The first "pants" I was allowed to wear to school was when I was in grade 8, and they were burgundy, corduroy bell bottoms. I don't think "jean" material was allowed, although boys, could, of course, wear "jeans".

And in the winter, totally caked with snow, so that they flared, then stuck to your legs, probably facilitating early arthritis.

Whilst your maxi coat also dragged in the slush

And you tried hard not to break your ankles on those platform shoes. I had two rather remarkable pairs. An electric blue strappy thing, separate heel, that I bought in the U.K. And a platform wedge in stripes of light and forest green suede.

And I had eye shadow that matched the shoes, lol.

My very cool cousin had the coolest platform running shoes. Low cuts. I swear they were 6" platforms

Oh and very wide belts. Bell bottoms had to sit on the hips. Accent waist and butt.

My total best friend in high school was a gay guy, totally enamoured with Elton John. We used to take regular day trips to Toronto just to walk along Yonge St. lusting for the platform boots.

Wow. We're among fashionistas. Memories indeed. Platform shoes and bell bottoms. That was a little while ago.

I have my mother's circa 1978 Janome.
