Dick Van Dyke is going to be appearing in the upcoming sequel to Mary Poppins. He's 91 years old. Now, I doubt he'll be dancing and singing like he did in the original (looks like Disney has recruited Lin Manuel Miranda of the musical Hamilton for that) but to still be working at a job you love at 91? Way to go, Dick.

And Dick looks pretty damn good in that interview clip, too.

In this city we have a 98 year old woman who volunteers at the community kitchen. She was my Sunday School teacher when I was six.

Mrs. M's maternal grandmother used to babysit Little M when we were in China. She would have been in her eighties then. She made it to 91 and was still fairly healthy right up to her death.

My Rev's mom will be 100 this year, and although she's a bit frail, still very together and lived by herself until 2 years ago.

My Grandmother is 90. She was very healthy till about last year when she was diagnosed with dementia. But despite the dementia she would always remain cheerful most of the time. She is now in an assisted home living in Bridgewood , we call her everyday to check on her. Food and a healthy lifestyle can contribute greatly to a healthier future.

Welcome Gisten!
Glad to hear about your Grandmother's healthy long life.

Dick van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore were a TV couple. 11 year age difference.

I recall watching the Mary Tyler Moore show in high school. We adored Mary and Rhoda. They were cool. We copied Rhoda's bandana's on the head.

But with Mary's passing I am shocked that she is only 3 years younger than my mother. I could have swore that they were different generations.

Age and mellowing can soften impressions on the mind ...

Then adolescents seem to create a hard state ... something some never get over even as old bores ... Slew foot as licentious? Bit it off as consequence of the encounter with the cougar ... coy (to get) out of there quietly ...

Recently I was delivering Meals on Wheels to sick and elderly folks around my hometown. Various groups volunteer for particular weeks through the year.

One lady told me it was her birthday today. I replied with a grin "Happy birthday. Are you turning Sweet Sixteen today?". Her immediate reply was accompanied by a grin and twinkling eyes "Nope. 39, in reverse!"

When delivering some meals to an apartment block one woman was looking out the window, propped up by her walker. "I'm just keeping an eye on Jim -see - he is over there shovelling out that car. He's 96! I'm 25 years younger and I can hardly walk. That makes me feel bad, but I watch him anyway in case he slips and falls.". I said "It is good of you to watch out for him. Sometimes people are lucky and sometimes not when it comes to getting older eh. I bet Jim didn't get MS or really severe arthritis or liver or kidney or heart disease like some other people.". She wiped a tear and thanked me "Most people don't understand that".

Certainly, there are things we can do to age 'healthier', but it isn't always about our lifestyles is it?

My nephew died of an anurism in his 40s.
Another nephew is strugling with CF and my sister recently told me that she's afraid she will survive her son.
My daughter was in her 40s when she developed breast cancer. I said, "You didn't deserve this." and she responded in wisdom, "Sometimes things just happen."

Live life to its fullest today. We don't know what the future will bring.
