Gnomes love their Christmas cooking. They also live underground. At this time they build lots of new ventillation shafts. Like these.

I'd like to see the second one with a greater depth of field - just for curiosity's sake. Maybe just to challenge you to try now you have a real camera. By the way- what did you buy?

Thanks @KayTheCurler feedback is great. When I figure out how do do that, I'll give it a shot. I got a Canon T7i. I love it so far.

Focus is my next goal. It does really well in some situations

It focuses on the wrong thing in others. I know I can choose what to focus on. I just have to figure out how to do that 20190104133738_IMG_0120.jpg

My photos of him there yesterday were better. I did get a couple good ones of him today in a different spot. If I knew my camera better, and were on the ball, I might have gotten him in flight today. 20190104142255_IMG_0149.jpg

The puppy is adorable! The bird would have worked better if you switched the camera to manual focus. Auto focus tends to fixate on what is closer to the lens.

I tried to put it in manual focus. I had inadvertantly put it in live shooting so couldn't use the viewfinder. I'm going to play with manual focus tomorrow.

So much to learn with a new camera! Do you use online tutorials at all?

We're going out to Squamish in a week or so - looking forward to seeing all the bald eagles that winter there - my mate is an excellent photographer ... so there will be some interesting shots I think.

I'll have to check online resources too. I learn better if I explore first then get info. I'm ready for info. I have a friend who is a great photographer. She has Canon so is a great resource.
