After the last one in France, the word in my world was that those freezers were poorly secured with default admin passwords. Frankly, they shouldn't be networked and if they are, then they need to be firewalled off from the Internet with access only through internal networks. I am going be interested what gaps these attacks exploited.

As I said to my wife, we may at the point where the government needs to mandate some kind of security certification and auditing for critical supply chains like food, not just for companies like mine storing private data. It is clear that there are security gaps being found and exploited.

Yes, the hackers are to blame, but they are not going away any time soon. There are solid, well-tested way of protecting devices and networks. We need to make sure that companies managing supply chains are using them.

/Ape rant off
From what they said on the news, the problem was these were freezers 10 year old or older often with no more updates available and nobody had imagined this would ever be a target.

I am in the U..S. today...watching daughter's house, kids and dogs for a few days. Weird to be here on such a day in election history. In spare time I am writing a reflection/sermon for a week from Sunday....How do I keep politics out of it?

Which are issues that could and should be dealt with and would be addressed in security audits if they were being done and done properly. And not getting updates is not the end of the world as long as you segment them off and firewall them properly.

For the early risers, coffee is on

Watching the news this morning
Good morning. I swear my time change "jet" lag is getting worse. Woke up even earlier today than yesterday. You would think that I would be getting adjusted by now.

Kettle is on for anyone else needing tea. I am making a pot of Irish Breakfast but Red has a tea chest full of options.

Yeah, up normal time despite watching the election until the wee hours. Ugh.

Good Morning! Thanks to JayneWonders for setting up the coffee. We come together around the Coffee Cart for our daily chat, support, and connection time, over tea and coffee, plus whatever the Wonderbaker has created for us. They have provided for us cupcakes today, in several flavours, for our enjoyment. Some of us are a tad bleary-eyed, having watched the election results from the US. What do you think of it? That will likely be a chief topic of conversation today.
The tea water is hot, the coffee is ready, and a new pot will be started soon; and the cupcakes are nicely warm from the oven. All is ready, everybody welcome. Come join in the fun!

I WOKE to see the end results and went back to rest. Often I find the physical word exhausting compared to the parallel world ...

It often leaves a sense of escapism, thus that abstract sensation ... some cannot get out side their point of existence ... to see there's more to experience beyond themselves ... thus they like to contain and package everything for marketing when it should be shared freely ... thus the break out ... into world of easy communion in the dark ... night peoples?

There is the case of a lot half baked to control things they know nothing about ... I try but they tell me that knowledge is evil (according to some lords over the land) ... options? What of those immersed and out of sight? Obscurities ...

Been busy working on a powerpoint for a speech that i am doing entitled The Evolving Garden(er).
It's an 18-20 minute presentation for a Toastmaster's Level 5 Pathways completion.
I'm liking how the deck is coming together.

It's currently 14 slides

Good morning! Time to rise and shine! Sun should be rising here in about 10 minutes. Looks like a nice day here, hope your area is experiencing a nice day too. Foe those preparing Power Point presentations, we hope it goes very well. For those still celebrating the U. S. election results, lifting a mug to them here as well.
We come together to the Coffee Cart, for chat, support, and camaraderie. The coffee and tea are ready, as is the Wonderbaker's effort. This moning we have banana bread ready for us. The Tea water is boiling, and the coffee is freshbrewed. All is ready, everyone is welcome/ Come in and join in!

There are movements in the world that are trying to move some wealth down but at great costs. The directors require big pieces of that wealth as huge commissions ... that go to un believable places out of the public eye ... generating dark webs ... 3 things in the promises ... and then the poor as fallout !

Many that a perfectly seized cannot observe this ... awesome? One has to stand way back to see ... back stuff ...

The banana bread is just the comfort food I need. Thanks! Watching two geriatric dogs, an 8 year old and a 17 year old have been interesting. I have just enough energy to do it for a short while. But praying extra hard for safe arrival home of daughter and son in law on Sunday. When I asked them ahead...do you have a will?...they said no, but the kids would go to you! (What about the dogs?)

Yeah, once we had the kid, we did wills (and then redid them a few years ago since him being an adult and married changed the picture significantly). There's more than just who gets the kids. How do you handle the estates so there's money to support those kids? A will lets you designate a trustee and put terms around the trust and that sort of thing.

We did that years ago after our first was born. The kids were to go to my brother-in-law's family. My parents were too old to consider, but I wanted them to grow up skiing so I think I had a provision of money in there for ski trips, lol.

While our kids are getting older to the point my parents could provide a home for them without as much work, my parents need help now.

Got a call today, asking how to log into their Chromebook laptop again. Also, does email come to your phone or your computer?

I've tried so hard to bring them into the 21st century, and they just can't operate here. Written instructions don't even work. They'll misinterpret anything.

And now they have an EV in the driveway, being an overpriced paperweight.

I'm back up this weekend to log into the computer, bring them groceries and install snow tires. At least the grass is over for the season.

The "dinner" freezer was getting to be a mess. Stuff shoved in willy-nilly. Items that I had forgotten about.
Cleaned it out, sorted it, and found
-- basil/onion/oil in icecube tray that hadn't been put in bags & labelled. -- took care of that
-- two ham bones & meat scraps -- one of them is now on the stove cooking away. The resultant ham broth will be frozen, then the second one will be done the same. I love a good ham & potato soup.
-- some mystery meat -- no idea -- it appears cooked, so pulled it to figure it out when it thaws. maybe tomorrow nights dinner
-- ice cream well past it's prime

Now the freezer shelves are much better laid out, ready for fall / winter cooking.

The other one's not too bad, as it is primarily a fruit & baking freezer - so all my nutjs, frozen fruit, frozen zuchinni, bread bought on sale, and freezer jam.
It tends to rotate reasonably quickly, so less of a concern.
