Are deficits weakly connected to tax cuts for the advantaged ... obfuscated by the need to make war on the common enemy ... demo graphics as the image forms ... gestalt?

Remember the demos are an alter threat to the well positioned to collect common wealth! It is a gross beatitude ... about the great rest! Midnight Son ET is ... sometimes a lonely cacti flowering ... with thorns ... La Uri? Psssst' Đ! In another tradition that's "chi" dead and gone ... flame out?

Shadowy hue prevails ... as doubt extends ...

I think just about anyone would be able to see potential trouble and avoid it better than Trudeau

as his former ethics commissioner said, he has a blind spot

he has had such a life of privilege that he just doesn’t see things the way the rest of us do

what I find worrying about this WE issue is that he doesn’t see it. In the huge amount of money spent it is a drop in the bucket. And yet, here we are.

as for WE, it seems less like a charity than any charity I have ever read about. I agree with others who think it should be audited, assets sold, money dispersed to actual charities.
Sure, we should audit every charity in Canada.....not just the one "Trudeau likes" right? Is the United Church of Canada including Kairos still being audited? That audit began in 2013 and is still ongoing from what the following article states......
How would anyone know, including Trudeau, what is going on with most charities without an audit?

The CRA audits 800 to 900 charities a year....that's 1% of all registered charities.

Well our church is audited annually. The small charity I work with is audited annually and submits results to CRA, the charity I was involved with at a local school was audited annually All paid for by the charity.

so I assume are most. Big public charities like cancer and heart and stroke are audited and publish reports

the CRA audits organizations and individuals based on some sort of criteria. It is a pain to be audited by them. Hubby was once, so in our collective 80 plus years of filing taxes we got hit once

not Sure what your point to my comment was. My comment was that virtually anyone would see their conflict issues and steer clear of them

if you were Trudeau or Morneau would you not have steered clear of this debacle?

Problem is, that it's not at all apparent that the Conservatives aren't equally in bed with this particular charity. You've seen the nice picture of Andrew when he was House Speaker posing with the WE executive. I've heard tell of a select celebratory dinner (an anniversary date, or something) hosted by Harper at 24 Sussex for a select group of WE people.

It appears to be a charity that wealthy people from both of the 'natural' ruling parties in Canada are quite fond of.

I'd like to have seen Jagmeet Singh weather this pandemic challenge. I rather suspect he would have done better than either Liberal or Conservatives. Despite my fondness for the Greens, they really are politically inexperienced in many ways and probably wouldn't have done terribly well, although they'd at least be pouring mountains of money on grassroots "Green"-type groups.

Does political inexperience deter the greatest of powerful leaders?

I mean "really inexperienced" right from the bottom up. In the "natural" NDP, at least you've got a substantial core of members who have probably served in unions, etc., at least giving them some grass roots political type experience.

Back in 2017 the Liberal government stopped the audits that the Conservative gov't (Harper) had put in place five years before that mostly focused on charities because of their political affiliation, starting with environmental charity groups that criticized federal energy and pipeline policies....it had become a political harassment of charities. Not sure, but wasn't also Kairos in support of Palestinians and boycotting Israeli products within the United Church denominations? Were they audited because the Conservative gov't was more sympathetic to Israeli's position of continued harassment of Palestinians? I don't know, but seems suspicious.
So I guess my point is, why not focus on WE being audited rather than the PM's decision to use We? Should the Prime Minister demand an audit for every charity that may be used to distribute funds? Or perhaps choose one that has already been audited?
Or is this just another way to use charities in order to focus attention on the "bad Prime Minister" in order to gain a political agenda for the next election?

What this scandal is focusing in is the decision making of the PMO. The ethical responsibility of the PM. He can have as many favorite charities as he wants. But he cannot dole out government money to them

the entire program was poorly thought out. Why is that. Did no one in all the people who looked at it not stop and question it. If not. Then why not. Was it because everyone knew he had his pet chairity

ethics in government is important. trust is important

He just doled out billions of dollars to those who lost jobs during COVID......is there an investigation going on?
WE didn't receive any money, it was stopped.

WE actually did receive half the money. On May 8 before it was approved by cabinet. Not sure how that ethical issue gets resolved

and they are paying it back. it their various statements say things like we are working with the government to return payment. Cripes. Write a cheque!

i agree hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent. No question they needed to push money out the door. Will it have all been done correctly or evenly or to the best use? That will be something they will have to justify for sure To parliament when it ever restarts.
but this one little hand out is very wrong. They admit it is wrong. They admit they should have not participated in the discussion

and in the meantime because of his hubris, it Fell apart

if you think it was a good idea then you should be angry he wrecked it
if you think it was a bad idea then you should be angry it got as far as it did

I just don't see any difference between the behaviour of Liberals and Conservatives in Canada. They appear equally venial, and largely in support of the monied class to me, generally.

One of them has been infiltrated by apocalyptic evangelicals trying to steer the ship, the other hasn’t. That’s the biggest difference. One that non evangelical “moderate” conservatives ignore at everyone’s peril because they want to protect their money. And moderate conservatives and liberals - both are neoliberal - keep everybody stuck in a supposed centre that is actually more extreme than it once was. Think about how high taxes were for the wealthy in the 60s.

f***. And if this isn't the most unwoke statement ever. Tweedledum is better than Tweedledee.
Okay. Well it’s too bad we weren’t awake before 2006.

One set of fascists is bent on the end of the world so the messiah can come - and a good portion feel they are already forgiven, so they can be as greedy and corrupt as they want to - this world doesn’t matter to them. The other pretends to care about social justice as long as they can still worship their money. This world only matters for as long as they live in it. The unwoke didn’t notice this and took us all sleepwalking into today.

I feel like one party leaves an opening for something better in “this” world because they at least have to account for pretending to care about social justice. The other one just takes us to a very bleak future on earth.

Oh Lord free me from the bonds of the earth, mire and dirt ... that which we learn from as it hurdles thro' space ... MIR? Missal ...

So apparently thousands of pages of info about WE are now inthe hands of lawyers to redact.

one point brought up in the weekend papers was trudeaus assertion that he pushed back on the idea and took it off the agenda. Asked for more due dilegence

it was noted that no other person from the civil service reported this. And seeing as they were the ones supposedly asked to re think it, you might have thought they would testify to that idea

if the papers end up severely redacted, it won’t look too much like The open transparent government we were promised

also reported today , on a different topic, is thatTelfords husband, is a senior VP inthe firm that is handing the mortgage relief. Questions ar being raised why it isn’t simply being handled by the government Assertions that Telford has a screen so she is unaware of this issue with her husbands company. But that isn’t stopping questions and requests for documentation
