Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Good morning! International communications possibilities, doctors who will probe a little more, readying to move to Kelowna for a bit, and all kinds of other things in mind. Yes, the last few days here have been stressful for a lot of people. Let us gather round the Coffee Cart in spirit and debrief, vent, support, whatever we feel is needed. All is ready, still some salmon sandwiches left. Come on in and join us.

While we wait for the coffee cart, does anyone remember the game we played where you picked two consecutive posts in Latest Posts?

Today I spotted:

The Original WC
Towards a New WC2

Pours a coffee, while I await a new toilet to be installed, no set time just whenever they get here today sort of thing. It's like waiting for cable, lol!

I keep having this window say my data is being tracked ... what do the populace expect of cookies and such crumbs? Just detailed ...

This reminds me of the time we had two toilets not working well in our house. My son, who is a pipefitter by trade, and handy at many, many things, was visiting from out of town. He said...Let's get you new ones, and within a few hours he had two new toilets installed. I felt like I had won a lottery....so happy.

We had a bathroom renovation done almost 20 yrs ago. They installed a water efficient toilet. Works fine but not recommended by me.

I've had many comments about them requiring repeated flushing's ... to trump what's pooped out! Even the man that plumbed that lie should be flush ...

My builder put in a bit of an oddball make and model. Getting parts has often been a pain. They do work well but not sure how they rate for water efficiency. I'm thinking not well, actually. They seem to use a lot of water anyhow.

The new toilet we're getting is a higher one, yay!
Yay, indeed! Low toilets are becoming the bane of my existence as I age. Not that I've ever been fond of them given I am close to 6' tall with fairly long legs.

Well things seem to be speeding up here. We packed up a few unneeded things and took them to a storage unit while we're in Kelowna. Yesterday I cleared the area around the kitchen table which has been my "sewing room" and repository for items that don't have anywhere else to go. For now. That turned out to be a bigger task. The area is tidied and well vacuumed. I didn't find the knitting needle I thought had fallen there. The good news is I found it in a knitting basket today.

And so it goes. It is a sunny day here. I'm going to head out to a laundromat today and hopefully we'll have a fire with friends this afternoon.

Talking about toilets ( of all things). I had a patient this week who spend his youth in Japan. Told me that the households all had bidets and other places would have some kind of water buckets. Smearing around with a piece of paper was rather seen as unhygienic. ( quote). I found that interesting and was actually wondering how that is in China and around the world in general. I remember hearing that in some third world countries that job is done by wild pigs… but maybe that wasn’t true. It made sense to me to understand the reluctance of some to eat pork…
With regards to the height of toilets- those new higher ones are usually 18”, which is only really useful if your lower leg length is not higher than 18”. If you are sitting lower than your knee height, it is still difficult to get up if you have bad hips or knees. Just saying. I don’t think they make 20” toilets anymore but that might be useful if you are above 6 ft.

Thanks for letting me whine here!
After meeting F2F with my family doc yesterday I got to spend the morning getting testing done at the hospital. My doc is convinced 'something' is going on and is determined to get it figured out. YAY - a great improvement on being told that everyone gets a headache sometimes! Right now he hasn't got a strong idea as to what it happening to cause my symptoms. We did a lot of mutual sharing and questioning, which seemed productive. He regretted not ordering a CT with contrast - but I hadn't told him that my brother had a ruptured brain aneurysm and he hadn't asked. Neither of us think this a a big possibility anyway. I convinced him that I wasn't trying to diagnose myself - just seeking info. All in all I thought our meeting was very helpful and positive. One item he shared was that he would be featuring my case at his regular meeting with the other docs in the group. Frequently a colleague will have some useful input.

Wow @KayTheCurler ... you seem to have lucked out in the doctor department. I went to our walk-in clinic last night and the doctor seemed nice, knowledgeable, and interested enough to do extra tests. But....and I don't blame him personally, just the general attitude towards women my age...he said: You are 66, and past menopause, you've lost estrogen, and if we can't figure out what is going on, it might just be something you have to put up with. And I said...Yes, I can put up with it. But the truth is....it is a problem that steals hours of sleep from me, and affects the quality of my life. Shouldn't health care help me cope better, even if I am an older, post-menopausal woman?

That sucks Nancy. If you have some thoughts about what might be going on I think it OK to ask "I wonder about this or that'" Whether it is an ailment or a style of handling it, the doc's responsibility is to keep you in as good a shape as possible. Sometimes docs say conventional things that aren't helpful, and need to be told that (gently or firmly). You really aren't very old - I know lots of people in their 70, 80's and older. They, and you, deserve the best health care available. Have you had a bone scan to check for osteoporosis? Early medication is better than ignoring it. There are things that can help with waking regularly all night to empty the bladder too. Many people sleep better with a CPAP machine, or white noise. Hope you can push for some worthwhile solutions to whatever ails you.

Toilets in and it's perfect! I'm 5'8" so it's good for me and my partner and boarder. It's got a wider seat, and as my one son used to say, " more room for my junk", how crude is that? Lol!
The boarder prefers to have a bidet and asked if he could hook one up to the toilet plumbing, told him if he knows how to do it properly to go ahead, but he never got around to it. I actually would prefer it myself if I had the choice, it does seem more sanitary.
Sorry for all the potty talk talk today, but life happens.

Toilets and tracking data and bidets. Oh my.
Good morning! We made it to Friday, for whatever that's worth. As we think about washroom renovations, comment on various aspects of height, width, and water usage, as Big Tech tries to peek over our shoulders, let us gather round the Coffee Cart in friendship and conversation. All is ready, come join in.

It is supposed to be a little warmer here today. So...I might scrap the winter coat for the moment, but not ready to put it away yet. Last night my husband and I made supper for a friend, delivered it and ate with her. It was fun, although I always stress about my cooking abilities (or lack thereof). We brought the goods in a laundry basket...carrying pots and other containers of food. I had to laugh at this mode of transport: We do it when we bring supper to my mom's too. So -- from toilet talk to use of laundry basket talk.

Looked after my granddaughters this aft, including meeting the bus for the oldest. Poor thing was under the weather. Been a while since i was settling a sick 4yr old.

After Tylenol, fluids, a nap, and cuddles she started to be herself.

We had fun playing a new game.(to us)
