Spent all day in my garden ... removing things that had become rampant, digging out little seedy 'volunteers' that were poorly sited, pruning the roses - they took a beating this winter. Moved more things to my 'guerrilla garden' over on the boulevard by the LCBO ... lovely! Then a long soak in the tub with special epson salts ... hoping to alleviate some inevitable muscle stiffness tomorrow! Swordfish for dinner, a movie, some knitting ... and tomorrow is mother's day too!

My sweet child ordered flowers for me, as she does every year for Mother's Day. Although this year, they haven't shown up. Were supposed to be delivered yesterday ... nothing. So we hoped for today ... nothing again. That company is gonna get an earful from her ... customer service is her strong suit and she doesn't abide this sort of thing!!

Garden??? Barbequing?? It started snowing here this morning, and hasn't stopped all day . . .roads are very icy in places. It looks like we got around 4 inches on my grass. I guess that's what happens when you start dreaming about flowers, and gardening, and cabins, in central/northern Manitoba LOL!

oh man ... those ribs look amazing! Lucky family!!
It turned out to be a 4 hour smoke.

Ribs are easy. On any grill. This one is a ceramic charcoal grill, which is awesome for the purpose, but you can do a good job with a gas grill, too.

Choose ribs without much of a cap on the outside. It will only dry out. Mine had too much cap on them, and you can see the dryness of it. I didn't buy them. Then again, most places leave too much cap on the ribs. Some people like it. We call those people "wrong."

Remove rib membrane with the fork trick (Google it), thinly coat both sides with basic mustard for a bonding agent, use rub of choice, put on grill at 225 for 3-4 hours.

You can achieve smoke on almost any grill with a smoker packet. For a gas grill, get some hardwood chunks and put them in foil. Only poke a few holes. Too many holes, too much oxygen gets in, and you have a fire. You want smoke. Limit the oxygen that can get to the wood.

The ribs are done when the bark is cracked and the rack is less "springy" when you flick the end. You'll know it when you feel it.

Follow these directions, and you shouldn't need any rib sauce.

/took a bbq course

Oh no Beloved!! That sounds awful!! Spring has been a little late even here ... and I'm so grateful to get out in the sunshine & warmth! I hope it will soon come to you too.

Thanks for the tips chansen!! My husband spent a whole season trying to perfect his ribs ... but never did zero in on anything spectacular. He does take that membrane off it it - has got that pretty well down pat. I think it makes a difference where you buy the meat too. The mustard is a new thought - and the smoking chips. We have a gas grill, & we did try a little smoker box many years ago - may even have been a diff BBQ then - not a great result. Might be time for a re-do!

And ... finally ... those missing flowers arrived at 9:15 this evening. A beautiful bouquet which I will enjoy! I had the delivery guy check the order - yup, were to be delivered on Friday ... so Saturday night ... well, they were busy, it's Mother's Day you know.

I don't want to adult today. We got rhubarb and strawberry plants from my parents and their neighbours, my sister saw them as she was working in Calgary and drove back home this morning.
I was just feeling uncomfortable, itchy, still having general mouth pain, multiple skin conditions haven't been great. Also getting some shooting pain in my mouth at times. I got into the garden later than I had planned as I didn't want being outside to make everything worse. I managed to get the pea containers filled, I still have 2 plants that need to go into a box, plus I was going to plant seeds, potatoes, brussel sprouts, etc.

Came inside and the freezer motor was running super loud. It had done that earlier this week, but I fixed it just by turning up the temperature setting until it turned off, letting it rest and turning it back on. It was completely fine after. Today that wasn't working. Unfortunately turning to part off to the freezer turns off the fridge too. Chemguy managed to fit most of the freezer stuff into the deep freeze (after attempting to take it all out at once for some silly reason and setting it on the counter above the running dishwasher - Argh!). We found a fridge we liked, it will be more than a week until it came be delivered though so we bought a mini-fridge for the time being (I wanted one anyway).

After all of that I figured there was no way that I could make it tomorrow for my 3 days to treatment. 2 spots in hands failed. Arm was working, infiltrated Chemguy fixed it multiple times but it kept happening. Too much for me, I knew I was going to throw up. Since we were half way and he thought he had it - just don't move, he wanted me to sit there perfectly still. Right. Stopped, threw up, rinsed my mouth so hopefully that doesn't create issues, laid down for a few minutes, got the other half in the other arm.

We haven't had dinner yet. Chemguy's having some downtime at his computer. I would just order a pizza, but I don't think I can manage that yet.

I usually send cards. I should have planned ahead, I was not up to buying them this week. Phone calls will have to do this year.

phone calls are wonderful ChemGal :-) and e-cards are great too! I like sending them to people - I usually use Jacquie Lawson. Hope you'll be feeling a little better tomorrow.
