - on CBC wherein a group of neurodivergent individuals are free to ask the episode guest (often a celebrity) any questions that are on their mind. I've taped a few episodes of this and listened while knitting.

Along a similar line - "You Can't Ask That" - Canadian version on AMI (and possibly on youtube) - The documentary series that confronts prejudices and breaks down societal taboos about disability in an authentic and relatable way. Respondents are all living with specific issues and reply from their own lived experience to questions on cards.

I"m not familiar with Mix Tape - might have to give it a look. Thanks Jayne.

The Big C on Netflix. Very poignant story and some over the top humor. We are enjoying it.
I actually stopped watching the big C in the middle, because some of it was very over the top, like you said.....I had to give it a rest for a few days....but we went back to it....my partner was laughing and crying all through it. I'm glad we continued watching, because overall it touched on alot of topics for everyone involved in a crazy, funny and sensitive way.

I have, over this year, amassed an impressive private playlist of concerts on YouTube. Some legal, some more dubious and a few have been taken down. Mostly metal bands/artists, but not all. Been watching one of them over the past couple days as I exercised, After Forever at Pinkpop 2004. After Forever is a now-defunct Dutch band (the members have all gone on to other bands or related careers) and Pinkpop is a huge Dutch festival that covers a range of pop and rock music.

Last night we watched One Life on Netflix. Wonderful experience. If you haven't watched it I suggest you do. It is based on the very real WW2 Kindertransports that got children to safety in the UK.. It deals with the rescues from Prague, but children, mostly Jewish, were gathered from several other countries..

We are watching Younger on Netflix and enjoying it. The tale is a little far-fetched but it is entertaining and it manages to be thought-provoking as well. A fun watch.

Most recently watched 'Douglas is Cancelled' (short series) on BritBox. Some interesting characters & few twists. Also the movie 'Swimming with Men' - movie- on BritBox.

Saw 'Train Dreams' - movie - recently too. Excellent.

And 'Coronation Girls' documentary - available free on TVO website - fascinating bit of Canadian history I had no idea about. Highly recommend it.
