@Northwind - that lake view with the raft reminds me SO much of our cottage lake - it was bigger, but your photo still invokes that sense of peace and wonder that surrounded us there.

Brilliant sunshine here today - and still NO snow!! Thanks for the coffee Red - always a delight to sample your daily brew.

Indeed. Very cottage country.

I use a New Tab setting in the Edge browser that presents a picture of the day type thing. There was one recently that I was sure would be someplace like Muskoka. Then I clicked the link to find out more and found it is in Slovenia, so Eastern Europe.

This park has two colliery dams (I think). Nanaimo was a coal mining town so there are lots of colliery places. This really is a peaceful park and a great escape in the city.

This is a quote from the park's website info:

"Colliery Dams are a rare link with Nanaimo’s industrial heritage. Built in 1910-11 by the Western Fuel Company to supply water for coal washing and for use by miners, mules and horses in the mines, the water system quickly developed an important secondary use. Homes near the pipeline were allowed to tap the line for domestic uses and eventually this water was carried to most of the homes in South Harewood."

I had a beautiful walk over the local golf course. Very few people there, some kids were sledding, three or four were snowshoeing. The landscape of the course makes it a nice 40 minute walk. Lots of tracks from animals looking for the thinner covered spaces under trees for food. Thankful, that the owner allows that use, despite potentially having to fix up some spots each year worn out by sledding.

Interesting how we think our landscapes are so unique. I went on a dinner cruise out of Stockholm years ago - and could have sworn I was on Lake Muskoka! Lots of rocky shores, mixed forests, just beautiful!

One place I want to see more of is Scandinavia. We've been to Sweden and Denmark, but only urban areas (and Legoland :giggle: ).

My last set of blood work is looking pretty good. Hard to know what's the effect of the steroid shot with some of it though, and it's not really the full set of stuff, mostly liver stuff with CBC. My guess is I'm borderline anemic if not completely anemic without having iron/B12 done. Saw a huge drop in the one test that signalled the liver issues- I don't know if the shot would affect that, will ask at an appointment next week although I don't know how much I can trust my doctor's knowledge on that.

Found my answer, if anything it should have made it worse, not better, although the info I found is for long term use.

ALT or something else? My ALT was high in 2019 but came down last year without really doing much. Saw the liver specialist in Fall of 2019 and by the time I saw him again last Spring, he was kind of "meh, come back in three years". And my next ALT was lower still.

Close, ALP. My hepatologist told me it will never be normal again, I hope to show him wrong :)

Good morning, all! From blood tests and landscapes (that may resemble each other, but still have each their own beauty and splendour) to the day and week ahead, as someone in Wonderland pointed out, 'The time has come to speak of many things.' Let us do so, with tea cups and coffee mugs on hand.

Talk about crap timing. I may have shingles and I am not fully set up with my new family doc yet (old one retired Jan. 1). I just picked up the last batch of paperwork on Thursday. Anyhow, the symptoms fit but it's a fairly small area and not many blisters so hopefully a mild dose, if that's even what it is. It has been sore for a couple days and I didn't even consider shingles because I have so many bloody skin irritations anymore. The idea just popped into my head this morning and I did some research on Mayo (my preferred medical site) to see if it was even a possible option. Apparently, there's not much they can do other than try anti-virals, which may shorten it and reduce risk of lasting complications. Beyond that, it's just relieving symptoms until it subsides.

Good morning from snowy thornbury. We have about two feet of snow in the ground. It is I’ve the tops of my boots to walk. Sadly our last barn clean out, we gave away our snowshoes. Now that we winter in Florida. Lol

hoping that all blood work returns to normal. It’s always a worry as things creep out of “normal”

ChemGal do you modify your diet to help with liver function? We do a lot of modifications to help hubby’s kidney function. Seems to be holding him stable

I would call in about some anti virals. take some good photos and send them along. It’s pretty specific looking shingles. not that it matters now but avoid people, particularity those who haven’t had chicken pox. Has Mrs M? Might not have been a common childhood disease where she grew up

I think that's the one Ontario makes us pay for. My doctor decided just to have me go straight to the liver guy without doing that. Ultrasound showed some fatty infiltration but nothing worse.

Yeah, I'm going to call on Monday and see if he can see me when I take the paperwork in. Mrs M's not sure if she had it, but some in her family definitely did because they've had shingles so it was definitely a thing over there. Given when she grew up there, her childhood records aren't the greatest.

If I recall correctly, the shingles anti-virals are best taken very early in the course of the infection - so I would hasten to get dx and tx if possible. Does your GP's office have a walk-in clinic open today? Some practices do.
Good reminder to consider getting the vaccine if one is old enough. Shingles can leave really nasty long-lingering nerve pain in some cases.

Murphy's law? The snow has looked pretty amazing up your way this year - so sad for all the ski clubs & operators who must remain closed - heartbreaking for them I'm sure.

I've just taken my first batch of sourdough bagels out of the oven - here's a nice basketful, and some yummy cream cheese ... enjoy with your coffee!

Don't wait. Go to an after hours clinic. Getting the anti-virals into you can pretty well stop it in its tracks, but the earlier the better. Signed, the voice of experience...

I cut back significantly on alcohol, but even with that the hepatologist wasn't too concerned. No other diet changes, but I have been losing weight from just overall eating less. I highly suspect the tumours themselves were responsible for an appetite increase, so there's a bit of a positive feedback aspect - tumours shrink a bit, I lose weight which may help tumours shrink more.
There isn't really a diet recommended for this type of thing, it's the tumours that are responsible for the damage.
