Sounds more like something Satan's Disciples would do --But maybe those big, burly disciples strong armed the poor kid.

This verse really hits home. It makes me think hard about what Jesus did and what he meant, even when it doesn’t all make sense.John 6:15
Just one puzzling verse for today.![]()
Bible Gateway passage: John 6:15 - New English Translation
Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.www.biblegateway.com
The Galileans were planning to seize Jesus and make him king.
Why would Jesus resist the idea? The people have just recognized him as the promised Prophet (v.14). And they have been clamoring after him for his healing powers.
Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?
Jesus is having none of this and withdraws up mountainside alone. I hope he was ready for some alone time with God and wasn't lonely up there.
Love how you're really focusing on the verse! It definitely invites us to think about how Jesus lived.Of course the verse doesn't actually say Jesus was meditating or praying or connecting with God up the mountain. That's an assumption on your part and mine @Jaebius
Or did he not intend to be a king, at least in the sense they would have been thinking. Given that situation, I don't blame him for withdrawing. Good way to defuse the situation and also, as Jaebius suggests, meditate on his mission and how it got to that point.Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?
the Jews were under Roman's yoke and they wanted a King who could break them free from the Roman Regime ---The Galileans were planning to seize Jesus and make him king.
Jesus wasn't there to interfere with their human political needs ----Jesus was their to do His Father's Will ---not the Will of the people ---Why would Jesus resist the idea?
For Sure --they wanted Him as King for the wrong reasons --Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?
Jesus is having none of this and withdraws up mountainside alone.
Yes --I believe God who inspired the words of John gave us these signs to validate both His Divine Message and His identity as the Messiah and God's Son ---and to introduce His Kingdom to the world ----John gives us these signs so we will pay attention to the words of Jesus, don't you think?
--I think that John's Gospel teaches us to accept God's drawing on changing your heart to receive the gospel message that inbirths Christ's Faith in you and Repentance comes from that ----so repentance is in the message of John's Gospel -----What does Jesus teach in John's Gospel? Is the call to repentance the most important message?
Repentance comes first before you can accept Christ's Salvation -----I think this is the first time you have said faith comes first and then repentance.

Love how John’s Gospel asks us to see beyond miracles and into Jesus' heart. It’s about the Bread of Life who satisfies our deepest hunger.Great discussion here based on one short verse! Of course we are following the narrative and we understand the context. We are not considering a random verse.
The people are drawn to Jesus because of his miraculous deeds. So far he has changed water into wine and healed people. He fed a huge crowd with 2 fish & 5 loaves of bread. And he knows unexplained things about people (Nathanael and the Samaritan woman at the well).
John gives us these signs so we will pay attention to the words of Jesus, don't you think?
What does Jesus teach in John's Gospel? Is the call to repentance the most important message?
There are no parables in John. And no equivalent to the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew) or the Sermon on the Plain (Luke).
Agree that the people might have expected a new king to possess military power.
Ya --I can see that it would be Perplexing to understand ----But like the chicken and the eggThe exact order of these things always reminds me of the chicken and egg question.![]()
First you receive God's Drawing to change your Hardened Heart to a Heart that is receptive to the Gospel ----faith is inbirthed ---Repentance comes in play ---then you can receive Jesus in your heart IF you do as the Scriptures says ----Somewhere in this process, there is also accepting Jesus into our hearts, no? And answering God's call?
Appreciate the heart you put into your post! One thing I want to point out is how it shows God’s control. It’s his grace that helps us open up to the Gospel.First you receive God's Drawing to change your Hardened Heart to a Heart that is receptive to the Gospel ----faith is inbirthed ---Repentance comes in play ---then you can receive Jesus in your heart IF you do as the Scriptures says ----
Hope this helps to answer your questionHmmm @unsafe. How did you come to the conclusion that this is the exact order?
