I remember being surprised how terrified some of our guests at Five Oaks were by the snakes there.

It primarily happened with rentals as compared to hosted.

Lightbulb: these folks were from countries where snakes kill you.

All of our snakes were garter or milk snakes.

I love snakes. I was a very small child when my dad found me a garter snake to investigate - touch, play with, investigate. I'm aware of the existence of rattlers here and I'm not dumb, and I know milk snakes will deliver a harmless but sharp bite, but I love them - their dry sinuousness.

I had a friend who bought a place near Cape Chin on the Bruce, and I stayed there a few times and helped her settle. First tie up there was no indoor plumbing yet, so you had to use an outhouse. At night. With a flashlight. I sat there wondering if they could be in a corner somewhere. I don't mind snakes at all if they don't mind me, but maybe not in the biffy.

I'm logical. Why would a very sensitive - scent, temperature, vibration - critter, who could live in little caves. homes in the blessed earth, ever want to hang out in a smelly human outhouse??

If, Bette, such a critter we're to get curious about the weird little worlds we humans build. The strangest places are the most interesting adventures
