It's that freedom that's kept me UCC. If I can't question, I don't belong. I do suspect we're a rare congregation whose Faith Formation & Christian Education team is led by a non-theist.

It's that freedom that has informed my decisions when checking out a new to me congregation when we've moved.

It was way back when I regularly attended and then became a member of a UCCanada church that we were taught not to question what our Minister had to say. Part of that may have been because we were just kids, and part of that may have been because we had not the best Minister, who had a scandalous ministry among us.

None of my Baptist pastors ever had a problem with people asking questions, and I also now welcome being asked too

We do not have a questioning congregation. Seldom is there discussion afterwards. When there is, I'm happy...I love the thinking part.

Seeking and questioning wasn't a great part of the congregation I attended for a while. I was frequently surprised by how little familiarity many had with Bible passages that I grew up with. Mostly it seemed to be a social group. Lots of fund raising for various good works.

We do have congregation that likes to think. There are several retired ministers among us. We will have a new minister in February and the name of the person will be announced on Sunday. I know who it is and look forward to seeing how ministry change will impact us. From what I know of the person, they will trigger thoughts.

Whereas the UU fourth principle, "a free and responsible search for truth and meaning", pretty much mandates it.

Key word "responsible" is onus ... does it carry well? Not for those that corrupt the understanding of the exotic ... there are so many alien things!

I take part in a group of renegade ministers from differing denominations (me being the only cursed scientist). The observation is that we are all hungry for knowledge while the stone-fisted see private advantage in maintaining ignorance in the populace ... is that stupid? What does exponential stupidity do for the gathering? It is like The Old Man Against the Sea ... something will be consumed by the storm. It is a mental conflict that must be looked into ... and the powers wished you wouldn't ... because alas, you might learn something and the support can collapse under the theme of avarice ... a theory? Recall this all takes place in the Eire (space) of the psyche (a bit of a gas) to those observing from out there. Exotic perspective ...

Often the stoned bull, canon and donkeys can not go there ... this is the nature of fixed matter, extremely hard, yet some ancient populace managed to cut very hard stone for physical constructs it is said. The other side said; "get out of here"! Some got up and was gone ... a myth of vast sensibility as expectation! It may only be a dream is some visions of how humanity is flawed regarding what should be done with the sol, mine, psyche complex ... often sold as the expression goes "the peddling of sol ..." it goes on ... and obviously departs us ... what happens when the light departs down here ... the darker side erupts and dreams run free as black horses ... iconic!

There is much to be said for what is in and behind such expressions and exponents. Many of the congregations I've encountered wouldn't question anything for fear of catching hell from the leader. Then many a leader fears catching hell from a staunch congregation ... thus learning is an inhibited process. Someone in our circle said that you must feel out a congregation for approximately a year to find out what creature is buried within. It resembles spectrometry in science to study how lights interfere and reinforce to form waves. These are measurable if you are creative (abstract, temporal)! You may have to go somewhere quiet and dark to contemplate that out of sound of the raging tongues about the vale of ignorance and innocence ... kerygma? The conflict is often black and white where the gray matter is eliminated ... twilight Zona's. Some say zoans, other son'ETs and thus the Cantal Libre! Distant light on the breeze ...

It is suspected you can't get there from here if hard set ... an absolute or determined, other words? Thar chi blows ... superior Nova (NU Wah Eph)! Personality on the go ... as a dead ringer ... fin' aph orism! How the gods of wisdom hide thought ... words that are difficult understanding like alpha or aleph are just beginnings ...

Initiating query about exotic .... so much to learn from looking into the porcelain ... Chinese Johns ... eastern common sense! Homoeotic ... forerunner of wholly healing ... body and sol? That's 'n Tyre ... and goes round ... like pier, or pyre ... a leer, or gawk! That'll do ...

I respect your position Bette but I am curious. What makes you as interested in the Bible as you are?

And what is your position on Jesus? There are so many ways we can view the guy. I have agnostic leanings myself, but I take Jesus seriously and cannot ignore his belief in God.

Good morning! Seems yesterday's conversations centered around differences in belief, congregations' reactions to questions and questioning. Upsetting to some, yet for others, asking questions in the search for truth is the main purpose. May we continue to search for truth, and support others in their search. The search can continue here, over coffee, tea, and brownies. Come join in the conversation. All is ready, all are welcome.

Yes indeed @Redbaron

Some of our members might think we should take these topics to R & F or Church Life. And leave the serious stuff out of the Room.

Personally I am okay with some serious talk in these social settings (on WC2 and in RL.)

Well, maybe not the game threads such as the 5 word sentence. :)

I think the Room has room (hah hah) for some serious conversation. Game threads are for fun, though, and should stay that way. I called the forum Fun & Games for a reason. :giggle:

Good morning. We seem to be back into Fall here after a warm spell. Another day, another string of meetings. Sigh. Sad thing is, I called most of them. Yep, an introvert filling his days with meetings. Yeah. No wonder I am tired and cranky by end of day.

Then there is the matter of sublime ... said to be a rather vaporous concept! This agrees with Freud who felt that mankind was mostly a mass of vapor or hot Eire! Jung countered this with the perspective that there might be an icon , or archetype hidden there. Possible given the lady of luck!

I need some luck today as I assist in leading a group to shut down a church that was too self involved to observe what was out there ... too much for them I guess, given the imposed fears and paranoia from past leaders with marketing processes that were rather obscure ... explaining away the black horse concept as something in the shadow of night. It forms a picture in my mind like unforeseen rider, Santiago El Grande as a dark generation on a white horse syndrome ... wispy projection. The black being absent or abstract we are left with three absolutes; white, red and yellow ... Uriel to the end ... HP as sauce?

No doubt someone will make something of that ... it is a serial crime to learn anything in a phun game ... thus learning slips away as everything comes to the top as superficial ... and the world becomes seriously cold after the explosion of mortal life ... preparation for what. etc.? Nein pointer ... just another go round ... Mariah function ... storming fey thing ... Danielle? Like shade under a bush in the desert ... dam pspot! Incarnates as whetted ...

Even the mire though of paying some attention can create vicious hostilities ... viscous? That's tacky ... and something once initiated hard to get out of ... some say destructive to the core virtue ... true words in reality gone in a stroke ... ا (that's Arab alef) with a hamza beneath that's ! issued when crossing the line ... and a sign of how Islam marked the Iberian Pen. The darker side of grand pas s ions ... Tan go? Related to tattoos that also are signs and marks ...

Beware of the lady with skull and crossed bones ... she's possibly searching for a pecking order ... just tapping out the time ...

We are returning to fall as well but frosty weather is yet to arrive. The forecast for Halloween looks quite mild which is always nice.

Yeah, we aren't back to frost yet but looking at the weekend forecast, probably Saturday and Sunday night. Clear and lows close to or below freezing.

It is another gorgeous day here. We had the red sky at night yesterday. Actually more pink and orange but it seems to have done the trick. :)

NB water tables are MS construed and none of the authorities give it an Oz of recognition ... blinded by tiers of know-it-all ... no base understanding at the core ... I expect we are in for large burn overs ...

Libra is here but potentially far too much as afterthought by those chasing power alone ... little of the base, thought!

My friend who was going to use MAID died last night. She lived with metastatic breast cancer for over ten years. The last year or so was tough for her. I hope she's at peace now. It's a cruel disease.

The annual welcome back BBQ at the park is this afternoon. We've met many new friends so far this year and have reconnected with old friends. It should be a nice event. Hopefully the weather will be cooperative. The forecast is good.
