And millennials could very well be the deciding force of 2020 and throw that old swing state model off, anyway.

Or perpetuate it. Or shift which states are the swing states. The fact is, you'll always have swing voters, voters who change allegiance election to election (which is, by the way, a different phenomenon from people who might change allegiance as they age or advance in their career or whatever, which is a more gradual process rather than shifting every vote). It's how they are distributed that changes.

Follow the polls. Recent polls show that Trump is not suffering. (One poll, Rasmussen, I think, has him leading - but it is not a releable one (to be kind.) All the others. though, show him as being remarkably steady at 40 to 42 percent. It is quite possible he could beat a Biden - and maybe even Sanders.
And it's very, very possible there could be dangerous levels of violence no matter who wins.

Many Americans, especially evangelicals, believe that God wants them to conquer the world - Just as God wanted the British to rule the world in Britain's days of power. And (forget what your school history books tell you) almost all wars are fought to benefit the very wealthy. And, yes, that includes almost every war of more than the last century and more. World War One happened because the capitalists of almost ALL the European powers wanted it So it was an alliance of British, French (with colonial help). The British forced even the Blacks of South Africa into it - and a great many of them died fighting for a Britain that had reduced them to poverty. And, the British didn't bother to bury the dead of South Africa in miilitary cemetries. No. They just dumped them in unmarked pits.

World War Two in Europe and Africa was much the same in that it, too, was really the same capitalists fighting each other. Our news media, as always, preferred to see the war as us good guys and the other side as bad guys. In fact, it was World War 1 all over again. It certainly wasn't to save the Jews. All of the western world knew about the Jewish death camps BEFORE the war. And we were, if anything, supporters of those camps. (The British Empire had a history of even worse mass killing of innocent people.) We pretended we didn't know until late in the war. But our leaders and our capitalists did know. That's why they stole Palestinian land to give to a Jewish state. It wasn't to help the Jews. It was to get rid of them.

The Americans joined the war very late. Obviously, they didn't care. But they entered the war for the same reasons as European capitalists - to make money. American capitalists wanted to steal China, to plunder it, as Britain had. It also wanted French-Indo China (Vietnam) but it lost that one too, after World War Two. The Korean War was a late attempt by the U.S. to get a base for an invasion of China.

Oh, a footnote to all this. In World War Two, the U.S. Rockefellers, with the full knowledge Roosevelt's government, supplied Hitler with his ALL his oil for all of the war. It was done by Standard Oil (Esso). Rockefellers also supplied Germany with much of its explosives - AND it supplied poisons for the Jewish death camps. The Rockefellers all were, of course, devout Baptists who prayed and who read The Bible every day and went to church every Sunday.

And the European war? A major reason for the U.S. to enter that war had nothing to do with evil Germany. It had to do with getting control of Britain's oil fields in the Middle East. And it has done quite well at that.

You want to see real evil? Check out the record of American (and Canadian) capitalism in Latin America. And check out the really murderous treatment of refugees fleeing the horrors we have made of their home countries in Africa and trying to get into Europe, only to be pushed into vile camps or, more often now, kicked back to die in the sea.

Let's not kid ourselves. Canadians, Americans, British, French, Germans don't live in Christian countries. (In fact, even Hitler sold himself to the German people as a devout Roman Catholic - and the Vatican played along with that.)

I just read that Donald Trump wants to (contact Bill Gates to) shut down the Internet.
what????????

I think crazyheart was right to be alarmed.

But certainly our laws and bureaucracy would prevent efforts to surveil and censor the internet on a mass scale, right?

Section 606 of the Communications Act of 1934 provides emergency powers to seize control of communications facilities if the president declares there is a "war or threat of war" or "a state of public peril."

In 2010, a Senate report concluded that section 606 "gives the President the authority to take over wire communications in the United States and, if the President so chooses, shut a network down." With a stroke of a pen, Trump could invoke it.

Buried in a stopgap government funding resolution unveiled by House Democrats Monday (Nov 18/2019) is a provision that would reauthorize the notoriously abusive Patriot Act for three months, a move privacy advocates warned would ensure President Donald Trump’s administration holds on to “terrifying authoritarian surveillance powers.”

On Nov 19/2019 President Donald Trump says Iran is so “unstable” that the Iranian government has shut down the internet so Iranians cannot disclose what he says is the “tremendous violence” occurring in the country.

Trump tweeted Thursday that the Iranian government wants “ZERO transparency” and believes that by shutting down the internet the rest of the world will not find out about the “death and tragedy that the Iranian Regime is causing!”

And my power just went out ... no word of a lie ... and it's back ... but finicky.

Perhaps a signal for me to stop this futile wallowing in the swamp.

Democracy is long dead in the U.S. - and in Canada. Indeed, neither country has ever been a democracy. And democracy is not what the American Revolution was about.
Washington led a rebellion because he was the biggest landowner in the country. And Britain would not allow any expansion of the existing states of the time. That's what the revolution was about. And, of course, it had to find a new form of government. And democracy was the newest kid on the block. So they called the U.S. a democracy - though it never really was.

The U.S. then used its independence to slaughter indigenous peoples, reducing them from millions to about 70 thousand by 1900. Oh - and democracies don't have slaves.

It then took a stab at stealing Canada - but lost. However, they were later successful in going to war with Mexico from which they stole Texas, Arizona, the whole California coast and even more. (Ever wonder why an English speaking country has a Los Angeles? San Francisco? Aizona? Las Vegas?

American and Canadian governments have always been bought by the wealthy. In the U.S., it's now gone so far that Americans are dumb enough to elect billionaires. Alas! Neither Americans nor Canadians seem to be great thinkers. Thus the disasters we now see in the federal governments of both countries.

When it counts—with civil liberties and the (un)trustworthiness of the state to handle its dangerous toys—there's little to distinguish leading Democrats from leading Republicans. Their major real disagreement is over who should be in charge of misusing and abusing those excessive powers. Ultimately, though, Democrats are happy to keep the surveillance state up and running and in the hands of a president they denounce as dangerous.

That's not true. There is a large section of the Democratic Party trying to correct course. And "Reason" is a right wing publication, trying to appeal to traditional Republicans, and the libertarian right wing, so it's no surprise they would say there's little difference. I think that was true 8 years ago. It was true 4 years ago. Things have changed since then.

Or follow the polls, but not too seriously...because they were way off in 2016.

But interfering with communications does not amount to censorship ... so don;t communicate anything serious ... it isn't allowed!

God needed a place for naivete ...

It is not a left right issue ...

One of the many reasons people want Trump out of office, and are therefore enthralled by the impeachment hearings.
You are enthralled when filled with delight and wonder at something, to the point where time seems to stand still. Creators of day time soap operas count on viewers being enthralled to make their money. There's a transporting quality to the act of being enthralled, as though you have been, quite literally, whisked away.

Scholars and Activists ...
  • We are outraged by the Áñez regime’s violations of Bolivians’ political, civil, and human rights, and by the deplorable use of deadly violence that has led to a mounting death toll of protesters and countless serious injuries. We call upon the international community to immediately and publicly condemn these acts of violence. We ask international human rights bodies and organizations to impartially investigate and document the acts of violence committed by government agents. We demand that the international community ensure that this de facto regime, which is at best highly dubious and viewed by many as lacking any legitimacy, protect the lives of peaceful protesters, respect the rights of all to freedom of assembly and speech, and strictly abide by international norms on the use of force in situations of civilian violence. We demand that the U.S. and other foreign governments cease all support to this regime and withhold international recognition until free and fair elections—including all political parties—are held, repressive violence ceases, and the fundamental human rights of all Bolivians are respected.

Congruency:
Noun. congruency (countable and uncountable, plural congruencies) The quality of agreeing; being suitable and appropriate. (mathematics) The state of being congruent.

Can these run together as parallel or ink on a pageboy that may be metaphorically gnomon of letters.
