So...how's free hate speech working out?I am very well aware of the code of ethics. I do not think what you are suggesting is the way to promote a safe world.
This. That is false logic. You are taking a huge leap with this one. Black and white thinking/arguing does not help your case or argument. There are far better ways to stand up to racism and misogyny. It is very possible to use critical thinking and to stand up to oppression without bubble wrap.
No. But I looked up to those who taught me, who were - and I feel disappointed in what you've been saying lately. And we were taught to adhere to the SW code of ethics as certified Social Service Workers even if we cannot be RSW's - and I believed in its value. What are you doing to find common ground @Kimmio ?
As for the suggestion that I am not a proper social worker, remember that a significant part of promoting justice and peace is empowering people. Focusing only on safe spaces disempowers sometimes.
Are you an RSW now?
So...how's free hate speech working out?
I feel disappointed in what you've been saying lately.

I have no intention of reporting you to anybody. I'm just pointing out that I value the profession of SW - I think it's probably the most valuable yet underrated profession in society. It's not just a profession it's a lifestyle and a calling that takes a lot of resilience (which I lost somewhere). And I always felt that - with every social worker I met - if you can't trust a SW to stand up for what is just, and if you can't trust a SW to help you feel safer, to recognize bullying and marginalization, and the effects of abuse, and have your back, you can't trust anyone. If you're feeling disempowered by a social worker - something's wrong.By all means, do report me to the college.
And if you adhere to the code of ethics you will know that empowering people is a significant part of practice. Just focusing on "safety" and taking a victim stance is very disempowering.
The Russian invaded Afghanistan. The U.S. used that as a lever against Russia. It sent CIA operatives to help the Afghanistan rebels - the ones who are now the Taliban. It armed them, paid them, and trained them in terrorist methods. In short, the U.S. created the Taliban armies that they are now fighting in Afghanistan.
I worked against the Russians who pulled out. And it has also worked against the U.S. which has tried to push in.
In Canadian news, there was a tornado in the city of Lachute just north of Montreal. I know the area well. I summer cottaged there most of my life. And I've never heard of a tornado in any part of Quebec in all of history.
He is used to getting his own way. He feels entitled to break rules and loyalty is the most important thing to him. He seems to harbour some decidedly bigoted beliefs that resonated with racist organizations and people, and he is loyal to them, and they to him. These are the scared people I was talking about. They alone did not get him elected, but they sure as hell put him over the top. The rest you can hang on the Democrats, who didn't talk about what they would do, so much as how bad Trump was. They didn't need to point that out. The ran a bad campaign. Most thought it wouldn't matter. It did.Who understand's Trump's perspective. How is it even possible?
I try to leave it alone, but here, you're mostly on the side I'm on, and your help is killing me.And I'm convinced some people here have made it a sport to oppose me - instead of finding common ground. Last week I was being told I support the alt right (which should be denounced and I fully agree they should be denounced) by saying there's a violent faction on the far left. Today I'm being told I have to be more understanding of racists. If I say the sky is blue - people will argue it's pink. If I say it's pink - people will argue it's blue. Before even looking out the window. And - there will never be common ground with you. You have something to do with making that a "sport" and part of WC2 culture. You enjoy demeaning me and a few others. I think you're a troll.
What do you mean by your comment about safe spaces and bubble wrap. Do you mean that hate speech should be tolerated so we're not called snowflakes? That's how I interpreted it. Especially after you agreed with Bette that "you can't just ban s**t".Excuse me????? What on earth does this mean? Because I do not follow your twisted logic fully I support hate speech. Have I got that right? I do hope you are more than just a keyboard warrior with a few SW courses under your belt.
You can tell me the sky is blue, and I might say it's more grey today. You will then tell me that I must be blind and I'm anti-blue. In your second post, I'll be called a greyist. It will descend from there. I'll consider bouncing my head off a block wall.
What do you mean by your comment about safe spaces and bubble wrap. Do you mean that hate speech should be tolerated so we're not called snowflakes?
None of them shied away from naming misogyny and racism
I agree. But I don't have the same qualms you have about naming people like Donald Trump and David Duke misogynists and racists. Nor the neo-nazis. I don't think they feel any need to change. And they're not really insulted by it. Especially the KKK and neo-nazis. And those who are blatant misogynists. They don't care if they are called that. Only the most sensitive of "snowflakes" would be offended by somebody calling a racist a racist - if it's indeed true. It's like you're feeling insulted on their behalf when they couldn't care less or else they wouldn't belong to those groups.Misogynist and racist are labels.
Misogyny and racism are behaviours.
Is that clear enough for you?
