Germany is doing a trial for three month selling 9 Euro (about $13) monthly tickets for all public transportation and regional trains valid in all of Germany. So far, ticket sales have been huge.
This is just so amazing because for the public transportation in Berlin downtown area, one would normally pay 8.40 for a card with 5 tickets ( one way). I am not exactly sure how they are financing it, and there will be chaos as the busses and subways will be super full, but it is an experiment.

It will be interesting to see given that one of Ontario's parties is promising $1 transit rides, including the GTA-wide GO Transit system. Transit fares in Ontario are well past the $1 mark and have been for years. Not that that party is likely to form a government any time soon (our provincial Liberals, who are still recovering from their meltdown in 2018), but it shows the idea is not completely foreign to our system.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. From talks with church administrations, to public transit fares, to vacation plans, plus provincial election day, and a whole lot of other conversations and chats, the coffee cart is ready to facilitate. All is ready, help yourself.

There's mores ... perhaps needing determination as mores indeterminate than not given the stew we appear to be in! Literary supers ... the future will have a fete ... and alter it to fate ... because of foregoing effects ... like Satan matters behind me in historical denial. Mortals forget in such ease ... without depth of mine ... Solomon's Wealth? Imagine it all coming together in the end. That would overload them that didn't wish to know ... thus they blow easily ... like many celebrity types looking for flat Eire imitations ... thus the writ! Tis eclectic ... spreads unseen ...

The free fare zone for the LRT or C Train in downtown Calgary still exists. The downtown businesses would complain loudly if it ended. For those who have not been to downtown Calgary, downtown is between the Bow River on the north side, the CPR tracks on the south side, the Elbow River on the East Side, and 14th Street SW on the west side. It is nine short blocks deep and about 20 long blocks long. Short blocks are about 1/16 of a mile and long blocks are about 1/12 of a mile. The LRT runs east west and most major stores are within 3 blocks of a station.

Thanks! I'm heading to Calgary next month - very helpful!

My mate is up north at a friend's cottage. They had a severe thunderstorm go thru on Tues night/Wed morn with a LOT of lightning that seemed VERY close, and heavy rain. When they got up in the morning, the TV electronics were fried. Then the friend went to start his vehicle (just got it last week, Honda CRV coming off lease, so it had a thorough inspection for 'good health' before being released). The electronics in the car were totally wonky. Not driveable. Has anybody heard of this happening from lightning?

New one on me, but I guess if it actually got hit, stuff could have been fried. Certainly I have seen lightning do amazing, scary stuff to computers when it caused surges through the cabling. And if it is the same generation as my CRV, it is basically a computer on wheels.

Good morning. We're in a completely different environment than where we started yesterday. We see trees out the windows we face from our recliners and mountains behind us. This is a quiet park in a BC valley. Very peaceful

The lightning we see is just part of the electromagnetic field. Even if lightning did not strike close, there might have been a surge in the electrical field that did the damage like this solar storm that fried part of Quebec's electrical grid several years ago. It would be like getting a cell phone too close to a strong magnet.

Yeah, electrical fields are seriously weird stuff, eh.

I gather you don't mean early June. :( We'll be in that area from Friday to Wednesday.
Sadly no - we'll be there in the third week of July. Would have been fun to connect with you! You might want to drop by Hillhurst United Church on Sunday morning @ 10 for their service. That's one impressive church.

My electrician son was just here for supper and said much the same thing! Great minds understanding science :-)

Sounds too much like science .... it couldn't be right ... leaving the stoic with nothing left to speak of ...

Linguistics are like that ... strange etudes! The variance is total ...

Good morning, world! As we think travel plans and ponder electrical fields and their effects on technology, and do a post mortem on the Ontario Provincial election yesterday, let us gather round the coffee cart in spirit, and indulge in hot beverages. All is ready.
