Sears was my 'go-to' store for bedding. Great sheets, 100% cotton, at reasonable (for the quality) prices. Different, and hard to find, sizes. Sometimes they sold tops and bottoms sepaarately (bottoms wear out while the tops are still good).
Clothing - I found it crowded and confusing; hard to find my style, size and price range among all the apparent jumble. Seelergirl sometimes helped me find some good choices, but shopping alone had me walking oout saying 'too much stuff and nothing that I want'.
Appliances - we bought ourr present dishwasher at Sears. I've never liked it; I have a feeling it hasn't been working right from the start. I wish we'd gotten our old one repaired. For our most recent purchases (washeer and ddryer) we went to Home Depot.
However I will miss Sears. It seemed to cater more to people my age - carried larger sizes (some stores seem to think size 14 is 'large'. IF you could find a salesperson you often got their undivided attention and sometimes expertise (something also missing in many stores).
For a capital city, Fredericton has a reputation for poor shopping. I hate Walmart. Costco has very limited clothing selections - and not for older people. Downtown and business district clothes are expensive.
I actually think the trend will be towards on-line shopping. Like in the old days of catelogues, we will look up merchandise, hope that we get our sizes right, and order for home delivery. Return it if it doesn't fit or look right when we try it on in the privacy of our own home.
