Discussion or no discussion. Whether a point is being made or someone just wants to "sh*t post" (it's a real term) alt right memes/ vids, I am calling them out every time or else this place is just going to be infested with alt-right links. They are a contagion.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the heat Trump is taking for trying to broker a compromise with the Democrats.

Seems the only way the Dems might be able to take him down is to find ways to work with him.

Gone are the paranoid days of the Red Menace, gone are the days of shame for the Klan. According to 45 Russia is okay and so is White Supremacy and his base resonates with both positions to some degree but working with the Democrats? Way too much for partisans to swallow.

I'm with revsdd. Trump makes for good copy. But he's not the problem. And once you say he's driven by ego and really has no sense of what is required, there's nothing else to say. He is not a cause of anything. He is the product of a corrupt and failing state.

So here's good word for Trump. He wanted to move away from hostility to Russia. That is what made him hated by the U.S. financial establishment. It's major market is created by war and fear of wars. It does not want peaceful talks.
So Trump, of course, lost that battle. And his attempt at peace is what made most of the American news media so hostile to him.

Dear Russia: An Enemy Is Not A Partner

Trump's MO was his bank account and Putin's is quite a bit more complex than that, imo. He's playing a divide and conquer game, for power, and he toyed with the U.S. system in the process. He found - and the alt right was that bridge - a way to get US citizens to work against themselves.

You're talking from presumption, not information. What we do know is that Trump tried to open a door, and that Putin responded - and that the deep government with the help of the news media destroyed it.

Look. The U.S. has consistently treated other countries as enemies or servants. If we want to place blame, we can't just ignore the policies of every American president since 1945. The U.S. has been an aggressor and a mass killer all over the world. Let's get over this 'the other side is evil' fantasy.
The U.S. now is as evil as any society in history. It's economic leaders are soaked in corruption and greed.
If I were Putin, I'd be very , very careful in dealing with it. This is a country that murders and abuses its own citizens on a large scale.
Putin show himself open to talks. Maybe he was insincere - but neither not I know anything about that.
The other reality to bear in mind is that the U.S. CANNOT conquer the world. - Unless it destroys it.

We have to look at talking. There is no choice.

I think too the US is in the last stages of Empire and maybe on some level knows it. I totally understood the desire for change down there (and up here) sadly, the change they (we) are looking for is not in our current leadership for so many reasons. I agree with you @Graeme Decarie , the current president is not the issue. The fact that he was elected in the first place is. On so many levels. Focussing on him ignores bigger problems. Being fixated on him is like digging a hole in the sand and sticking our head down it.

That being said, I'm sitting by a campfire, knitting a blanket, drinking a glass of wine and pretending that stuff is not out there. (for now)

Graeme, the Russian government also murders it's own citizens, severely restricts human rights, has a near total monopoly on Russian news, and is trying to break up the EU to take back its former nation states whether they want to or not. Breaking up the EU gives Russia more power. And yes they are capable of instigating and participating in ugly wars, too.

Breaking up the EU is a very bad idea!

I think the U.S. being in the last stages of empire is a Russian driven propaganda narrative and by helping elect Trump, they want to make it some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, actually.

I have not been reading Russian literature or other writings so am not basing my opinion on Russian propaganda. Nice try.
