Going to break my own rules a bit by recommending a series on StoriesSpace by another longtime member (he's even married to someone he met on the site and its NSFW sibling). This memoir of hitchhiking from his family home in the MidWest to New York City via Ontario is quite an interesting tale, esp. from the standpoint of an American in Canada in that time period. Some more detail would be nice but I still enjoyed it (well, am enjoying, still have part 7 to go but he's back in the US now).

And it rises over a green spherical globe ... perhaps 'Ired in a different way? That's the Job ... imposing madness ... and fools rush ... the dash is on ... while some of us go for counter measures! Adversaries ... the deb bel has one ... to teach!

Contrary to the ones who take all thought away ... go'f ig ure ...

And my new story, an entry in the "It's Not What It Looks Like" contest on StoriesSpace, is up. Mine is a bit subtle on the theme. The protagonist couple are "not what they look like" (won't spoil it but their actual situation is pretty clear from the beginning, it's the supporting cast who are out of the loop) and that drives much of the story. There's another "not what it looks like" revelation near the end (again, won't spoil it).

Third place!!! Yeeehaw!!! And the winner is a favourite of mine. She's a good writer and used Orson Welles famous "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast very cleverly in the story.

Probably should just stick this in the writing thread, but here's my latest. It's 70 words for an informal "challenge" presented by the winner of the last comp so it's posted in a forum thread rather than as a story. As always, the other entries are worth a read, too.

Neat! Shortest I've ever written for a challenge was 125 words.

StoriesSpace and its sister site have a "micro" category with a max. of 100 words. So I have written 100 word stories (I think I even clocked in in the 90s once or twice), including for a comp. But 70 makes even that look easy. My first attempt (abandoned in favour of this one) clocked in at 101 so I was looking at trimming 31 words, hence abandoning it. At least this one is "hint" fiction meaning it was to "hint" at the bigger story rather than telling a full story itself.

You "hinted" well
