Then do you know why people who undergo SRS opt for the usual vanilla body types with male or female secondary sex characteristics? If that is accurate that is.

My first thought would be simply that the goal for these people is to match their biological sex characteristics to their gender, no more or less. A transwoman generally isn't looking to have a touch pad and fur, IME, she's looking to have a vagina and breasts. None of what you described falls under that and would put things into the realm of body modification, not SRS.

Mendalla said it well.... what we are longing for is a body that most closely matches our internal sense of gender. This is a biological need. Gender Dysphoria is a biological condition caused by a brain that does not match the body. It is not a choice or just a simple desire or preference. This is where it differs from other body modifications or cosmetic surgeries.
I hope this helps :)

Rita, how are you and how is your family.
I am doing superb :) The surgery went textbook perfect and my recovery as well. I am ahead of the curve for recovery. My life is so much better now that the gender dysphoria is gone.
As for family ..... we are settling in with each other and I have seen all of my grandkids except 2.
I have a new grandson and I have been included and sent lots of pictures :)
Soon they will be visiting Sudbury and I will get to hold and cuddle the little one!
Today I was asked by my ex wife to go to her home and help fix a faulty faucet.
It is so good that we are slowly getting used to each other and a new friendship is growing.
God is indeed good.....
Thank you for asking :)

Why is the condition, then, not a mental issue?
The easiest way to explain this Jae (and I will use me as an example) is that a female brain develops in an otherwise male developed body. I have explained before in this thread how that happens. There is nothing wrong with the brain and physically there is nothing wrong with the body. The female brain has trouble dealing with a body that is not female like the brain is.
Is this a mental condition? Yes it is ....but not in the sense of something wrong with the brain. The brain's sense of gender cannot be modified. There is plenty of quality peer reviewed research and clinical experience to back this up. Therefore the course of treatment is to modify the body to match as closely as possible the brain's innate sense of gender. This course of treatment is 99.5% effective in treating the gender dysphoria and greatly improving the person's quality of life.
I put myself forward as a living example of that :)

I'm so glad to hear that things are well for you, Rita! I can't say that I wasn't a little nervous to hear that the surgery would take place in Thailand; I've never heard of their medical system being anything special. I imagine that country will now hold an important part of your heart...
Congratulations!

From what I understand, the Thai culture has been accepting long before north American. There medical systems became a destination for gender reassignment surgery and the support during recovery.

I had a friend who went there, over a decade ago

Very glad to hear that things went well, Rita, and that you are rebuilding and even strengthening relationships with your family. And congratulations on the new grandson!

Why is the condition, then, not a mental issue?

Because there are those authorities that say there is no such thing as mind, soul or psyche because knowledge, information, and foreign intelligence is evil ... take sects for instance as isolated parts ...

One is supposed to love the hating thereof ... thus pea*ceis just like lentils in the soup ... under the surface it is quieter piece ... then Jae disturbs it ... tis his understanding ... quite d' role if you think it through ... wholly role Errs ...

An update on my project to share with churches..........
Very good news today! A prominent local church of the baptist stream has agreed to have me share with their church in the fall of 2018. It will start with the leadership....then move on to the general congregation....and then finally the youth. We are approaching this from the viewpoint of practical love. The concept is town hall style rather than a prepared speech.
I feel this is very brave of this church and its leadership and I am grateful for the opportunity.
On a separate endevour..... I have started attending Wednesday bible studies of particular evangelical churches. I want them to get to know me and start a dialogue on what it is like to be affected by those churches. I am making it personal. So far the response has been encouraging and relationships are being built.
I will keep you posted as things develop. :)

No Baptist church I know would engage in such a meeting.

Oh,my, Rita, you are so brave.
I totally agree!

RitaTG your courage and grace are inspiring to me. Kudos to your local baptist church for it's ability to engage beyond what I imagine is its usual comfort zone. I do have a friend who attends a similar Baptist church in my area - it is good to know some are more open than others.

Actually, I had a gentle-ish (for me) conversation with my s-i-l last summer. She goes to a pentecostal church, and they are making little baby steps in the direction of understanding gender variations.
