I’m worried about bigger things. I don’t really care about this...it seems petty and just a way for the right to go after Trudeau, who is trying to manage in unprecedented times. Harper probably would’ve given the same amount to the military. I just read that our last arctic ice shelf broke in half on July 30-31st.

The way he went about it was probably not okay. The motivation for doing it was probably okay.
 
One should go after everything ... assertion demands it so as to overcome nothing ... an ethereal concept!

Nothing is hard to maintain ... like absolute zero ... thoughts creep into that space ... and there may be a splash!
 
I am very concerned about it. The 1 billion is not a huge amount, given the amount of money spent already. And kids have lots of options to get some of the relief money. My friends with university age kids are all getting financial help

this was unnecessary. If you want to help the non profit sector, and they desperately need help, give them money.
this was Trudeau hubris at its most obvious. He feels like king. He doles out money from his front porch without any oversight. Oddly we never even saw the finance minister with all these handouts. Trudeau was keeping all the lime light in himself

he chose to give money to his favorite charity. A charity that seems to be debatable about both what it does, how it raises money, how it gives money, how it passes money back and forth, the opacity of its finances, the entire thing is debatable

the more you read about it the more questions you get. more Ponzi scheme than charity

luckily for those of us who do care about this, many Canadians care deeply. Trudeaus popularity has sunk in this. He is now barely better than the conservatives who don’t even have a leader

i am sure he will rebound when an election is called. He , like Trump, is a wonderful campaigner. He loves a crowd. and They love him. He is charismatic, photogenic, charming

just not very good at the job of running the country

Trickle down economics is a Ponzi scheme. I'll go with you that far.

Capitalism is not. Capitalism is not "trickle down economics" and there are many who support the existence of capitalism who do not buy into trickle down.

Capitalism is selling what you produce to get money to buy what other's produce. Pure and simple. When you make more than you spend, you turn a profit and can use that to expand your business, create new products, or reward those who invested in your ideas.

The problem with modern capitalism is that the last item has come to dominate. People aren't focussed on making a product, but on making dividends from someone else's product. They reward companies for paying dividends, not for innovating or creating a healthy work environment. But that's a problem with how we are practicing capitalism, not capitalism itself.

Trickle down? It can happen in a capitalist society (profitable employers hire more people, reducing unemployment and by extension poverty) but you cannot build a society based on the assumption that "trickle down" will provide for everyone. It simply doesn't work that way. That's why we have both capitalism and a social safety net in Canada. It is an acknowledgement that you cannot rely entirely on the free market to generate enough jobs to keep everyone housed, fed, and healthy so you need some kind of public system to pick up the slack.

Then regather extra profits without end ... thus explosions of excess somewhere other than in the common sense!
 
But you (say Tim Cook) don't produce it. All the people who work for you produce it. And not only can those who actually physically produce your product or help to physically get it out to market, not afford what others produce (healthy food, homes) but they can't afford in many instances to buy what they produce.
 
I don't have a problem with inventors getting paid a decent sum for inventing a good idea to make a business out of. I do have a problem with them owning the means of production of that idea. That's big business feudalism, and turns out to be a lot like a ponzi scheme. Extra ditto for lucrative companies who "own" and sell natural resources. In many cases on other people's land who once managed it themselves, now working for the companies who exploit them for a pittance and make them buy back what they produced on the land the company occupies. This is happening with our food supply.

I think I'm thinking of a pyramid scheme. Capitalism seems like the worst of all the schemes put together. When 26 people own as much wealth as 50% of the world's population - the capitalist system is a fraud.

I think just about anyone would be able to see potential trouble and avoid it better than Trudeau

as his former ethics commissioner said, he has a blind spot

he has had such a life of privilege that he just doesn’t see things the way the rest of us do

what I find worrying about this WE issue is that he doesn’t see it. In the huge amount of money spent it is a drop in the bucket. And yet, here we are.

as for WE, it seems less like a charity than any charity I have ever read about. I agree with others who think it should be audited, assets sold, money dispersed to actual charities.
