Sounds more like something Satan's Disciples would do -- :ROFLMAO: ------than Disciples who were following Jesus ====but who knows ?

John 6:15
Just one puzzling verse for today.

The Galileans were planning to seize Jesus and make him king.

Why would Jesus resist the idea? The people have just recognized him as the promised Prophet (v.14). And they have been clamoring after him for his healing powers.

Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?

Jesus is having none of this and withdraws up mountainside alone. I hope he was ready for some alone time with God and wasn't lonely up there.

This verse really hits home. It makes me think hard about what Jesus did and what he meant, even when it doesn’t all make sense.

What stands out to me is how Jesus gets why the crowd wants what they do. They don't fully understand his mission. They saw him as someone who would take down the oppressors and wear a crown. But Jesus was always working on his own schedule.

And then there's my favorite part. Jesus goes up to the mountain by himself. He chooses to be alone because he knows how important it is to reconnect with God and align with his Father's wishes. That quiet time was key for him.

This verse makes me reflect on my own heart. I want to seek Jesus for who he really is and trust his timing and plan. When life tries to pull me in different directions, I need the courage to pause and look for God in the quiet, knowing he sees the whole picture. It’s a beautiful challenge

Of course the verse doesn't actually say Jesus was meditating or praying or connecting with God up the mountain. That's an assumption on your part and mine @Jaebius

Love how you're really focusing on the verse! It definitely invites us to think about how Jesus lived.

In the Gospels, we notice that Jesus often took time to go off by himself to pray and connect with God. It was such a regular part of his life that it's worth bringing up here. What stands out is that Jesus shows us how important it is to take a step back and focus on God.

It's a great reminder for everyone in ministry! We all need those quiet moments to reconnect with God, so we can step back into the world and give to others from a place of fullness, just like Jesus did

Yes @Jaebius we see Jesus praying on mountainsides elsewhere in the Gospels. So it seems like a reasonable conclusion to draw here in John..

All the same, I thought it worth mentioning that we both, in fact, made an assumption. It's a good example of how the different gospel accounts become conflated in our minds.

Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?
Or did he not intend to be a king, at least in the sense they would have been thinking. Given that situation, I don't blame him for withdrawing. Good way to defuse the situation and also, as Jaebius suggests, meditate on his mission and how it got to that point.

The Galileans were planning to seize Jesus and make him king.
the Jews were under Roman's yoke and they wanted a King who could break them free from the Roman Regime ---

Jesus was performing healings and miracles and had just finished feeding the 5,000 with a small snack ----The Jews then saw Jesus as their tangible King full of power who could break them free from the Roman's yoke they were under ----

I would say their emotions were running ramped and their excitement of finally seeing the person they thought was prophesied in their Scriptures that would come and rescue them-- they weren't going to let this go lightly -----their thinking was political not Spiritual ----

Why would Jesus resist the idea?
Jesus wasn't there to interfere with their human political needs ----Jesus was their to do His Father's Will ---not the Will of the people ---

Did they want to make him king for the wrong reasons? Or is the time simply not right?
For Sure --they wanted Him as King for the wrong reasons --

But there is the thing with the Jewish Nation ---- their Spiritual knowledge was veiled so their minds are still thinking like the world ---all they can see and understand with their worldly lens is ----We need a KING with Power to get us free from the yoke of the Roman rulers and restore our Nation -----and Jesus is Our Human King -----

This again shows us that there are ---2 Lens that we view from ----Worldly and Spiritual ----

Jesus came to give us the Spiritual View though His Spiritual lens ----but without the Spirit the world is our lens ---

The answer to your last part here in your Quote ----the time was never Right for what they wanted ----as they wanted a Powerful Political tangible King and that was never going to happen at any time ----

Jesus is having none of this and withdraws up mountainside alone.

Jesu withdraws to the Mountain to be alone -----I believe for several reasons ---he had just performed the miracle of the 5,000 ----and he would have not wanted a large crowd gathering around Him and the Jews were going to force Him into their political arena agenda which was not His Mission ----He wanted to be refreshed and refueled to carry on with His Father's Will to Preach the Gospel and do as He was instructed to do ---so no doubt in my mind that He communicated with His Father in Prayer on the mountain -----

Some Spiritual messages I see behind John 6:15 for believers today ---

Just like feeding the 5,000 with the barley loves to sustain hunger at a meeting --Jesus is our bread of Life who sustains His Children's hunger in this world -----

We are to put God's will and desire for us over our will and our desires ----Jesus is our Spiritual King not our Worldly Tangible Earthly King ===

We are to resist the temptation of chasing after worldly achievements for our own gain ----the Jews wanted to be free of the Roman rule and were forcing a human King to suit their own agenda ----

We are to withdraw from worldly praise and seek the praises of God ----Jesus showed this by withdrawing from the crowd after the miracle ----

Great discussion here based on one short verse! Of course we are following the narrative and we understand the context. We are not considering a random verse.

The people are drawn to Jesus because of his miraculous deeds. So far he has changed water into wine and healed people. He fed a huge crowd with 2 fish & 5 loaves of bread. And he knows unexplained things about people (Nathanael and the Samaritan woman at the well).

John gives us these signs so we will pay attention to the words of Jesus, don't you think?

What does Jesus teach in John's Gospel? Is the call to repentance the most important message?

There are no parables in John. And no equivalent to the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew) or the Sermon on the Plain (Luke).

Agree that the people might have expected a new king to possess military power.

Yes --I believe God who inspired the words of John gave us these signs to validate both His Divine Message and His identity as the Messiah and God's Son ---and to introduce His Kingdom to the world ----
These signs and wonders demonstrated His divine power and authority and serves to validate His Divine Nature --- it shows us His divine power over sickness and disease---over death ---and over lack -

Reading about these signs and wonders can lead people to follow Jesus through His Faith and be adopted back into the sheep fold ==
What does Jesus teach in John's Gospel? Is the call to repentance the most important message?
--I think that John's Gospel teaches us to accept God's drawing on changing your heart to receive the gospel message that inbirths Christ's Faith in you and Repentance comes from that ----so repentance is in the message of John's Gospel -----

Without Christ's Saving faith first in you you won't Repent -----

@unsafe
The exact order of these things always reminds me of the chicken and egg question.

I think this is the first time you have said faith comes first and then repentance.

We have talked many times about faith, being Born Again, and receiving the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Somewhere in this process, there is also accepting Jesus into our hearts, no? And answering God's call?

I think this is the first time you have said faith comes first and then repentance.
Repentance comes first before you can accept Christ's Salvation -----

But neither comes before Christ's Faith ------Faith comes from Hearing the Gospel ----this is the first step ----Saving Faith always comes fist ---repentance comes after Christ's Faith is inbirthed in you - ---that is repentance is a fruit of Christ's faith ---and Salvation is also a Fruit of Christ's Faith ----

Love how John’s Gospel asks us to see beyond miracles and into Jesus' heart. It’s about the Bread of Life who satisfies our deepest hunger.

You’re absolutely right that John’s Gospel doesn’t include parables or great sermons. Instead, it gives us these profound “I am” statements and close encounters that reveal who Jesus is. John’s focus is on belief. It's about turning toward the Rescuer.

Jesus flips the expectations of the people who wanted a king with military power. He came as a servant. He offered liberation from sin. His kingdom is not of this world, and His power is shown in sacrificial love.

Ya --I can see that it would be Perplexing to understand ----But like the chicken and the egg
scenario there is a right process to getting the egg in the end -----

First you receive God's Drawing to change your Hardened Heart to a Heart that is receptive to the Gospel ----faith is inbirthed ---Repentance comes in play ---then you can receive Jesus in your heart IF you do as the Scriptures says ----

Appreciate the heart you put into your post! One thing I want to point out is how it shows God’s control. It’s his grace that helps us open up to the Gospel.

Everything starts with God choosing us. Even before time began, he picked those he would rescue, and that's all about his plan. This makes it clear that our rescue is entirely his doing, and we owe everything to him.

It's the Spirit that works in us, guiding us to do what she wants. Faith is a gift from her amazing work in our hearts, and repentance is just turning towards Christ’s loving kindness.

Accepting Jesus means letting go and trusting in what he did on the cross. When we feel his grace and receive faith, all we do is respond! That’s the essence of the Gospel: it’s all him, not us

Odd man out here thinks that faith is a decision we make. But I don't rule out a call from God to get the ball rolling.

We have strayed a fair ways from today's reading. But no worries. I was as tangential as anyone else.

Tomorrow we will consider Jesus walking on the water. Then Snoopy will take a break over the long weekend.

It's a four day weekend for kids in Ontario. And for those who work in schools.

Hmmm @unsafe. How did you come to the conclusion that this is the exact order?
Hope this helps to answer your question

First step is here in John 6:44---
NIV
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them----

Greek word for Draw

Strong's Lexicon
helkó: To draw, to drag
In the New Testament, it is often used metaphorically to describe the drawing of people to Jesus

Ezekiel 36:26 AMP ====second step ---this is in the future as we are in the Old Testament here ---

"I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."

From Google
The Hebrew word used here is "basar" which means flesh, this phrase represents a heart that is responsive to God's word and obedient to his commands.

Romans 10:17--Third step --Faith

So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.

I say -----John the Baptise came to preach God;s word ---which inbirthed Faith in his people and they repented -----

AI -----4th step ===Repentance

The scripture verses that relate "hear the gospel and repent" are found in Mark 1:15:
another scripture that emphasize hearing the gospel and responding with repentance Romans 10:14-17, which states that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ.
In essence, these scriptures emphasize the connection between hearing the gospel, responding with repentance,

One you have repented ----then your Salvation is at hand

Romans 10:8-10 AMPC

8 But what does it say? The Word (God’s message in Christ) is near you, on your lips and in your heart; that is, the Word (the message, the basis and object) of faith which we preach,

9 Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.
