Simons Commercial involving assisted death

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

Note: I'm aware that i am getting into a position of responding rather than reflecting.

I will take a break from the thread to allow myself time to reflect..note: I happen to have a woman that was a mentor in her final days right now. It may influence my approach. How she would have loved to have us gather to celebrate the beauty of her life with all the darkness, tears and exquisite beauty

Bell is a company . It does let's talk.
Other companies do PSA's.
And honestly, is it just out of the goodness of their hearts? Because they really feel connected to the mental health community? Maybe that's there but you can be damn sure that having their logo out there and connected to a good cause is part of it, too. Because if anyone needs good publicity, it's Hell Canada.

I believe she had a wrap on her head. O had cancer vibes. Perhaps, like you I see something that applies to me. Either way, she's now going to suffer if she doesn't choose to die. She will also be a burden (implied) and this is a much better thing then spending money and resources on the inevitable.

I don't understand.
Volkswagen was a company that propelled propaganda in favour of the “volk” from
preWW2. I guess you could say “corporate social responsibility” for pushing the popular opinion that the powers that be of that time and place wanted pushed. Whether they were put up to it or adopted it out of their own worldview in already in favour of the popular opinion the govt was/ is pushing - it’s a propaganda tool.

This is propaganda - subtly, subliminally, artfully done or not. Whether everyone involved was aware that’s what it is or not.

A celebration is a wonderful idea. I'd love that if I suddenly became terminal. I don't feel the need to have it as part of a campaign to have a business look better and make money.

Ah yes. Thanks for the reminder.

Disabled people have been used for a bigger agenda all the way along in this process. There’s no way I will trust that a company, a business, isn’t doing that to us too. Who knows how Mr. Simons came to the conclusion and convinced her to do the video - the aesthetics are artistic (I don’t find them beautiful in this context at all) - the video features her but it’s about something bigger - a bigger social context. I don’t believe this corporate exec that the something bigger is doing good and giving back to society. Which society? The one where nobody disabled or ill will be around to be a “burden”? Giving back the cost savings?

I don’t know anything about Bell and the tendency to use social issues for advertising and money making is of. Course always there, but in this case you can listen toMr. Simons himself in the youtube video and he sounds honest to me. Public ( famous) people spread their opinions on all kinds of things using their reputation and their money. This one seems to me well intended.
What bias do people have to question intention just because someone owns/ runs a company?
He himself said that he is a bit afraid about this- it certainly is a touchy subject. And this certainly will get people talking or at least thinking about what he calls the beauty in the difficult things in life, which is dying, in this case.
As you can see at the end, Jennyfer is no longer. So she would not have chosen MAID for mental health reasons. The fact that she was seen in a wheelchair supports the thought that it was a physical illness.
Explaining medical conditions would have taken away from this clip, which was not about why she was having MAID, but about the beauty of her life and death.
In a society in which people do not talk about death, I think this is a contribution. If she would not have mentioned that she will die of MAID, this thead would probably not be happening or it would go about how artfully they express her life.

But she did mention she would die from MAiD and that is very significant in terms of messaging. We are not discussing another video where she didn’t we are discussing this one ‘because’ mention of MAiD was deliberately included in this video. Being in a wheelchair supports that she was disabled, with some kind of condition. From physical illness or not. Not all physical disabilities are from “illness” and even when they are it’s not ok to automatically connect and reinforce disabilities with death in the public mind. Disability broadly is not an illness of society or blight on society, it is part of the lived human condition. This video connects disability with death, and promotes it. Mr. Simons may have been honestly promoting something but it doesn’t mean his vision isn’t harmful.

She would not have chosen MAiD for mental health reasons but after March 2023 would a similar type of video featuring someone who is having MAiD from depression with no explicit mention of why they are dying or if they are terminally ill become seen as positive, and beautiful? Is that where we’re heading? (Or does the general public still need the wheelchair in it to feel ok about it?…cuz that’s fine. /s )

Doesn’t happen very often but a bible verse came to mind with this thread. I don’t even remember what book it’s from. “If all your light is darkness, how great is the darkness?”

If i were to publish a book supported by funds from my business re cervical cancer, would that be wrong?

What nakes the use of corporate money for a PSA wrong?

Am I allowed to receive goodwill for the use of corporate money for a PSA?

False profiteering for the sake of qui bono ... questioning whether someone benefits (more than normal)? It opens a black box that the well done would rather not talk about ...

Alas in another thread of thought I was told that a poster was not to respond to a poster and thus it appears there is nothing but silence from those that were provisions rather than receivers of benefit! Thus muttered and muddled ... so few could see clearly the lies expounded upon ... especially by those controlling the medium! Thus the ignorance key or quis of death ...

If one has an open mind/sol/psyche complex you are dead in the water in a simple world ... thus the heart takes off also ... I am losing it for some polity!

As I've been reading through this thread, I'm also thinking of an old thread about "perspectacles" and how we all can have different takes on the same situations. I think Northwind touched on this - mentioning that as a person living with cancer, she picked up 'cancer vibes' from the film. Kimmio focuses on the MAID issue which is understandable to me. Others mention the comercialization of social issues. Some mention the the celebration aspect of the film & positives of talking about death and celebrating life. I think this is actually healthy to speak & hear diverse perspectives. Where it goes off the rails for me is when the views of other people are disrespected, where conjecture about motives occurs (who can ever know that about another person really??) without recognitions that it is conjecture, and opinion & perspective are presented as "fact".

No, god please no sweetening it up with a cute name like“perspectacles”. Isn’t that just the same as more propaganda? I mean you can, but I can’t feel respect for it. As far as I’m concerned pro MAiD expansion people are a threat to my life and the lives of millions so how can I respect their “perspectacles”? Cancer vibes are there and that’s not cool for a company to put their brand on either. But nobody picked up on the wheelchair as a nod to disability - making her condition deliberately ambiguous - because now MAiD for disability for the non-terminally ill is also legal.. It’s a universal disability symbol as well as an essential need to live for many - and it shouldn’t be associated with a death campaign. Period. MAiD PSA’s are not a public service they’re a threat.

It appeals to those who are proMAiD and reaffirms a feel-goodeyness about death to the in crowd, ignores the risk to millions - and does it just ambiguously enough to be confusing and deniable. As a disabled person facing a world with MAiD expansion with decades of natural life expected to be in front of me in this “new” pro death to the weak world - it’s a threat. And disabled people’s voices need to be a priority over other perspectives about matters of society that concern us.

It’s also the kind of thing that might make health providers more comfortable about administering death to more people. Which, to me is also alarming. No respect for that sort of “public service”.

If disabled people hadn’t had their rights ignored even after the UN raised alarms and before govt allowed expansion to the non dying disabled this ad would not be allowed on TV it would more likely be excoriated, and not a debate - it couldn’t be aired. It would be hateful to millions to do so. Think about that. Think about who you harm with what you support.

Umm

I really should't be surprised anymore, right?

This is all a kind of Twilight--no, a Black Mirror episode?

"Arch!!!"

That's Ide arche ... typical loss of intelligence in a rave ... people do it to other folk ... thus we are phoqued ...

Every which way one turns ... the only way out is the Γ's type ... a darker root! Inverted elle as counter to Attic Greeks ... highstuff ... the grunts didn't appreciate their share ...

Simon's is a contemporary, edgy version of the Bay that sells a wide variety of products, not just clothing. An ad like this would have validated its edginess as a company.

Unfortunately, the ad takes away attention from conditions that can push people to choose MAiD.
