Gord, was Mathew correct in saying he was the new Moses or Paul saying that Jesus was the new or second Adam? Or both.
It seems Jesus only mentions Adam once or twice referencing marriage.
AS a statement of fact? Neither. A a statement of faith? Both, depending on how you understand Jesus. Though I am not convinced Matthew outright calls Jesus the 2nd Moses, he onle seems to pattern his gospel after the Moses story.

Exodus 33
Go up to the land of milk and honey, God tells Moses. God promises to send an angel before them and to drive out various peoples from the land.

God declines to go with the Israelites because they are a stiff-necked people and God might destroy them on the way.

Moses negotiates successfully with God for God's presence on the journey. However, God's face will not be seen.

God says, "I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, I will show mercy to whom I show mercy " (v. 19)

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Exodus 33

Today, a God who responds to reason!

Anyone notice that God is starting to sound like a Calvinist? :D

Thanks, makes sense.

Exodus 34:1-7
God instructs Moses to prepare two stone tablets, just like the first ones he destroyed. In the morning Moses is to go up to the top of the mountain, taking care to be seen by no one. Not even the flocks or herds which might be grazing.

God descends in a cloud and stands with Moses on the mountain. God proclaims that the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, loving and faithful.

But the guilty will not be left unpunished. The consequences of their transgressions will be experienced until the third and fourth generations.

Snoopy's Snappy Review: Exodus 34:1-7

The author of this reading knows a thing or two about multi-generational trauma.

A beautiful passage! (y)

In mental health practice, we often saw instances of abuse repeating itself through the generations.

Exodus 34:7 was mentioned more than once in the staffroom. In an odd sort of way, I find the verse comforting because it speaks to a profound truth.

I agree with Jesus as @Waterfall just mentioned in her post.

Sometimes it's hard to find someones true nature when they've been highly influenced. Thank goodness there are those who can help remove the baggage

"The people have become stiff necked," God says. "Leave me alone, so my anger will burn against them and I can destroy them."

Moses advocates for the people and God relents
Moses is the mediator between God and His people ------thank goodness for that--- as God had every right to destroy them for all of their disobedience towards Him after He brought them out of Bondage and has provided and protected them and their ungratefulness is thrown in God's Face time and time again -----

God had Showered them with His Grace and Mercy \many --many times and they just keep Rebelling and Complaining about their situation ----

God again shows His Agape --Forbearance -- Mercy and Grace by listening to Moses"s plea who brings up His Covenant He made with Abraham --Isaac and Jacob and God Relents and puts away his rightful anger towards His Chosen Nation ----

This is the Generational Curse that is placed upon the children from the iniquity of the Father

You can read more here --I just posted this part

"I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me." Exodus 20:5

Generational Curse: an uncleansed iniquity that increases in strength from one generation to the next, affecting the members of that family and all who come into relationship with that family.Do YOU or ANYONE in your family(including past generations):

1. Have a pattern of constant failure?

2. Have a history of untimely deaths and suicides or a large number of people who have died prematurely?

3. Exhibit a high level of anger?

4. Have a high record of accidents or accidents that are unusual in nature?

5. Have a history of abuse such as physical, emotional, or sexual?

6. have a history of chronic illness(repeated colds, long-term health problems, etc.)?

7. Have a history of mental illness that may have progressed through generations?

8. Exhibited any of these personality behaviors: high-control,manipulation, addiction, co-dependency, depression, unforgiveness, or social isolation?

Other than #6 (colds & health problems) everything on this list would be seen by mental health professionals as evidence of multigenerational trauma.

Indigenous peoples talk about the effects of residential schools on subsequent generations as a specific example of MGT.

Agreeing with @ unsafe when it comes to Moses as mediator.

In today's reading God was willing to give Moses another chance after he smashed the first set of stone tablets.

Multigenerational trauma is also called Intergenerational or transgenerational trauma. In simple terms it refers to the passing of emotional pain from one generation to the next. And so on.

As another example, it has been identified in the descendants of Holocaust survivors.

I wonder if the impact of trauma loses some of its intensity eventually? It's interesting that the biblical writers said that the sins of the fathers will be visited into the third and fourth generations.

They didn't say forever.

Family Systems theory takes MGT into account. Anyone remember the poster GUC or his alter ego the squirrel? I believe he was trained in Family Systems Therapy.

The only way to break this curse is by the parents repenting and coming to Jesus who paid the price for our iniquity and sins -----

Isaiah 53:5 KJV

5 he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The cure for a generational curse has always been repentance. When Israel turned from idols to serve the living God, the “curse” was broken and God saved them (Judges 3:9, 15; 1 Samuel 12:10-11). Yes, God promised to visit Israel’s sin upon the third and fourth generations, but in the very next verse He promised that He would show “love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments” (Exodus 20:6). In other words, God’s grace lasts a thousand times longer than His wrath.

For someone worried about a generational curse, the answer is salvation through Jesus Christ. A Christian is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). How can a child of God still be under God’s curse (Romans 8:1)?

The cure for a “generational curse” is repentance of the sin in question, faith in Christ, and a life consecrated to the Lord (Romans 12:1-2)

Well @unsafe we see this quite differently. Often happens, doesn't it?

Thanks for joining the discussion. You always make me think. I like what you said about God's grace lasting longer than God's wrath.

Rev John often pointed out that God's judgement and God's grace go hand in hand. I surely miss his posts on WC2.

This is a subject that is totally avoided being Taught in the Pulpit----why because it is a hard teaching and we only like to go to Church and hear the Minister preach the watered down scripture ---the soft --lovey dovey ----fluffiness of the scripture and don't want to hear about God's righteous anger that we all deserve -----

I wonder how many Parents would Repent and receive God's Gift of Salvation so that their Children could be born in the Blessings of God instead of being born in the Curse of their own iniquity and sins ----?

Remember Jobs friends, who thought he must have done something wrong to deserve his fate? We shouldn't judge, just help IMO.
