We now know you don't have to be qualified to be president of the USA, so it could be anybody really.

Has more political experience than Donald Trump.

True. But the U.S. still has to try to survive the next 4 years without falling apart, regardless. If all of these things impeded his campaign he would not be in. He is. And I think he's going to flip to the "other side" -simply for his own need to be popular (this president stuff is for the birds, he'd rather be golfing and cavorting with socialites) - and Americans just will be a bit happier if they see a more reasonable tone and policies for a few years - until the next circus.
The idea that Trump will abandon his Christian, bigoted and environmentally unconscious base is hilarious. They got him there.

In theory I agree with @Kimmio that he could flip, for exactly the reason she stated. He has no personal convictions or ideology. He loves the campaign, loves being the centre of attention, loves the cheers of the crowds. But in practical terms, I don't think he can switch too much, because if he did he'd lose a significant part of his core and he wouldn't get credit from those who oppose him now. I agree with @chansen that he has to stay the course he's set, whether he really likes it or not.

I suspect that he doesn't much like governing because he can't necessarily get his way easily. As the head of a family owned business he could basically do whatever he wanted. He spoke a word and it was law in the Trump Organization. I think that's why he likes Executive Orders so much - issuing them gives him the sense that he's back running his business. Except that he has courts and Congress and opposition parties and media getting in the way constantly. I suspect that it must be frustrating to him. I still have this nagging feeling within me that he really didn't want to win. He wanted to run for president, but not actually be the president.

If I were looking at this in a really machiavellian way I'd point to his campaign as evidence of that. To me he just kept deliberately getting more and more outrageous, almost as if he was inviting - even begging - people not to vote for him, but the more outrageous he got the more people jumped on board with him, and eventually there was no way out for him.

It doesn't matter what the U.S. does at this point. It has been almost constantly at war since 1945. It has killed some 20 million people. It has imposed dictators to help it loot countries. It has fostered racial hatreds and fears in the U.S. It was doing that when Trump was a little boy. It has been depriving its own people of services that a state should provide - Reagan was a specialist at that.
Trump is pretty awful. But he's not the cause.

I think we know that Trump isn't the cause, but where has the hope gone for the cure? No one even seems to want that.

The hope is with younger demographics. The Republicans are racing to dumb down schools and evangelize to them to make them more like their parents and grandparents.

And this is by no mears a complete list. Imagine if Obama had done half of this, what the Republicans would do.

Imagine too if H Clinton had done half of this, or had behaved as he did during the election. Would she or any woman make as far as the president has?

Ha, you only need to keep the younger demographic addicted to social media to dumb them down.

Which begs the question, "are leaders created in our own image?" Hmmmm, maybe Canadians should reflect on our own choices if that's the case.

Social media connects people. It gets them writing more. It allows ideas to flow. It allows bad ideas to flow, but it also allows bad ideas to be debunked faster. It works both ways.
Oh sure, in depth one liners and selfies.....riiiiiight!

There have always been mindless pursuits. But social media, as a whole, is not worse than anything that came before it. And in many ways, is much better.

They're pushing Christianity as much as they can. Betsy DeVos openly wants to "advance God's kingdom."

As much as there is to hang on Republicans in this mess for years to come, this election could also haunt all of American Christianity as well if the kids don't come around and believe like they're supposed to.

Even in Canada, our kids have a front row seat to this show. Christianity is already rejected by almost half of millennials. How will Christianity be viewed after 4 years of Trump. And if not Trump, would Pence make Christianity look any better?

The election of Trump was a last gasp effort by the Christian right to push a Christian agenda. Let's see what happens.

It could be that the pendulum has swung as far as ridiculously left as possible and now it will go the other way until it does on the other end. History does that.

The U.S. was never a far left country. The Democrats are right wing, and the Republicans are more right wing. For a left-wing country, look at Sweden and their scary Böwling Green Måssacre.

There's no ridiculously far left around. Most is quite right leaning...... I'm still waiting for evidence of the mythical "Liberal Media" I keep hearing about. (just in case you want to accuse me of falling for that or the fake news, or whatever.....)
