a kind thought But I don't think the problem is Trump. The problems is the American people who are consumed by hatreds and racial superiority And it's made worse by the corrupting capitalism that has risen to royal status in the U.S.
A government should legislate for the benefit the whole society. But capital is not interested in people or their societies. It is interested only in profit or- to put it in terms capitalists prefer, interested only in competition.
Any society focussed on profit and competition is a denial of Christian social values.
Too bad our churches, after 2000 years, haven't noticed that.
 
I just think that's what's going to happen - Trump will hop the fence (no wall puns intended - but he can't afford to build that wall anyway and the truth will come out soon) to win his own popularity contest - not that it's going to fix everything. But he has more popularity to gain and less to lose by doing that - and since that is what he cares about, it might help get through 4 yrs. somewhat intact.

I feel that you're engaging in wishful dreaming. What you've shared is just what you'd like to see happen.
 
Really...he has no ideology. His ideology is Trump. He wants to be most liked and most popular. He hates that Hollywood is so critical! A bit of praise from the MSM about his speech, and he's stopped calling them fake news, for now. He's going to flip over.
 
It's quite possible he could do a flip. He already has on some issues. That might help him. But it won't help with the problems facing the U.S. It's the whole society that has collapsed.

Well, I suppose she's as likely as the current occupant which I long thought extremely unlikely. They like their movie stars. Got their feet wet with Reagan, enjoyed the state antics of Schwartznegger and Ventura.

Winfrey and Ventura aren't movie stars of course. That said, you're right - they do like celebrities.
 
If Trump would just stop acting like he's still campaigning and realize he already won the election he'd be better off. His popularity is stagnant around 47% and it's time to start appealing and representing everyone's concerns, not just the republicans. If he wants to increase his appeal, he needs to start addressing concerns of democrats and republicans alike.
His speech to congress tapped into this a bit and if he sincerely keeps it up, he'll be better off.
 
Democrats have to hang everything Trump has done on the GOP. They enabled this to happen. They own Trump now. I pulled this list from Reddit:
  • On tape bragging about sexually assaulting women.
  • Attacked a Gold Star family repeatedly without an apology.
  • Belittled John McCain for being a prisoner of war.
  • Birther movement against Obama.
  • Refers to Mexicans and rapists (projection).
  • Calls Clinton's emails worse than Watergate (projection)
  • Praised numerous dictators.
  • Flynn.
  • The dossier.
  • Refers to the dossier, and the Russian scandal as ruses.
  • Tweets for all to see that any news that is negative against him is Fake News.
  • Said in a few years he'd be dating an underage girl.
  • Made fun of a disabled reporter on television.
  • Swindled people with a fake university.
  • Racist policies regarding housing.
  • Said laziness is a trait inherent in black people.
  • Has appeared in soft porn and told America to watch a sex tape after attacking a former Miss Universe model.
  • Numerous assault and rape allegations.
  • Three wives (imagine if Obama had multiple wives).
  • Stated a judge couldn't be impartial because of Mexican heritage.
  • Yemen raid gone wrong.
  • Advocates for torture and killing families of terrorists (war crimes).
  • Has publicly said women should be punished for getting abortions.
  • Tweeted this after the Orlando attacks "Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!"
  • Failed to denounce KKK (easy to do, no other politician who is a decent person wouldn't).
  • Refused to release his tax returns.
  • Refuses to put any of his businesses in a blind trust and continues business dealing despite them being massive conflicts of interest (imagine if Obama had done this).
  • Bannon.
  • Lied about millions of illegal voters against him after warning that he wouldn't accept the outcome of the election for months because he felt it was rigged.
  • Called for death of "Central Park Five." (found innocent)
  • Disgusting treatment of the press and media, even unnecessarily saying SNL should be cancelled.
  • Lied about crowd sizes due to insecurity.
  • Used campaign donations to get pictures of himself painted (imagine if Obama had done this).
  • Kept charity money.
  • Consistently remarks on the appearance of others, particularly women.
  • Insinuated he was only being audited so much because he was Christian (implying those suing him were Jewish).
  • Said he planned to lock up his political opponent Hillary Clinton, despite her being investigated fully by the FBI.
  • None of the products of his own business are developed in the States (imagine if Obama did this).
  • Has greenlighted Keystone and Dakota access pipelines.
  • Belittles protesters, even stating they are being paid to do so (projection).
  • Doesn't understand the ACA or healthcare.
  • Spends millions taxpayer money to keep his family in NY and buy himself trips to his Florida estate (imagine if Obama did this).
  • Criticized Obama for taking too many vacations, and has already spent millions on vacations than Obama and has played more holes of golf.
  • Implemented an unconstitutional Muslim ban that bizarrely targeted seven countries and ignored ones where he had businesses.
  • Hasn't mentioned attack in Canada by Trump supporter.
  • Calls himself the least racist person in the world, claims he knows more about ISIS than generals, skips intelligence briefing because he's "like, a smart person."
  • Appointed a vice president who believes in gay conversion therapy.
  • Appointed Wall Street insiders to his cabinet despite campaigning against Hillary for her Goldman speeches.
  • His entire f***ing cabinet.
  • Seemingly thought Frederick Douglass was still around.
  • Attacked John Lewis.
  • "the blacks," "the latinos," "bad hombres."
And this is by no mears a complete list. Imagine if Obama had done half of this, what the Republicans would do.
 
True. But the U.S. still has to try to survive the next 4 years without falling apart, regardless. If all of these things impeded his campaign he would not be in. He is. And I think he's going to flip to the "other side" -simply for his own need to be popular (this president stuff is for the birds, he'd rather be golfing and cavorting with socialites) - and Americans just will be a bit happier if they see a more reasonable tone and policies for a few years - until the next circus.
