Strip Clubs

The requirement to "turn folks on" is based on subjective, arbitrary standards though, isn't it? I asked before, who says that imperfect women can't turn folks on? Voluptuous women turned on many men in times past, "twiggy" women in the 60s, hairy women in the 70s, etc. and that has to do with social attitudes that are not absolute and unchanging. If strip clubs mainly want to cater to the men who like women with augmented breasts and make that the industry "norm" then they are falling behind with the pace of change in the rest of society today - whereby we are trying to get across the idea that everyone is beautiful and sexy in their own way - and they are the last bastion of discrimination allowed to dictate what is sexy and who can be included as sexy.

Skills: dance (musical), gymnastics, barter/banter/sales, emotional IQ, seduction(?), drama, make-up/appearance, natural entertainer
Unless specialized show, atheleticism, team player, excellent self-esteem,

Athleticism! Aha! I knew there was something I was lacking.

Then again Cousin - perhaps many people just so happen to like the appearance of women who have large breasts.

I was pretty involved with a swing group for a while. There was rarely alcohol when we were hosting and not just using a bar to put on a social dance. When it was a bigger event though, we sometimes would. There would be performances, including burlesque although the primary event was social dancing.

It wasn't stripping naked, but that's still not allowed from what I've seen in Sask. I guess it would depend though what sort of leeway they have in place for art.

After that first sentence I quoted I thought you were admitting to being a swinger.

Kimmio, being passionate about something is great . But to have that passion

turn to anger and being distraught and looking for a fight is not great.

I have seen this with you many times and respectfully ask if you have ever had anger management

classes. There is no need to answer if it is too personal.
:ROFLMAO: I used to teach such classes. How's that for irony?

However, I don't see anything I posted here as an overly angry response, I didn't call anyone names, I was just outspoken and passionate with my writing because it's important to me. I think we should be allowed to express ourselves. If you could see me I am not angry and am sitting here having side conversations with people who are here watching TV while I post.

Have you ever watched a parliamentary debate while they are hashing out policy points of view? Talk about angry.

Not necessarily. Maybe men who expect women to look like the photos in porn want women to have disproportionately large breasts. But even huge fake boobs and thin wastes, weren't always the norm for nude magazines.

Balance. The shoes are ridiculous. And they hurt.

/not that I would know...

Yeah, they do. I tried them out. At home. Couldn't walk in them, didn't need to. And now they are a funny conversation piece - mostly about how stupid they are and how stupid I was to waste all of 20 bucks (on sale) on them..

Is this dance requiring a high level of physical skill?

Could these dancers not be sexy or beautiful? Is it impossible to think that they could turn people on? Because if we assume that for the stripping business what's the point in being liberally minded and promoting women's equality and self esteem or workplace inclusion?

Those links don't work for me, they both take me to a page with a bunch of clips.
I'm pretty sure some people currently working as strippers have disabilities.

Well now we've opened up a new can of worms. Are shoe companies conspiring against women?

Look, there are market forces at work. Bette hit the nail on the head. If you regulate away strip clubs, there will be worse ways to exploit women, out of sight.

My own limited experience with strip clubs is that they are patronized by 1/4 desperate men with no social skills, blowing their paycheques weekly, 1/4 overage frat boy types, 1/4 married business men who love to look at naked women, and 1/4 people who were dragged their by one of the above.

The women range from beautiful, bubbly and expensive, to aging, desperate, and in decreasing demand. It's demeaning, no doubt. Strip clubs contain people who made bad choices. But not all. I think some have a healthy attitude toward it. I think some men are there for a simple transaction of wanting the attention and fake affection of a real woman, and that helps them get through the week until they can afford it again, or explain their absence to their spouse again. Some women are there to trade on their looks, and their ability to make men feel good. There is no typical body type in that line of work. They are mostly conventionally attractive on some level, with the occasional stunning woman, but it's a sales job. The girls are there to sell private dances, where they make their money. There are lots of sales positions staffed by far more attractive women than you'll find in the average strip club. Some wearing not much more clothing. It's all about selling.

@ChemGal I'm not so sure about that. There may be one or two on earth. It certainly isn't the norm to consider them in hiring practices at strip clubs...but it is the law.
I have nothing to back me up, other than just how common disabilities are, but I suspect it's a much higher rate than what you're proposing.

I get a page of links, but in general, many people can't do many jobs. It is not discrimination when you refuse to hire a paraplegic to a firefighter position. Life isn't fair. Not everyone is born with the same skill sets. I think Pinga tried to make this point with you earlier.

You trade on what you have. And if you are at least somewhat attractive, are outgoing, can dance a little, and are not shy in the least, you can be an exotic dancer if you choose. If you are all of those things, you don't have to do it, but the option is there.

The typical question people ask, and I think you did earlier, is "Would you want your daughter stripping?"

Here's the thing. I hope my daughter is never in that position. Even if we are hit by a bus tomorrow, we have provided for her and her education. She should never have to resort to that. But if for whatever reason she was broke and her back was against the wall, and decided she could hack it, and wanted to turn her life around quickly by making money as fast as she could and saving it, with a plan to get out, it may not be a bad option.

Now that's not a sexist comment reflecting any attitudinal problems in our society coming from the white middle aged male mainstream, at all.
Look, that's just the truth as I see it. And it's a little depressing, but that's my limited experience, tagging along with colleagues.

I think they are mostly depressing places. Where some men only see naked women, I see the desperation. But I just don't think the solution is to shut them all down. There are lots of desperate people, and shutting the establishments down will not make them not desperate. It will make them more desperate.
