Working on a design for a granny square afghan. I want to do a combination of solid color blocks and traditional multi-colored ones.

Fewer ends to sew in this way.

I sure hope it's still okay to be silly around here.
It is quite fine to be silly in here. I frequently am. No issue, just that there's rarely arguments or insults in here so posting about them must come from elsewheres.

No, posting that statement had no basis on what happens here. It had nothing to do with anything else. Maybe poking fun at myself and my apparent reputation for getting into arguments at times.

Really? I wouldn't have tagged you with that reputation myself.

Just found out that one of my employer's old grognards passed away. He was an early employee who was still around for a year or two after I started. Bummer.

This morning's reading reminds me that in many places it is still winter - and cold - and snowy - and icy - and in general, depressing. I need to go grocery shopping and my guy is feeling poorly and won't be available to provide taxi service. My son is getting a CT scan following a fall and substantial bump on the head. Not good news for someone with a severe brain injury.

Nothing to add to the arguments and general grumpiness!

I'm having a lovely day here. Scored two more legs of lamb for the Seder dinner, so five lamb legs and a brisket are going to serve 51 people. All I have to purchase last minute (tomorrow) are spinach salad fixings. Also, in an amazing find, a pair of unworn Clark's loafers at the Thrift shop, in my size.

Weather is grey but pleasant, cool at 8 degrees, but supposed to be double digits for the long weekend. The big guy is rather amazed by the number of services we attend this week, but he's coping. He's not sure about Thursday's 3 hour dinner, complete with official Jewish Seder Haggadah, but he's game (or in love).

We did that at the Unitarian fellowship once. Our minister of the day was a convert from Judaism (who grew up in the US South so was fond of Gospel music, go figure) so she was able to keep things a bit authentic.

The sun has come out here! I've been down a bit of a home reno rabbit hole the past 24 hours. Started with noticing recently how very cold our sliding door to the deck is - hmmm - we should consider replacing this - it is about 40 yrs old after all. A bit of looking ensued. Hmmm ... Green Home renovation grants ... might get some money back. But have to first do energy audit - $450+tax. And then a post work audit - another $250 + tax. But if you do some qualifying work - "up to" $600 of that audit is rebated. How they decide the 'up to' is a mystery as yet.

Well, in for a penny, in for a pound as they say. Had also been thinking about adding some blown insulation to the attic - might as well do that now & get more $$ back, right? So the amt of rebate is dependent on how much R value you begin with - so tomorrow an insulation estimator will climb into the attic at 9AM. Hmmm ... if the start level is <R12 - the max rebate is about 3x what it is if over R12. The suspense! And I've learned that blown cellulose is now the preferred substance - made from recycled newspapers! So that's a favourably green option.

We visited 2 door places today - we liked the first which came in at about what we expected. We then visited Pella - hahaha - we didn't like the doors as much and they were at least 3x the cost of the first! I also learned last night about Cardinal Neat Glass - which is new technology that makes it kinda self-cleaning! So smart for some places! So those are my bits of learning this week!

We replaced some of the windows in our house in Calgary with Pella windows. One of the casement windows was shipped twice with the wrong jamb. The installers had to cut the jamb themselves. The last two windows we replaced with different windows.

I did that about 12 years ago on one the houses. I think I had to call the Energy Guy for the evaluation. He sealed the entire home looking for drafts. The whole process went fairly fast, and reimbursement was fast. I didnt do everything recommended but it was good to know what to save up for next. Always good to look for government Grant's on the web page.
