The Church Vs. The State Civil Disobedience

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

t's very easy to put someone on ignore. Just click on the person's avatar and Ignore will come up as an option.
Ignore is not an option for a select few ... you can ignore me and I can ignore you but neither of us is allowed to ignore the Redbaron ... and if you try ... deletion is at his disposal.

Oh no? I didn't realize we couldn't Ignore the moderators.

Disruptive? I thought Wondercafe2 was a place for posting ideas and questions or sharing information or experiences and then discussing them from various points of view. How are the Red Baron's comments disruptive?

Control the threads?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No one is trying to control the thread. We're simply trying to balance out the conspiratorial foolishness with a modicum of truth, fact, sanity and reality.
There are many here who decide that they can dismiss any point of view that they do not share with 'conspiracy foolishness'.

Just because you disagree with another persons point of view does not entitle you to dismiss it ... that is what Redbaron is attempting to do in a disruptive manner. And he is calling himself we. Does Redbaron speak for you as well?
You posted the views of that congregation and the pastor along with your views. Some of us take the hazards of Covid-19 more seriously than you do and do not see wearing masks and practicing physical distancing as oppressive as you do.
That is true ... and that is what the discussion is about ... RedBaron is not discussing anything. RedBaron is name calling and mocking ... coming from a 'moderator' I find it particularly disruptive. There have been some excellent moderators in this forum ... and there have been some that have no clue as to what their added responsibility entails. Perhaps we should have a thread about that. What is the duty of a moderator?

I've never deleted anything you've posted.
Glad to hear it. This thread is about people that are disgreeing with mandatory health measures as being too restrictive. A pastor is in Jail in Edmonton for that reason. Many persons from all walks of life agree with him. I am one of them. His congregation in particular has managed to meet for 30 some weeks at full capacity without having any outbreaks of 'cases' associated with that. If you are going to state that they have endangered lives in any way shape or form ... the onus would be on you to prove that ... not just state it as a fact. Can you do that?

Since this is not so much a matter of theology (though theological ideology no doubt shapes engagement) as it is public health protocols it is the public health protocols that need to be shown to be deficient or unreasonable. So far that has not been demonstrated to the satisfaction of any judge with authority to make a ruling.
Exactly. And in the meantime ... more and more are going to act on the evidence that they are indeed deficient or unreasonable as they see fit. I don't think there will be enough jail cells to hold them all until the authorities can make the time to make a judgemental ruling for or against.

More and more may not amount to very many at all.

How many will refuse bail conditions?

So far none choosing this particular form of civil disobedience in NL and we have some very interesting congregations scattered around.

Time will tell though.

What is unreasonable in a domain where folk are juiced on the concepts of control-ism ... yet cannot control their own wishes to be completely free ... anon ... it is coming! BDSM? It appears we are bound to such confinements ... way out there ...

With some imagination we can prepare by drifting off regularly for decent rest! Relaxation theory ... comes after the stigma ... wild stimulus of dark beauties? Prepare for the come down ... nemesis? The ground of belief ... drags to a stop ...

Hubris is difficult to eradicate.

One can imagine a circumstance in which one, with great humility, can say "You are wrong and I am right."

Indeed it seems that it takes a greater and more tremendous amount of imagination for individuals to recognize that they can say the line, "You are wrong and I am right" with absolutely nothing remotely resembling humility.

I suspect it is times like this when what is needed, more than anything, is a pre-existing relationship that is able to discern between the line spoken full of humility and the line spoken full of crap.

The internet doesn't seem to be a space where there is a careful investment in relationship. Unless what is sought after is hostile relationships then maybe that is the default start for all.

Best to retort: "I don't know" and pay attention to what response that is given (onus) for digging something out of it ... profound process?

The poking at it can be a stimuli that few expected to provide (logo) results ... and it steams along ... and in the end to see what mood erupts!

The pastor that has taken over for the jailed pastor continues to do what Pastor Coates was arrested for ... why has he not been arrested. And if he were arrested and bail conditions were set in the same fashion ... the second pastor would refuse them as well. And so on and so on. So ... that is my point ... they tried and failed to make the 1st pastor that they arrested 'bow'. And there are more churches opening up ... or moving congregations into the street so to speak.

People fight over high places ... observe battles over loyalty to covariant ... thus they couldn't get it together! Twin peeks ...

Two humper ... high in the Himalayas ...

What a stupid hill to die on.
An issue to pursue with wholehearted conviction and with little or no regard to the personal cost is what I would understand the hill to die on expression to mean. Some people are not afraid of actually sticking to their 'convictions' ... the judge or the prosecuter in this case are the ones that have picked a stupid hill to die on ... they have arrested and jailed and placed conditions where they did not need to ... they have brought attention to themselves and not in a favorable light.

What conviction is it that this minister is sticking to. That he knows best? Or that rules don’t apply to him?

no one likes being kept apart. Most people are willing to abide by these short term rules to protect the vulnerable
