This. I had to hang my head in shame and admit Canadians aren't much better when my Dutch friends on another site were going on about the winter driving there (they just got dumped on).

My bad driving story of the week doesn't really involved winter, though, just someone being high-strung and impatient. I was heading back to the office after picking up takeout for lunch yesterday. I was in the left lane, a car just ahead of me in the right lane kept following people ahead of them too close and was slamming on their brakes constantly as a result. Then, as I caught up, this driver decided to swerve around someone making a turn and apparently didn't bother to check their blindspot, which is where I was. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic so I swerved myself to avoid them. The driver seemed to slow down after that. Maybe a near collision put the fear of God into them or something.

The bussing situation is a bit nuts. I always walked right from kindgarten and for elementary school at least, I am pretty sure we were at least a km, maybe a bit more. I should measure it out with my odometer if I am ever in the neighbourhood again (haven't been in my old neighbourhood in years). Dad drove me the odd time but no bussing option. Senior Public (7-8) by contrast was like five minutes walk from my front door. One of my buddies lived right across the street from the school. They were bringing in kids from a newer part of Kitchener that didn't have a school but just gave them bus passes, IIRC. I don't recall school buses at any rate. High school was maybe 10-15 minutes walk. My parents chose their house well when they bought it given they didn't actually have kids yet (they bought it a year or two before I came along, IIRC).
 
Do impetuous drivers pick up on fear other than momentarily?

Thus patience is a indeterminate in an emotionally driven domain ...

I've heard that we need increased passions and thus something is out ...

There's a hard concept! It is easy to thus misunderstand ... hurrah ... may be mistaken as hurrai ... and the rush is on ... read intu it!

Many are good winter drivers, and prepared. As always, it just takes a few to ruin it for everyone else. In slippery or low visibility conditions, I'm scanning the road and my mirrors constantly for hazards, which usually means other drivers. I don't trust anyone to do the predictable thing, which means I don't travel beside people on multi-lane roads, I leave plenty of space in front, and more space in front when I'm being tailgated so I can reduce speed more gradually to give the idiot behind me the reaction time that he didn't give himself.

Everything is about planning ahead and seeing what is likely to happen before it happens. And we don't teach that.

Some say "everything" of that type is god ... is that fickle or impetuous ... as someone said to know nothing I am told I'm like stupid ... and there a baffle or other wall! Thus Mary ponders ... it's in the book! Waht a tale ...

As a young kid the only school transport was for those with special needs. Everyone else walked or rode a bike to neighbourhood schools.. Older kids whose school was further away got free passes for public transport.
Where I live now there are busses going every whichway. The schools are spread around and change every few grades. I have no idea why it is considered a good idea to have little ones in one building, bigger ones in another and teens in yet another. . The result is kids who never walk anywhere and chaos in three areas every morning and afternoon.. I suggested that there should be a parking ban for the three blocks around schools for those who don't actually live there. Apparently many parents believe this would put their child at risk of abduction!

Here, bussing was mostly for rural schools and students when I was a kid. The only time I rode a school bus was for field trips. At least for elementary, boards tried to make sure there was a school handy to every neighbourhood. Catchment areas then got bigger for high schools and bussing was public transit if it was available, which it generally was in urban and suburban areas. Students got cut rate passes. However, nowadays with tight budgets and declining enrollments, it seems to be cheaper to have fewer schools and bus students than to try for that kind of density.
 
Good Friday morning, all! Leg cramps, school bus transportation priorities, and people who don't know how to drive in winter. That last topic could be talked about forever.... But all of these, plus whatever comes to mind today, will show up as we chat around the Coffee Cart. Here we talk, support, and connect with one another in camaraderie, over coffee tea, and baked goodies. Today the baked goodies are brownies and assorted squares for our enjoyment. The tea water boils, the coffee is freshbrewed, and squares are tempting. All is ready, everybody welcome. Come join in the fun!

Thus that fold in deep space ... a place to duck into when disgusted ... un winded? Holly holy ... wheeze ... why me ... reason's unknown! Co implication as complex ...

Some say out chi goes and who knows chigoes? Curious material ...
 
Well it rained throughout the night. Our snow packed driveway is ice. Hope the melt continues to get us down to gravel.

Going down isn't bad, but pondering what coming home and driving up will be like.

My driving skills increased dramatically by doing ice dices..racing on frozen puslinch lake. Souch to learn about different snow / ice conditions.

And it happened again. I was in the right lane coming up on a guy in the left lane, my front was almost lined up with his rear and he suddenly puts on his signal and starts changing lanes. I slammed the brakes and he must have noticed at that point because he pulled back in. I kind of get why he wanted to move. The left lane was backed up something fierce while the right was fairly clear. But that doesn't excuse not checking his blindspot first.

Brought the daughter home from Waterloo for a weekend of coaching. Her profs are good and she made new friends already. First term in the books with very good marks seems to have helped her confidence a bunch.

As a young woman. I bought a fast car and decided I needed to learn how to drive it fast.

Joined a local car club

We did numerous events from solo 1 ( parking lot slalom), solo 2 (racetrack), TimeSpeedDistance rallies and volunteered/assisted at other closed road rallies including national series. Actually met my husband near Sudbury at a rally

Well sometimes rebels are needed in the world.
I remember when my daughter was in grade 5, she and her friend decided to flush paper towels down the girls bathroom toilets and overflow them. They got suspended for 2 days from school. She'd never done anything near to this before or after ( that I knew about anyway), at the time she was shy and very well behaved...today not shy and an amazing woman.
It may sound weird, but I silently cheered her rebellious behaviour ....and thankfully that "rebellious" side soon became a force to reckon with, for positive changes as she grew up.
 
Woke up to +7 degrees and rain. It’s supposed to turn into a mess on Sunday into Monday. So going into the city today for a visit and some shopping. ( flu and covid going around, but nursing home has lifted the isolation now).
The cat is enjoying the catio, looking for the neighbour’s cat.
