Church was nice this morning. There was lots of good music and visiting. I learned that the current minister who served the congregation before she retired was from Ayr and went to Southwood HS. That's where my husband attended and they are the same age. Interesting. One of my cancer buddies was there today. She had some scary symptoms and the latest scans were excellent. She is stable with no evidence of disease. That's so great. Finally, a former coworker from AB who has lived here for 7 years was at church today. It was a good day.

I sat in the congregation today rather than sing in the choir. They didn't need me anyway. I was in too much pain, and just couldn't handle 'performing'. My daughter came (from Michigan), so I sat with her.

He, Him hysterical stuff off the tree ... gone nuts for old fruitcake? It has to be aged I'm told ... from voices in the past ...

Oh no Nancy.

I hope the pain abated

Son and granddaughters came by today and stayed for dinner.

Had fun with them.
It was a nice visit

Now doing a jigsaw puzzle

OK, my coaching course.

I was last certified as a coach in about 1991. Not joking. I worked with that certification until about 1999. It was only an entry-level certification called Level 1.

Because my certification was so old, I assumed I had to start over with the new entry level course, the "EL" course that's meant for coaching 6 to 11-year-olds. I will be coaching 14 to 15-year-olds, where I'm supposed to have the development level certification, but we don't have enough "DL" certified coaches, so an EL will do.

I am stoked. I love this stuff. I'm first to arrive at 8:30 for the 9:30 EL course, and there is a DL course already gathering that I wasn't even aware was running. So I ask, "Is there any way I can transfer into the DL course now?"

They said sorry, no, I couldn't.

I figured.

So I asked at the office if there was anything they could do. They decided they really wanted me to have the higher accreditation if I could weasel my way in. They suggested calling the Alpine Ontario office.

I went back to the guys running the DL course. I explained I needed that course. They called the office for me, the office found my old certification, decided I qualified (probably more because my club desperately needed more DL coaches), and was able to transfer to the DL course.

So all the materials I printed were useless. I didn't do the correct pre-course homework, and I'm flying by the seat of my pants for now, but I'm holding on and looking at the video from the past two days, my skiing is up to par. I just have a bunch of homework.

The best part, though, is that I fell right in front of the coaches today. Training run, in a course, not particularly scary one, but my ski tip hit a gate dead on and I got launched. Spun, landed backwards on my butt and whacked the back of my head against the hard snow. I'm hopped up on Advil right now.

After the fall we went through the emergency action plan and I mostly self-assessed. I had no neck or head pain. I knew who I was, where I was, and today's date. I knew current events, though I was thinking Donald Trump was the president elect and that had me second guessing the concussion thing.

Everything stopped as I took stock of myself and slowly got out of the way. The next run was to be filmed and assessed for pass/fail on a necessary skiing component. I was told my skiing before the fall earned me a pass already, but if I felt well enough I could do the official video run. I did the run. Lots of candidates failed to complete the run. It looked easy but was quite technical.

This is that run:

That was the course that launched me. Seriously. Seems I can fall anywhere.

End of a long day and the accumulation of -ish. Up with the intent to pick up daughter for 8:50 for breakfast at 9-ish. We got there at 9:25, modified our ETA at grandma's to 10:30-ish. Left grandma's at 11 (a five minute drive away). Still good, George has instructed us to be there for 1, and eat lunch before so that grandma doesn't starve. We get there at 2 and George doesn't arrive until 3. The -ishes add up. lol. Nice family gathering, in great weather for this time of year, overlooking Lake Ontario, which today looked very summer-like, bright blue, not even choppy. This is my late ex-husband's family. Lovely long day but intensely people-ing for 13 hour is hard. And coming home to quiet emptiness is lonely.

Good morning! For discussions of fruitcake, church experiences, grandkids and crosswords, coaching training times, and family schedules, plus whatever will come up today, we gather round the Coffee Cart to pull it together into some kind of order. Through chat over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, we find mutual support and care. The coffee is fresh brewed, the tea water is ready, and the cinnamon buns and fruitcake are mmmmmmmmmmmmmm awesome. All are welcome, all is ready, come join in the fun!

Yesterday in church, the choir and several guest musicians offered A Winter Rose. It was absolutely beautiful. The Advent services have all been lovely this year.

Sometimes I wonder how anyone lives without religious faith but I know this is silly. I have a friend who wonders how I live without an interest in American politics. Or Canadian politics for that matter but I try to pay attention to what's going on.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm fruitcake is definitely worth trying. Now, if it was just mmmmmmmmmmmm fruitcake, that'd be a hard pass

Clementines are always associated with Christmas in my mind. Darn! We didn't get any this year. Does anyone have a virtual mesh bag or carton of them to offer?

Husband is out buying some now. I’ll share. I need them for the fruit pizza I plan to make. And for one picky grandson who doesn’t eat much but will eat clementines.

Our Christmas used to include mandarin oranges. The ones available now don't have the same epic taste. Not sure I've ever had a clenentine

All this talk of oranges......I hadn't even thought of them yet and now I'm thinking it would be good to have some. Hubby is going out this afternoon so is going to pick some up.

Sister already talked to someone at the bank. She was told the man assigned to this case is the only one she can speak to. He had emailed her on Thursday saying he wanted to connect with her. No connection has happened so far. He was away from the office on Friday. Yes, I know this is a tough time of year to sort this stuff out. Still, if you say you want to connect with a customer do it. She has left three voicemail messages and has sent one email this morning. I'm not sure how she'll handle it if he continues to ignore her........ I was never impressed with that bank and am less so now. And yes, I know this crap isn't unique to one big corporation. Sadly.

Took time today for WC2. 15 hour day yesterday for a tour to the Arenal Volcano area. Got soaked several times in the rain forest and the resort with nine hot pools courtesy of the volcano. Heading down to the pool now that part of it is shaded from the sun.

Well another business day has ended for the jerk in TO. No contact. My sister is going to talk to the man at her branch to see if he has suggestions
