My friend called telling me that her 24 yr old son is missing. He went for a walk last night and didn’t come back. Hoping that he just stayed over at someones house. He is bipolar and self medicates with alcohol. His birthday is tomorrow. It is only 5-6 degrees at night here. Search and Rescue is involved.
I am hoping to not wake up to terrible news.

Praying alomg with you for a good outcome.Your friend must be very scared.

@KayTheCurler Sorry for the loss of your friend, and also that I have sort of overlooked the posts here, and missed it until now. Condolences, and hopes that in the sadness you may also find some comfort and joy in happy memories.

@Mrs.Anteater Hopes for your friend's son's safe return. This is not the way one would want to mark his birthday.

What Bette said. Sending prayers of comfort for his family, energy for persistence and thoroughness of the search team. Sigh.

Oh dear! Oh dear! Mrs. anteater. Thinking about the young man and his family. Praying as I wait for further news from you.

I hope your friend has more info about her son @Mrs.Anteater Bi-polar is such a terrible illness and hard to get sorted out. The good news it is treatable. I hope your friend's son is found and able to get help.

My 24 year old nephew has been diagnosed as well. His mother let us know last night that he had taken an overdose yesterday and that she had called 911. Fortunately, he was admitted to the hospital this morning and will be connected to supports. This isn't his first encounter with the system. Hopefully they will take it more seriously now.

When they were trying to get him help awhile ago, no one was taking it seriously. She took him to the family doctor and left him alone in the waiting area while she talked to the doctor. The receptionist came in quickly to demand something be done. It was like leaving a toddler hepped up on candy in the waiting area. The doctor became a good advocate from that point on. :)

Good luck to your friend MrsA.

Good to hear good news Mrs Anteater - though, no doubt, the situation isn't 'fixed'.
No, not fixed. Not sure if I will ever know. He told his brother he was on a “ spiritual quest”. Not sure if that was just an excuse or if there is a mental health delusion behind it. This family is usually keeping things private, so I will stay out of it, too. Lets hope he had some “ spiritual insights”.

Good morning! Stormy start to the day here, seems like a good morning for warm beverages. Help yourself.

Or maybe he actually was on a spiritual quest. I have a friend who goes on a fast in the woods every year - for about 35+ years now - vision quest, however with support and guidance from an indigenous elder.

I would hope that your friend would tell his family and friends that he cannot be reached and will not return home at night so they don’t send Search and Rescue and the RCMP.

Yes of course - but he's almost 70, not in his 20s. He's also supported by an indigenous elder when he goes - he is checked on daily, as he is there for numerous days, fasting. I do know from my own experience of kids not returning home how difficult such a time is. I'm glad this young man emerged & is safe.

I don't know where to post this -and it doesn't merit a thread of its own - so bear with me for posting here.........
Our local library has the dvds of the Murdock Mysteries -the first seven series anyway.
I'm quite addicted -I love the characters, the period and the wit.
An added bonus is watching and locating Toronto scenes - especially the University!

I didn't realise that Dr. Ogden was played by an Australian until I watched the added features.
To my ears I couldn't tell she wasn't Canadian - my question is, could you Canadians tell?
