Sorry to hear abaout your knee & long wait Northwind. I wish Emerg had a slightly different triage system - 1- life threatening; 2 - not likely life threatening but complex (ie will take longer to figure out) 3 - not likely life threatening - quick work-up/review & disposition - get it done NOW and send the person out the door :-) That would be you I think - #3. Sigh. Challenges of being in a smaller place too I suppose - less options like urgent care centre to take pressure off Emerg.

Health Care - also known as Hurry Up and Wait. Sorry you have such a sore leg Northwind - but still hopeful that 'someone' will diagnose and treat it before you starve to death in the waiting room.

In my town medical choices are - try to get an appointment with a doctor. Last time I phoned for one there was a three week wait for a phone call from my doc - a week shorter if I was happy to deal with someone I'd never heard of. The alternate is to go to the ER - the wait could be long or short, the doc could be familiar or not.

I spent four plus hours waiting for no more than five minutes with the doctor. He bent and poked my knee and determined it was merely strained. If it were torn, he said, there would be more blood pooling. He said there was no point doing diagnostic imaging and an MRI would take forever. He said a brace would likely help and to connect with my GP in a couple weeks if it hasn't improved. Big whoopie.

So, I got a knee brace. I think it helps. I also contacted the physio clinic to see if I can get a physio to look at it. I'm on a wait list for that and apparently have a good chance of being seen.

Hopefully it will heal on its own and will be no big deal as the doctor suggests.

Time will tell.

Finding the patience to let the body heal itself is hard.

I have a couple of friends who suffer from ailments, of the chronic type variety. As soon as the doctor gives them the go-ahead to resume "mild exercise", they're at it like bulls at a gate.

And you did well. 4 hours for a sprained knee versus my recent 8 1/2 with fractured ribs. Timing is often everything.

@Northwind - excellent idea to see a phyio about your knee - they know waaay more about knees than docs do I think! I hope you got good wearing instructions re the knee brace - physio can prob help with that too. Heal up!

Thanks. I got a one size fits all brace. It doesn't seem to fit me that well. There's a more specialized pharmacy in FSJ that I may visit to see if I can do better. The physio clinic fits braces. I don't think I want to go the route of having a specially fitted brace at this point. I just need something that will get me through this. If it turns chronic then I'll look at custom made. I didn't feel the doctor really heard me well. I do think the injured hamstrings played a part in this. A physio will be better able to answer that question/concern.

I like urgent care for that but we need more of them. We had one almost in the neighborhood at my parents. Here opposite end of the city.

This town doesn't have an urgent care, otherwise I would have gone there. The BC Peace is not well served

Yeah, they aren't too common. My guess is they would actually save money in the long run but governments don't seem to care much about a 5 or 10 year plan.

Hopefully physio is more helpful!

Oh and as for @Carolla #3 - HAE attack treatment goes quite fast especially if it hadn't been long. Could easily be quick in and out for a serious issue. Even when things aren't in chaos it rarely happens that way.
Once I did get treated right at triage, no beds I think there was someone who was like hey there's doctors orders let's get 1 body out of here.

Sadly things are stretched so far these days some walk-in clinics have had to close. I would have much preferred a walk-in and if I had been at home I would have made an appointment with the doctor of the day at our clinic.

Yeah, same is happening here although there are at least clinics around. I don't think a lot of GPs are great at diagnosing knee stuff anyway, although they may have ordered an MRI or something. I feel like injuries is something urgent care doctors have a lot of experience with.

Good morning! Happy Friday! As we deal with knees and urgent care rooms, and self tests, and the myriad of other things that come up, we gather round the coffee cart, for community, commiseration and conversation. All is ready. Help yourself to another heapin' helpin' of our hospita;ity.

I've thought that they could improve things by having a more multidisciplinary approach. Why are docs the gatekeepers for orthopedic surgeons? Physios may be more appropriate. Psychiatric Social Workers may be more appropriate gatekeepers for psychiatrists. Etc. I'm hoping I'll get to see a physio next week. If not, I'll probably make an appointment when we get home. My knee feels a bit better today. That's a good sign

Efficiency in the ultimate has odd consequences ... the reason for certain failure by times!

At a graveside service yesterday, conferred with an old friend who also had heart surgery. He related that exercise and healing was critical and one should exercise both.
He told of another senior that ask the Cardiologist about using his chainsaw after repairs were complete. He returned to the doctor later with complains that it hurt to cut wood. The doctor expanded on the story by stating one was to heal after the repairs ... one of those efficient oversights ... from there it gets complex for those searching out simple.

In short there is no end to this process of ignorance considering how much intelligence one person can waste ... the hole just gets larger and larger regarding the spatial aspect (when looking in from out-there) ...

Does not fit with narcissi as they are caught up in the glow ... it was a shot story that went bust/buss'd!

Imagine professional administrators getting such lines all out of whack! What does confidence do for the process if one becomes over certain about things extensively unknown like cause Amo's logical matter? These may prove to be immaterial to certain confidence levels in the extremities ... may simulate authority in some perspectives! Me, I am never sure about anything as I look around at reality ... really?

One excellent book intimated that all things should be questioned ... even thyself ... and so many believe thyself to be a near god state ... whack a Mole ah? There ... another one goes underground ... just life groundhog day as we return in hysterical facts to historical overstatements ... hero worship as someone to dream about? Mire incarnation ... all in the sans 've time ...

Can time be used up uselessly when we should have been learning ... it is not in the books due to efficiency cuts ... by a thousand slashes ...

There that's whittled down to a switch ... something for light beatings? And there ... the lights went out ... life eats me ... makes little sense ... considering what intelligence is out and about ... enigmatic and dark!

Do not rush into knowing for as you learn you discover how little you know and thus the effort is lost on you as demented ... and the mental part departs into the unknown parts ... circular logic that you can come back too in the time machine ... said to be part and parcel of mine tunnel of passing ... it too is a void ... some say devoid! Tis a sacred and holy spot ... as so, as too and as always willbe given out propensities to not process ...

Example: can you process that in depth? See anything super vicious ... that's power from seeing red! Then there is that blew lady off in the loch ... out there! The realm of Skye ... referred to in Egypt as floating on hot S'Ns ... burning wills? Ayer ... that's M ... onyx 'd OX toss'n may have the same effect as oxytoxin ... know your pharms and tending Fannies ...

Unok a? Then your intuit ... unseen bindings ... it is all about cults and sects ... occult or just occidental in the bite ...

Distant vision? Can you see IT, or significantly blind 'TU it? Expect impulse ... resembles momentum ... spatial billiards?

Then the thing opens up ... pouch eh?

Yeah I hear you. I'm still waiting on a requisition from June 22 for a genetic test. Why? Province limits who can order it and then makes it very difficult for those few doctors to actually do so.

I had bloodwork done in GP last Friday. My doctor needed it for today. I started chasing it down yesterday with no luck. I finally reached two very helpful women today. I had wondered if it had gotten stuck because I have an old Alberta health care number. Turns out my doctor is not in their system so it got stuck with the people who enter that informatiom. Both women I spoke to were very helpful and assured me they'd get it moving. I was able to get the one number I needed an all is good in that department. I have the meds so don't need to wait to have them released to me this time.

These things can be frustrating especially when they can move with a push. I hope you get what you need soon
