Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

I was talking to the web and development guy at our parent company on Friday. He volunteers on ski patrol at Boler here in London and skis a lot (including out West now that he has a kid in university out in BC). He hasn't coached racers himself but has a fair bit of respect for the work you guys put in.

Good morning! It is Sunday today, and hereabouts it will be windy and snowy (Those of us who have heard the phrase 'It's snowing sideways,' may be able to see it today.) For the cute newborns and their smiles, the energy of small children, for the weather stories and 'fond memories of winter 2025-6' that we will likely long remember, plus whatever comes up today, will shape our conversations here at the Coffee Cart. There will, of course, be coffee, tea, and baked goodies to enjoy. Today the baked yummies are various squares and brownies to enjoy. The water for tea is boiling, the coffee is freshbrewed, and squares and brownies are warm and delicious. All is ready and we are all welcome. Come in and join the conversations!

Is snowing sidewise contrary to accumulation of the white out there ... will it wash?

Imagine the brilliance, illumination in a world of le ve ... antes? Can we make something of it? My con drawl psyche ... as drew out ... and accused of knowing something in a domain where knowledge is deterred ... well at least latent ... it cometh later? Anon ... past O' ward the alien domain ... as nothing!

Look ... there it wasn't ... come-to them yet!

What is it? No one would admit to knowing ... because of potent DE neighing brutes ... that's De thing ... others move on ... questions?

Piles ov 'M ... but unmentionable !

Well not clearly trans parent ...

Up to its ears in the myth ... dark and mysteriously consuming ... few read the entire thing in the whole! As prior scene ...

plus 4 degrees expected here today. Plus 10 by the end of the week. A bit of rain, midweek. It’s been a mild winter here this year, but there’s still time for a dump of snow to happen. It doesn’t happen every year. The biggest weather problems have been a few wind and rain storms (which are their own challenge). I am not very winterized, because I’ve never lived in a cold part of the country, only visited. This region is a Canadian anomaly, I realize.

There’s salt covering our parking lot and on some roads and sidealks because condensation freezes at night but no snow shovelling needed yet.

Best kind of anomaly, really. I am writing a story (well, hopefully a series of stories) about North America being slowly consumed by a superstorm, possibly/probably supernatural in nature and the West Coast is protected by the Rockies, at least so far, since the storm is centered over the Great Lakes. I.e. right on top of me.

Is A' nom ali ... like out of the ordinary and thus unknown? Some folk say there is no normal and thus a lot of unsettled and material that is unstuck ... like Shakespeare's Global conception ... staged!

One has to get out of here to observe it from exterior visions ... literary stretch ...

Curled up with a good book. It's an old one that i hadn't read "How the Light Gets In" by Louise Penny.

Watching the snow falling out the window. It's a fine snow, it is quite steady now.

It seems the bulk of the snow will miss us. Wondering how others are doing?

Similar here in London. I'll give the driveway a pass in the morning since we are supposed to be getting a delivery from Amazon but I don't think it's as bad as EC made it out to be. Must have stayed further South or something.

Cold here but we didn’t get a storm. In fact…no shovelling today. I walked to the grocery store and the sidewalks were nicer than they have been for a long time. I led worship at two churches and they had their usual numbers out. Then lunch with a friend from childhood days…I call her my forever friend. Such a nice Sunday.

School boards cancelled buses in Waterloo Region. It seems they are calling for high winds, and with this snow, it will be messy on the roads.

Good morning! Monday here starts out cold again, a few more flakes will fall today, 2-3 cm's. And winds, too. Some school boards cancelled busses and/or closed schools for today last night. For those of you dealing with the snow and the winds, stay safe and warm. Some places have been having above-freezing temperatures, which will bring rains instead of snow this week; I kinda look forward to weather like that. Anyway, the Room is ready, nice and warm, cushions fluffed, chairs comfy. Perfect place to sip tea or coffee, and to enjoy the cinnamon buns the Wonderbaker has provided for us. let us gather in spirit round the Coffee Cart, to chat, support, and connect with one another, as we indulge in the goodies. Tea water is boiling, coffee is freshbrewed, and the buns are soft and warm. All is ready, everybody welcome. Come join the fun!

Let us exchange some simple words for a step up in complexity which is move like a downer as when getting into it ...

Is a God word ultimate ... very lengthy with breadth and other dimensions? Resembles a very dark pool ... unseeable ghosts and phantoms ... trucking potions about! Nightly? I met a wee girl child (3 years old) Saturday with that appellate ... cute little bug ... they do grow ... as if I'm matured ...

Too early to tell that one ... Bette? (she's having a discussion on the God name) ... on Tuesday's none-the-less! There they determine the elements of the concern, bother, worry about vast unknowns ... baffling exchanges!

Not quite as cold today. We are heading out to get some shopping in a nearby town (not available here). Will go a bit further and visit youngest son. Be nice to catch up on his activities. Younger daughter (who works on cruise ships) is off to Australia and New Zealand. The 16 hour flight sounds challenging.

Race went ahead in the extreme cold. I was setting the course, dyeing the lines, coaching the athletes, tuning the skis and organizing the bibs. I never felt cold. Not all weekend.

Big new coaches jacket probably helped.

So yesterday at the end of the race, our daughter's ride back to waterloo announced he wasn't driving due to the conditions. We didn't think the conditions were that bad, and the university has a reputation for opening no matter what, so we drove her.

We didn't get away from the race hill until 4:20. Left the chalet around 5. We felt like the only people on the road for long stretches, but conditions weren't that terrible. The roads were snow covered with some drifting and blowing snow, but I was almost bored.

Passed two vehicles well in the ditch. They had help so we didn't stop. There was a tandem transport stuck in the middle of the intersection of 17 and 21, such was the snow depth there. Definitely couldn't help him. Drove around.

We hit Harvey's in Elmira for a quick dinner just after 7. The sign in the window was they were closing at 8 due to the weather. That was ironic, I told them, we were at Harvey's due to the weather.

Back on the road 15 minutes before close, got her to her dorm a little after 8. Then the real fun began. Highways 8 and the 401 were one lane for most of the trip through Milton. Some idiots passed in the deep snow, but most were doing a respectable 80kph and following at a reasonable distance. Only one collision and a spun out transport on the way home for 10pm.

Passed out on the bed.

One of the teams on the weekend were from Mont Ste-Marie. They were staring down an 8 hour drive.

Unless it's moved in the past 36 years, I probably know the one. Worked in Elmira for my last summer job in undergrad.

That sounds like quite the adventure. Glad you made it. It could have been much worse. I am a bit surprised there weren't more ditchings but maybe people were actually being cautious.

It was in a new plaza. Pretty sure it has.

It wasn't really that bad. I wasn’t sliding anywhere. I was doing 60-80 in the 80 areas and 60-90 on the 401, which serves to say it was quite drivable. My greatest fear was the OPP would close the main arteries. One good collision would have done it. Then we'd have been screwed.

You always have that subset of drivers who don't understand the limitations of grip on snow and think they have it, until they don't. We don't usually drive down in those conditions, but we always drive up in them, so I have plenty of experience, and a ridiculously well equipped vehicle for winter.
