Same here. One special turning point was when I paid someone to replace a rad hose and found that not only hadn't he done that, he trimmed it back too short and clamped it back. Looked like it would pop off. Then he forgot to replace the coolant when he was done! Car needed a new rad anyway, so I dropped that in myself. I was never comfortable jacking up the and car doing anything under the chassis though. I had a car dealer actually get irate when I took a test drive and I listed what was wrong with it when I brought it back.
I also replaced a toilet and other various plumbing jobs. There isn't much I won't tackle if it's reasonable, although at my age, I'm usually happy to pay someone. I also worked as a CNC machine tool setter/operator a lifetime ago.

You sound a lot like my baby sister, who will tackle a lot of things, solo. I am a bit more restricted, because I'm not as mechanically inclined, and I have substandard upper body strength even for a woman. What I'm good at is identifying the problem, and too often, telling someone else what to do. And the hippie and I worked well together on projects like stripping hardwood down and sealing it. He did the muscle stuff, I provided energy, for sweeping, etc.

I think I've been pretty lucky with trades guys, but honestly, the plumbing mistake that the guy who put in my downstairs bathroom made cost me a lot of money down the road. He meant well enough, and he wasn't malicious, or trying to gouge me, just a bit not forward thinking.

Good morning! Continuing to think of dissolving organizations, its finances, and all the emotions and turmoil that such decisions entail. Also admiration for those who can 'do things' around the home. By the way, it snowed here last night. In fact it's still snowing. Anyone who doesn't think they have enough snow yet is welcome to come and get some.
Anyway the coffee cart is up and running, come on in and enjoy the company.

Oh the plethora of spatial skills ... and then there are those that don't get IT because they have no wish to do so ... thus they loose the opportunity!

It works both ways as a duo between the point made and connectivity ... some say affiliative disorder! Say nothing that is ordered because the bulk wished disorder initially ... tis a peculiar thing know!

Hi, @Seeler and Helper. Hot rolls sound great and nice to see you here.

By the way, it snowed here last night. In fact it's still snowing. Anyone who doesn't think they have enough snow yet is welcome to come and get some.
You must be getting more than us. It's sunny here this morning and we really only have cm or so on the ground.

Probably last load of yard waste is at the curb. They usually come Thursday or Friday. With snow on the ground, not going to be doing much more yard work this year. Do need to do some cleanup in the garage in the vain hope that I might actually have a car for other half of it (my new Civic remains perpetually on "Back order") some day.

I have the kettle going for tea. Anyone else?

Later, alligators.

Yesterday we had close to 10 cm on the ground. It has settled to about 6 or 7 cm. Lots of ice in parking lots and some sidewalks. Almost 0.

We had another 6-8" overnight, and it's still snowing. But it's light fluffy stuff.

My project today is to go over to the big guy's and have a baking bee in preparation for the Fabulous Food Fair on Saturday. I'm making two pans of mincemeat squares and 2 or 3 cranberry almond loaves. I think he's picking up cake mix and icing and making cupcakes. (I think I'll just refer to him as the "big guy" here, as that's what he is.)

*Waves happily at Seeler & Helper* So nice to see you in the Room, Seeler, dear. Those rolls sound delicious, especially with a pat of sweet butter or a dollop of homemade black currant jam.

Wow a man that cooks....bonus!

Hello Seeler...thosr buns will be lovely with my coffee. I'm very happy you have a helper to assist you with getting here.

The fog warnings have lifted and today is the first day in a few days that we aren't enshrouded in fog. Things are looking good for an outdoor craft sale I'm participating in on Saturday.

Hi @Seeler and helper those rolls smell delicious.

So, in an afternoon, shopping time, lunch and dinner incorporated, we made:

2 pans of mincemeat squares (think date squares with mincemeat in the middle)
3 cranberry almond loaves
1 carrot bundt cake with orange buttercream icing
22 blueberry muffins in miniature bundt pans

1 failed cake for the big guy and his roomies

All packaged (in bags, tins with lids, etc.) and delivered to church before 8 p.m. It's something of an early relationship test if you can work well together, and we did. Getting good at getting each other's sense of humour so that gentle ribbing doesn't get taken seriously (there was a short spurt of sub-par pan buttering that needed correcting, LOL). And he appears to be totally chill at taking direction in areas, like baking, where he recognizes expertise. Which is also nice. Don't need to fight over everything, LOL. Relationships where you can come to consensus about strengths are nice.
