We were celebrating the 100th anniversary of our church, and several former pastors and the bishop were in attendance. At one point, our minister had the children gather at the altar for a talk about the importance of the day. He began by asking them, "Does anyone know what the bishop does?"
There was silence. But finally, one little boy answered gravely, "He’s the one you can move diagonally."
The children were called up to the front of the church on Easter morning. The minister asked them if they knew what the word resurrection meant. One little boy piped up "I don't exactly know what it means, but I do know if you have one for four hours you should go to the hospital."

Even with the VU inclusive language rewrites I sometimes do this. It tells me I go back a long way with the hymn. Ditto for when I know a verse or passage from the Bible in the words of the KJV.In our UU hymn book, many of the hymns are new or adapted lyrics to Protestant hymn tunes and I sometimes sing the traditional words out of habit when it is a hymn we used to sing in my family church.
Q: Why did the UU cross the road?
A: To support the chicken in its search for its own path.
There are some great Unitarian jokes!

Oh, the memories that come from the old hymns, absolutely. I really like Richard Bott's (and others) new words to old hymns.
