We had similar staff appreciation events in hospitals where I worked.
My employer does a lot of them. Gifts, in particular, but they will occasionally spring for lunches and that sort of thing. We used to have an annual party but that got snuffed by a combination of budget issues and the plague of 2020.

My boss is minge-y as hell. Gift card for Xmas (I like it when he has enough taste not to make them PC gift cards, lol). Some of the more awful campaigns in which we're supposed to participate (the PC Children's Charity is particularly cringeworthy), get incentivized, unsuccessfully, with gift cards. BUT, this year, again, we get a 10% discount every Saturday, so I shop on Saturdays, often for the Big Guy's house as well (fair enough, as I eat far more there than here).

Just came in from a great campfire with friends. People who were disruptive around midnight last night have been asked to leave. They will be leaving in the morning. :)

Oh my. Coming from a book study I initiated in my Quaker group. We have a new participant. She is into zen, freedum and anti vax and went as far as declaring that government was about to put the unvaccinated into concentration camps. The dead bodies we saw on tv have all been fake pictures from years past. All the while she was preaching about the zen way of “being open”. This is going to be a challenge. She also likes Trump and thinks the media have plotted against him.
I am very angry about conspiracy believers who belittle other people’s suffering. Oh, yeah, she also talked a lot about suffering from a zen perspective and the ego she is successfully overcoming using zen.
I don’t know anything about zen, but my hunch is, it hasn’t done her selflessness much good yet.

I appreciate the spelling of doughnuts. I don’t see it spelled that way very often any more.
That is how it was written the first time I saw the word. It looks correct tome as they are made with dough. I don't have many left now the three adult kids have left for other locations for the evening! Sure was cool having the bustle and friendly banter going on for a while.

Good morning! As we ponder building blocks and enjoy doughnuts, knitting and campfires, pub groups, the 'bonuses' some employers provide, and a host of other topics, let us gather round the Coffee Cart, for community and conversation. We also have a few doughnuts, and even some donuts, to share as well. All is ready and waiting.

Funny, for those disbelieving evolution, how words change shape over time and distance (perhaps as light years).

I found in a dictionary (once known as a lexicon) that ego meant awareness at one time. I could be self aware, or su ware, or a greater super ego as it echoes through space. Then people have been discouraged about space so that they wouldn't expect to experience one of their own. Thus we go down ... none other that the abyss of the human seware

Our Giant Tiger has been carrying paczki since early in March. They are a bit different from a donut, but the guys enjoy them and so do I

thus sown as a rabid hole. These may simulate black vacancies on the page that powers will discourage common folk from reading into for fear they will descend into what ever is covered on the page boy (once a Yeoman) and from there all good sense rode off like the psyche of strong bollocks. There they hang in limbo having not learned anything Beta ...

The edifice folk can not be ray edified and thus sit in the dark beams howling at strange things in the dark ... that cannot be observed because of fixation, pious nature and limo ... then the fruit falls from the tree ... as intended for the myth to descend upon psyche ... assumed to be a non construct, but it wasn't how it appeared as its other side was chimera ... it went on quite a bit as a chit!

Even astrophysicists are questioning the shape of deep space and whether it might invert ... additional domains that we, well, just don't know but individuals as autonomous believe they do and will tell you how it is for their agenda ... and screw any piece of the agenda that you grasped ... as lessen in colloquia!

So much to question in what is left from the rite you 's failures ... and in a study of psychopathy on delusion they have some indication that the autonomous autistic have difficulty differentiating between I and you. Giving that Ji used to serve for I-eh (IO's) can you see Jesus diminished in the light of a Roman flame? Thus words do creep some folk ... and they refuse to read into those dark squiggles ... that's the word on fear causing some folk to see red and others to drink until into the dregs of the mind! Like heaven it may be a mental state!

Just a quick drop in to say hi. Busy days ahead for a whole lot of reasons. But I just got a notice to go for jury duty/selection in April...Could make my life busier or actually calmer if I only have one thing to focus on! There are many interesting threads here I will eventually catch up on. But I also need to do some reading about this whole Chinese interference in democracy thing. I don't get it but then I've just been reading headlines. Time to knuckle down and see what all the fuss is about.

I am confused and decided to drop this beside the Wonder Fire for discussion.
One of my younger generation (24, F) developed a fever of 38.5 and occasionally 38.6, but doesn't claim any other symptoms. After four days she went to her doctor who ordered blood and urine testing which were apparently fine. She was sent home and told it would pass. After another four days she returned to the doctor because she is tired of running an unidentified fever. The doctor was quite rude and told her to go away and not return unless she gets a significant new symptom. She went to the ER a few days and didn't actually see a doctor as her condition wasn't considered serious enough for that location. It is now 14 days of this and she is asking for ideas for how to get better, how to get her life back on track or thoughts about what the heck is going on.
Any ideas folks.

Maybe her thyroid is over active. Her immune system might be over reacting to traces of the remains of a virus. Might be allergies. Has she tried acetaminophen? There are many possibilities for persistent mild fever. I hope the blood test included white blood cell count. It might be hormonal.

Just a guess, wisdom teeth?

I hope your younger generation member feels better @KayTheCurler

I'm sitting inside knitting on a rainy day. I am knitting a sweater for Mr Northwind that I sort of started in 1999 or 2000. This is part of my destash mission. It's about time it gets finished.

We're heading out for a "Last Supper" with friends in the park. A couple of the couples is leaving at the end of the month. One couple is from NB and won't be returning next year. I haven't been to that restaurant in a while. It's a classic Canadian restaurant. The kind that's full on Sundays after church and that has a good variety of food in their menu.

Thanks for the responses to my fever concerns. To me, the biggest problem is her doctor. Google can give hints at possible diagnoses but they need medical testing and consideration. Blood and urine testing indicated there was no infection. She doesn't know what, if or if anything else was checked on.
If I lived closer I would happily escort her to an appointment with her doctor - might even make it in my name if the doc is being difficult about seeing her. I was already grateful for my doc but this improves my respect for his diligence.

Does your dtr live anywhere near a larger centre that might have a women's health service? One can sometimes go for comprehensive health assessment at such clinics which can be very helpful.

It might be useful for her to keep a bit of a daily 'chart' for herself - measuring temp at consistent times of day (should prob take it at least morning & evening it can fluctuate), noting any medications taken (what? how much? when? response?), any aches & pains or other symptoms (fatigue, nausea, rash, night sweats etc). This could help the doc substantially in making a correct diagnosis.

Does the blood lab she went to for tests have a way for people to access their own results? Mine does, for a smallish annual fee & it can be helpful to see if lab values are changing over time - also will help her know what has been requested & she can print results if she goes to a new doc for opinion. Being well informed is now necessary to be a good healthy advocate for oneself.

She has been taking her temperature morning, noon and night. It his been consistently either 38.5 or 38.6. She isn't on any meds, has no identifiable symptoms other than feeling feverish for two weeks. I'll ask i fshe can get a ride into her closest city, or speak with someone at a Womens Health location. That is a helpful suggestion.
