We have tulips and crocuses starting here but no flowers yet. And the chives are coming through the ground. . . the first baked potato of the season should be soon!
 
Yesterday it was warm and sunny here and I had coffee outside - twice!. I noticed that the day lilies have just started to pop through the dead leaves. The first wren serenaded us as we sipped which was most enjoyable.

Today it is chucking wet snow proving that this season of early spring would be more accurately called Sprinter.

I planted a beautiful forsythia last year - one with variegated leaves. I happily took a look at this week & see that it has wintered well - so hopefully I will see some blooms this year!
 
I think that all my Jacob's Ladders are gone again. There is something about them that the little critters in my yard seem to love. The first time that I lost them I wasn't sure, but, given the selection again this year to two different plants, I am fairly sure that if I go with them again, I will have to ensure that I have deterrents in place.
 
Squirrels are terrible with tulips. They dig up the bulbs and will even chomp on the stems for some reason. . . they don't even seem to eat the stems. When they do this the blooms are toast!

Try bringing a few branches inside & put them in water and you should get any early look at those blooms.

Since it's just in its first season - I'm a bit reluctant to do so - but could happen - you never know!! maybe just a few small bits?
 
Ooh I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with pussy willows. Outside they are great. Would carry them around as a kid - bad idea with allergies. Now though they sell them at the farmers market. I haven't been to the indoor one for a while but this time of year was horrible for having them shoved in my face. I wish they could do something to encourage all the live plant stuff to be done as people left - and for it all to be in one section, not spread among the other stalls.
