Unfortunately wrong Jae....... and I realize you didn't know about my condition....

Thank you for understanding that RitaTG. I see that we posted at the same time. I hadn't seen yours first.

Right now my group has suspended me from speaking and a lot of the work I was doing.
This is for my own safety as I was sinking fast and I was in a very bad place mentally....

That is both wise and caring.

Right now I cannot do the work I am so passionate about and that adds to the anxiety and hurt. Such is life

I hope that you'll take good care of yourself right now RitaTG, and allow yourself the time off that you need.

Now, I hope you'll understand that I'm seeking to help when I ask this next question. You wrote, "I have been dealing with a severe and serious depression..." People use the word "depression" in different ways - have you seen a doctor to assure that nothing medical is going on?

Rita, please know that many of us here will be holding you in prayer as you deal with this. I know some will say that isn't much, but it is certainly my way of saying that I care.

She said in her response to my post that she is under care and receiving medication so I assume that the medical questions have been dealt with.

Oh Rita, so sorry to hear you're struggling. I remember reading "The Family Crucible" years ago and how one person changing the steps to their dance causes everyone you know to change also.
My prayers are with you and I'm glad to hear you are also surrounding yourself with others who care about YOU.

Thank you for asking Jae ...... yes I have been checked and I am being monitored and helped by a doctor that is carefully checking both my physical condition and mental condition. There have been a number of tests to assure that there is not some underlying physical cause.

That's good. Joining others here in prayer for you RitaTG.

Sending hug to you @RitaTG . May you find the peace and strength you need. I'm glad you have supports and hope that you have loving arms around you in real life too.

Oh, Rita. I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling. Please know that you are of great value to us here as I'm sure you are to people in your real (not online) life. I'm glad you are getting the help you need and checking in here when you are able. You are in my prayers.

Rita, if there's every anything I can do, practical, or just a shoulder, shout, okay? You are much loved here.

Prayers offered RitaTG for you and all your family as you journey through these difficult and unpredictable waters. Good plan to take a break on many fronts while you process all that is occurring.

Yes Rita a marriage ending often is associated with depression. It is when one knows what must be done and isn't quite ready to do it-or at least that was my experience. Prayers for you and may you feel God's love surrounding you.

Rita, I have a question about deadnaming. Please feel free to answer when you're comfortable doing so as I don't want to affect your healing journey.

My cousin's child (age 6-ish) has just come out as transgender. To announce it on facebook, my cousin said something like "the child you know as William" and then revealed the name that she has selected for herself. I thought it was really great and I continue to appreciate the online articles that my cousin shares to help the family understand the changes in her family.

I understand that Caitlyn Jenner does not want to be called by her deadname.
(As I'm typing this, the whole line of thought is sounding stupider and stupider... excuse me.)
I hate that the Duchess of Cambridge is still referred to as "Kate Middleton". I know it's not the same as a deadname AT ALL but I remember reading articles about the reason that name was still used which refers to internet searches, archiving of news articles, etc. For someone as famous as Caitlyn Jenner (both pre- and post- public transition), I don't know what can/should be done about using her deadname.
I guess it turns out that I don't really have a question per se, just a general wondering about how media outlets, historians, etc. should be handling this tricky situation.

A bit of an aside - I saw in the paper today (Wed Sept 28) that tonight's episode of Modern Family will also include a trans child friend of little Lily.

I think that's a fair expectation going forward but, unlike trans people without a public life, she is never going to escape her old name. "Bruce Jenner" appears in just too many histories and record books and some of them will never be changed. Even someone relatively obscure like me would still have to deal with old records and that sort of thing even if I managed to get everyone in my current life using the new name and all my current documentation changed.

That said, IMHO, the polite and correct thing for all of us is to use the name offered and recognize that the "deadname" (I don't like that term, is that really what they call it?) is an historical artifact, present in places but no longer referring to that person. For instance, I neither know nor care if I ever know Rita's "deadname". She is, and always has been, Rita to me.

Agreed. People should be called the name they currently choose to go by. Nuff said.

I hate the term "deadname". It was a name chosen with love for my daughter. They are using a different name-actually a variety of names as they settle on one. Isn't there a gentlemen phrase?
