i have trouble with those
due 2 human nature and the profit motive: they want to make the most money so I'm guessing they won't b motivated to actually help their convicts...much like Max Security Prisons aren't made at all for any convict to have any chance of bettering themselves (thanks to Sam Harris for this notion...his ideas on lack of free will have interesting beneficial consequences in the real world according to him)

Another possible reason or influence is the American religious need to punish? that any comfort is seen as not punishing enough?

but these would b guesses on my part

Anything for the Monis ... if de Mona 's in the picture ... profound imagery ... the Higginsonian participle? Waggles my spatial domain ... causing ripples ... disturbances of non consequence ... as they are going nowhere? Could be the stalled motivator of emotional concepts about Mona's Lease ... ah!

Tis all myth ... insubstantial thing in itself that is beyond us as mortally stuck ... thus rivers of Stix ... the flow of the shafted ... tis normal in the game of life ... thus the consequence of pass AD (translated; pass-over). Then they were absent as gone with the winds ... shifty sans ... as stale the were ode-rus't ... transcendent irony?

I read Brin's post. Thought it was a very good and interesting analysis of American history and American politics showing how the US Civil War started long before 1861 and still continues, with the southern or confederate mindset gaining more and more influence.

I might quibble with Brin on a few points, but overall I think it's an excellent piece. Thanks for finding it and posting it.

and i notice in mediasphere civil war being mentioned more
hopefully the confederates will b contained again
 
They stay contained by not allowing neo-Nazis to incite hate against minorities at dumb right wing rallies, or be supported by pseudo-intellectual right wing web-celebrity cabal subtlety condoning sexist and bigoted drivel.
