Rest In Peace: tomorrow,tomorrow
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .Josuah 24:15

What is your interpretation of this verse from the bible?

As for me and my house I will serve the Lord - I will follow the Way - I will try to live my life as I believe God intended for people to live in love and harmony with others and nature. I will try not to grab, exploit, waste, destroy. I will share what I have with others - feed the hungry through my church program - buy local when possible - try to remain optomistic - try to be friendly and cheerful and inclusive. Resist evil. Do my best.

So when we were talking Home Schooling etc., this verse seems to say that religion should be taught in the home.
really off track here.

I think of the Sinclair Ross book As for Me and My House which I read several years ago. I didn't know what to think of it at the time. I have since heard it described as "gloriously bleak" which I think is quite fitting.

Well I don't think I can speak for my house but as it goes for me I will serve the Lord. I can only hope that my serving will be seen as Christ-like and others may follow my lead. I can only be responsible for how I live. If we are to imitate Jesus and live a life worthy of being called Beloved then I can say that I can serve the Lord. And if I do this over and over I may be able to influence others to think again of how they live their lives. If I have realized this early enough in my life I hope that the way I live might influence my own "house" or family and that they will also serve the Lord. We are called to be servants so what a better way to live than to serve God through all I do. Imitate Jesus in all we do.

I had to get out my study bible & read more - to understand the context of the verse portion quoted in the opening post. It was quite interesting to me, reading about Joshua's directions to the Israelites, having led them into land they did not own, to live and flourish on properties that had not been theirs. Curious relevance to today's conflicts in Israel. It seems Joshua was challenging them to decide whether they would follow God, who had driven out other people & guided them to this new land, or whether they would follow the ways & gods of their neighbours. He comments later (v 19) that "he is a jealous God: he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins." which is interesting. I think the verse in early question was Joshua stating his own position - to follow the perceived laws of God - as the old testament proclaims them. To me it seems to imply more about necessary obedience than a sense of service to others.
